In FFT the war of the lions Every time I try to steal from Elmdore It say 0% chance of success

is there any way around this because I really want to steal the masamune or should I just finish the battle quickley and not bother trying to steal from him

I can't speak for War of the Lions, but in the original Tactics, here's what I had to go through to get all the Genji gear stolen from Elmdor. I had to look up Elmdor's sign, which I think was Gemini, and figure out the "best affinity" between him and someone else in my party, to raise the chance of steal. I can't remember what the sign is, but I remember it had to be a female character.

I started a new game several times until it gave me a female character with that zodiac sign as one of the four "other" characters you start with. I made sure she was trained in every "fast" class and had mastered thief before fighting Elmdor. I had Ramza "Yell"ing at her many times to increase her speed. Even then, the battle lasted for a good hour or two, because the chances of steal were only 15-20% higher I think, but I definitely got ALL of Elmdor's equipment by the time he croaked. It was well worth doing.

In the PSP game, they fixed it so you could not steal from Elmdor. You however can acquire the Masamune and Genji gear through a sidequest.

you CAN'T steal his masamune in war of the lions he has safeguard to prevent it
