Question Maybe its just me..

Or is FF5 the only Old School FF to have an actual effective set of Defensive spells in its list(s)? like Protes and Shell for example.. you can totally notice that the attacks (towards you) do excatly/very close to 50% damage to what it is supposed to.. heh, whilst in FF1, 2, 3, 4, 6 it didnt really do anything extremely noticeable eh? and the best thing about it, both of the spells are cheap as hell to cast.. hehe, but on the side of that, how about the defense factor? if you had a good set of armour, the enemy could do next to no damage against you.. and vice versa (kinda) some of the monsters that had high defense, you could point them out straight away.. because normally you could be dealing out about 2000 Damage, when it only does 1300 or so for this one guy.. heh.

Anybody else taken note of these aswell?

I noticed this Dawezy. I find little use for protective spells in FFIV, VI, and I. Maybe it is due to the Job System? Because in games like FFVI, I never waited to even learn spells like Protect and such. But FFV spells do help alot more than even new school games.

Yeh I noticed this, it's especially true with Haste. Like Uno Nut, I couldn't be bothered to wait to learn or buy defensive spells ('cept for haste, I love haste ^^; ) in the other FFs. I FFV tho, the magic is just pure brilliant, which is why I love the game so much.

I think they made that so that the classes would be more balanced in a way....but I liked that fact....although it won't help if you are in battles like against Shinyruu or what ever his name was.......

I hardly ever use shell. The healing magic bounces off. Protect, yeah, that is a skill i use very often. Mainly for those really hard bosses. Damn you X-Death!!!! As for the Magic cost, i dont think that in the entire game, that ANY of the magic skills were too expensive. Theyre actually one hell of a bargan.

I noticed that as well. It's about friggin time to. I swear in some of those games you wonder why you're even casting the spell because of the minimal amount of defense it's actually benefiting you. They actually did it right for this game and I think FF VII and beyond you can tell you're being protected as well. There were a few titles that made you wonder what the hell if anything was actually happening.
