| | Liquid Flame is one of those tough/nasty/annoying bosses that are harder than anything up to the point in the game where you fight them. Then again, if you know what you're doing, he shouldn't be too hard. First thing to do is learn about his three forms. Human form: Weak to Ice, uses the Flame attack which roasts your entire party for a pretty sizable amount of damage. Keep your party at high HP, because you'll see this attack a lot. Casting Cure2 on your party immediately after getting hit with it is a good idea. Whirlwind Form: This is the form you want to see the most. It's still weak to Ice, and it has NO offensive attacks. All it can do is pull your party into the front row with Magnet (big deal, Flame and Fire2 hurt equally much no matter where you're standing) and cast Fire2 on itself to heal. This looks bad, but since you should be able to do more damage each round than it can heal for, this shouldn't bother you too much. I believe that this form is immune to physical attacks. Hand Form: This form SUCKS! For you. It sometimes does basic attacks that hurt about as much as Flame (but only to one character) and it sometimes casts Fire2 at one of your characters. Don't try to stay at high enough HP to survive it - some weaker jobs can't live through that, even at full HP. Instead, have one character use a Phoenix Down and then another character use a Hi-Potion or cast Cure2 ON THAT CHARACTER (not split). Oh, and did I mention that this form is IMMUNE to Ice? There goes your strongest form of attack. So, what's a group of Warriors of the Crystal to do? Well, for starts I recommend using the following party: 1) 2) Two characters who are going to pummel this guy with Ice attacks when he's not in Hand Form. Black Mages work well. Summoners too, if you have Shiva. Equipping them with Ice Rods ups the damage by a third. 3) A physical attacker. This character is primarily there to counter the Hand. Against other forms, he still causes damage but less of it than your other characters will. If you need a character to use healing items, he's a good candidate. High HP is a definate plus, as it means he'll have to be healed less often. Knights, Monks, and Thieves make good choices here. Beserkers make poor ones as they can't use items. MagicKnights (Sorcerors in Anthologies) work but ONLY if you don't use Ice2Sword, because that takes away your weapon against the Hand. 4) A healer. White Mage is the ONLY choice here. In fact, every FF5 party NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS a White Mage, so if you don't have one yet make one now. Unlike other Job/Ability games in which there are other acceptable healing classes (Chemist/Alchemist/whatever), White Mages are the only efficient healers in 5. Your WM should cast Cure2 on the party every time you get hit with Flame and cast Cure2 or Raise (with another character supplying Phoenix Down or Hi-Potion, respectively) whenever a character gets taken down by Fire2. Full Time Healing duty, no exceptions. Your White Mage should never be the same character as your Black Mage - trust me, I've tried this, it sucks. A few fanal comments: Slow works wonders on LiquidFlame, as well as most other bosses in the game. Red Mages make good candidates for character #3 here, but they suck in general, so it's up to you whether you want to use one or not. Also, if you want a quick and dirty way to take this guy down, break a couple Ice Rods at him when he's not in Hand Form. If you don't know how to do that, equip an Ice Rod on a character, then when that character's turn comes up select Item, press up, and double click on the Ice Rod. | ||||||||

| | This is a really general question, I was just wondering where the best place to level up is. I've found that the n-zone gives me no exp. but plenty of AP, but I want to find a place that gives good exp. Cheers.

| | Hmm... if you get a lot of AP, then you shouldn't really need Exp because mastered jobs affect your stats more than level does. That said, you could try the Phoenix Tower - as I remember (I may be incorrect) the random battles there hand out lots of experience. If you're trying to level up to beat Omega, or simply trying to get to Level 99 (shame on you for turbolevelling!) then that should work. If you're just looking to bolster your stats a bit to give yourself an edge in the N-Zone, try mastering jobs instead... If you need Vigor (attack power), Monk is the best class to master, followed by Knight and Berserker. If you need Speed, Thief owns all, but Ninja, MagicKnight/Sorceror, and Hunter/Archer are all good options. For Stamina (defense), Monk is again the best choice, with Berserker, Knight, and Samurai as runners up. And lastly, MagicPower can be increased by mastering Summoner or Black Mage. The other caster jobs are all way behind those two. Note that Blue Mage and Geomancer are almost as good as White Mage and Time Mage, while Red Mage is almost worthless unless you need X-Magic. Master whatever class gives you the bonus you like, then switch to Mime or Traveller/Bare/whatever Anthologies calls it and you'll keep the bonus you acquired when you mastered it. Note that multiple bonuses don't stack, so if you've mastered something like Thief, mastering Ninja won't get you anything else. Sorry if I've given you way more information than you wanted. The short answer is to go to the Phoenix Tower if you want levels, but build AP in the N-Zone if you're more concerned with stats. Of course, if you've already mastered Monk, Thief, and Summoner and aren't satisfied, then I guess you'll have to go get more Exp anyway... but whatever. | ||||||||

| The Old Skool Warrior | Shortly after being tossed in jail at Karnak... blah blah blah. Do everything as usual. Before leaving, however, be sure to check out the shops. With the Fire Crystal now gone, prices are through the roof, but if you have the funds you should equip yourself. Plumed Hats are now added for the first time. Head to the magic shop. NEW SPELLS! Cure2, Raise, Muddle, Fire2, Bolt2, Ice2, and Poison. Buy them. All of them. Seriously. There's new time magic too, but nothing special. With up-to-date equipment and the new array of spells, you can either head over to Walz and defeat Shiva, or just progress to the Fire-Powered Ship. My guess is that you'd be making your way over to Walz. Best of luck to you. | ||||||||

n/a | Uh, yeah, I have a quick question. I'm in uh...I can't remember what it's called. The forest that Exdeath burns down, just before Galuf dies. But I can't beat the 4 spirit guys. Can anyone tell me a good method to beat them? I tried 'float' on the party, followed by Titan to kill all but the Earth guy, but it didn't work well. | ||||||||

| | Yeah, those guys are nasty. I think that boss took me down many many times my first pass through the game. The first thing to do is know your enemy (which you seem to already do). Then start figuring out how to deal with each of them individually. Finally, try to bring all of that together. Wind Seal: Absorbs Wind, uses basic attacks until it's below a certain HP, then starts using Aero 3 on your party. Ways to deal with it: I don't know if anything you have at this point reduces Wind damage... wind is a rather obscure element after all. However, you probably shouldn't have to worry. Aero 3 is the weakest of the four special attacks you have to deal with for this battle; if you have a White Mage sitting around casting Cure 3 every turn, you should be fine. Also, if you have a spare turn or two to cast Wall on your characters, Aero 3 can even be reflected. Sure it'll heal the Wind Seal, but it'll hurt the rest of them. (For what it's worth, this is your first chance to learn Aero 3 on your Blue Mage.) Water Seal: Absorbs Water, uses basic attacks until it's below a certain HP, then starts casting Aqua Breath on your party. Ways to deal with it: Aqua breath blows. You can absorb it with a Coral Ring (which, unless you shelled out big bucks when you had the chance to buy them earlier on, you won't have) and that's about it. No reflect, no nothing. Cure 3 is your friend. Fire Seal: Absorbs Fire, uses basic attacks until it's below a certain HP, then starts blasting your party with Fire3. Ways to deal with it: Fire can be absorbed with either a flame shield (not sure if you have those yet) or a flame ring (if you opened all the chests in the Barrier Tower, you should have fought a few red dragons. The rare steal off those guys is a Flame Ring). However, those items are both relatively hard to find. Short of that, you can either try to reflect it (as I said above, this heals the Fire Seal, but hurts the rest) or you can just rely on Cure 3 a lot. Sensing a pattern yet? By the way, if you have the Bone Mail, I recommend you use it for practically every boss battle in the game... EXCEPT THIS ONE! A single Fire 3 will take out your Bone Mailed character (Bone Mail gives you a weakness against Fire) and prevent you from reviving him/her. Earth Seal: Absorbs Earth, uses basic attacks until it's below a certain HP, then starts casting Earth Shaker every round. Ways to deal with it: Float. 'nuff said. Cast it once on your party before your reduce this guy to critical HP, and on the off chance that one of your characters bites it before you kill this seal, either remember to reinstate float as soon as you revive him, or else leave him down until this seal is dispatched. So, that's how to handle each individual seal. Now what are you going to do overall? Well, remember that each seal goes into overdrive only when it's at low HP; if you leave a seal alone, all it will do is just use physical attacks. This means that you should focus on one seal at a time, and NOT use multi-target attacks (if you do, you'll wind up reducing two or three of them to low HP at once, and this means you'll have to deal with two of the afforementioned attacks at the same time, which you don't want to see). So, I recommend you start by going after the Earth Seal, because it's the easiest one to get rid of. Begin by casting Float on your party. Then just sit there attacking him and having your White Mage cast Cure 3 on the party every chance he gets (the seals' physical attacks may not be quite as bad as their elemental ones, but they still hurt). Once he starts casting Earth Shaker, laugh maniacially as his attacks do NOTHING to you! Next! For the second guy, you're going to be eating one elemental attack from the low HP seal and two normal attacks from the other seals at the same time, so you want to go after the seal with the weakest elemental attack. This means targetting the wind seal. Hit him until he starts casting Aero 3. If you have a Blue Mage, make sure he gets hit with it; then, go all out and try to kill the seal before it gets another turn to cast Aero 3 again. Throw is your friend. You can probably also get away with using GP Toss once without necessarily putting either of the other seals into their critical HP mode. After that, go ahead and remove the other two in any order. Like the above seal, the trick is to make sure that once they get to critical HP and start attacking with their elemental attack, you kill them as soon as possible. Again, GP Toss is handy, but make sure you don't inadvertantly bring the other seal down to critical HP while you're trying to kill one of them. Actually, GP Toss will trivialize most boss battles in the game... you don't wanna use it for random battles or else you'll run out of GP quickly, but bosses fall really quickly to that attack. However, that is the weenie way out, so if you want to be a real man/woman, don't use that move, or at least not in excess. One last word: Golem ROCKS!!! And this battle is no exception; if you have a summoner who can call him, do so at the beginning of the battle and watch as the non-critical-HP seals can no longer do anything to you. Slow 2 is also handy... it will often miss at least one of the seals, but the seals are vulnerable to slow (as are most bosses in the game). Good luck! | ||||||||

| | Well i just decided to finally finish playing V since i started playing it uhhh.awhile back whenever Anthologies was first released. Right now i just finished Fork Tower, so i am getting close to the end but due to the fact that i've been away from the game so long i have a few questions 1.) Is mirage town the best place for armor/weapons/items? 2.) Any recomended level/strategy for beating Odin and Bahamut? Odin especially i just can't get him done with quick enough. I might just have to do some more leveling up 3.) My party is at lv. 35 right now, do you think I should be doin a lot more leveling up before i get to the end of the game?

159 | To Anubis: Try walking in the right sides of the cavern and a pit should appear...and fall into it. Now, you should go into the cave with the switch and press it. the barrier should disappear. That should do it. *Note: Don't forget to get the Bone mail in the pile of bones!!!!
