I think it is hard being stuck between such stellar titles.

IMO FF V is more of the hardcore RPGers game for it's gameplay is MUCH deeper than either IV or VI.

Casual gamers may not be able to look past it's shortcomings to see this though and it is a shame.

Final Fantasy V? Weak?
What are you on about man!
The graphics nor sound of that game cannot and shouldn't be judged because it's old but that doesn't affect the storyline at all. Galuf is like one of the coolest guy even in Final Fantasy history. I love the battle when Galuf fights X-Death using the Elder Tree Branch, so he cannot die. Galuf has like 600 HP by then, will my Galuf did. X-Death cast Bolt3, 3000 Damage and Galuf is still standing.

Final Fantasy V is great game, I still play it to this day. It's foolish to doubt, misjudge or abuse that game.

In my eyes, the weakest of the series was Final Fantasy II. Absolute garbage.

I thought it was really good and very underrated. It had so many good classes to choose out of..there's no way it was the weakest.

One thing FFV was unique for was the Job Sytems and the very ahrd bosses at the end of the game

Either way this game cannot possibly be the weakest of the series.

Nope, definitely not. Not with gameplay like it had. DEFINITELY not the weakest in the series if you ask me

FFV was the first 2D FF game that I ever actually felt like finishing (had yet to play FFVI)

The whole concept of changing jobs was what got me into the fighting. And I loved the story too.

The job changing concept was even used again in FFXI.

While I don't think it's the weakest, i think it had a lot of untapped potential. I think because of the whole job thing, we saw an extreme lack of character development for one, the story was ok though pretty cliche, and the sound and graphics were in some respects a DOWNGRADE from final fantasy IV.

I think if they had spent more work on those areas in FF V, it could have been one of the best if not the best in the series.

Indeed, I agree with Leo, it had potential, but the really dry story and lack of characters was a real drawback... this is actually the only SNES FF I havent finished, and its only because the story bored me to tears... much like X-2, aka one of the lamest games in my eyes. FFII was also quite weak and I havent finished it as well. *shrugs* bottom line is that FFV isnt the worse game in the series, but I cant say its one of the best either, gets a 5/10 FF ranking, 4/10 overall RPG ranking (in my eyes)
*edit* typos, bleh

This is only one of the 2D FF games that has unique jobs and skills. I would say that this is one of the best Final Fantasy games, and the background graphics and sounds were improved in the GBA.

I'm also really bored in FF5 at the moment. Simply cos I know exactly what's going to happen after playing 3 and 4...the last crystal will suffer some terrible misfortune, the great evil will have to be released and they will have to journey into a great astral dimension to defeat him in about 50 forms. I was so relieved when Square ditched the crystal storyline after 5. It just got too predictable, despite being the trademark of the series.
