Final Fantasy Tactics Remake for DS Protest

Who else believes S-E should make a FFT remake for the DS? They owe us for the endless menus and less than acceptable translation of the original FFT.
The touchscreen could be used for all those menus, or for movement along the grid-battlefield. They could add some new classes... like those assassins XD
I'd buy a portable remake of FFT. I'm sure most fans of the original would. SO why hasn't S-E done a quick port, added a few things, fixed some errors, and pleased us FFT fans? It's because of the FF7 spin-offs.
Down with FF7!

-Edit- Damnit, too late to post a poll with this thread. Oh well, give your thoughts below then.

I'm not quite sure, but...I recall that FFT:A was originally a port of FFT for the GBA. All of a sudden, they changed the idea, and made a new game. Any reason why?

The main reason, IMO, is that no one was willing to pay 40 or so bucks to play the same game again, regardless of being portable, or fixing the translation. Wanna replay? Fine, get the original. Everybody must have laughed or protested because of the chopped-up translation, but face it: the PSX version is an awesome game. So, I guess that, for a good while, Squeenix won't touch the FFT franchise, instead giving it a good rest. See...the development team that made FFT, FFT:A and Vagrant Story also made recently FFXII, so these guys are dead tired, and wouldn't have time for making another game. So, maybe a month or two of rest, and Squeenix will ask them to cooperate on another game.

I would ask for yet another FFT game. Brand new. But, these guys deserve a rest, for God's sake. So, let them rest a good time, have some vacations, have some family time, and then ask for a game.

I wouldn't, however, object to a NEW Tactics title on the DS. That's something I would support wholly. I love the DS, and there are a lot of amazing games for it. Having a new game which fully supports menu use through the touchpad would be nice... as would the idea of movement and action selection via the touchpad.

To my knowledge, that's what they're doing with FFIII.

In any case... as far as a remake of FFT, I think it's far too early. The game is way too amazing to be remade for something small like the Nintendo DS. But a new title would be awesome.

You both bring up good points. I would love a new FFT game as well, but I'd prefer it to NOT have a direct connection to any of the established games. It would, in all probability, ruin the story. FFT was about the Lucavi, FFXII noone knows where it fits into the timeline yet, and FFTA doesn't officially happen in the FFT universe. It was a fantasy world modeled after *supposedly* FFXII's Ivalice. Mewt created the world with a game called 'Final Fantasy' in mind. Perhaps it was XII. Dunno. We'll wait and see

FFT should be remade to DS, well Id be happy with a port. The reason I bring this up is cause unfortatly FFT only got released for NTSC Systems, people who have PAL unfortuatly have to import it. I suppose I could get the Japanese version but I wouldn't understand it. I seriously want to play this, I have a rom of Tactics advance but I am going to get a DS soon probably with FFT:A and FFIII when it comes out. I would be sooo happy if they did.

I'd love it to be made and released for the DS, I don't want to import the original but really want to play it.

Yes, I'd also be in favor of a cleaned-up port of this game being made for... well, heck, any system, even PS1 if anybody still made games for that (no, nobody does). The one objection I have is the concept that they "owe" it to us. Sure, FFT had cruddy translation. Sure, they left some features out of the English release. Sure, they didn't have time to finish certain features (it seems fairly obvious that Arc Knight and Arc Witch were intended to get a bit more attention than they did). But as disappointing as all that is, you still paid them forty bucks and they gave you a game.

If you feel that the game wasn't worth what you paid, then take this as a lesson about games made by Square-Enix. Maybe you ought to think a bit harder before blowing more money on FF12 or whatever the next Square-Enix game you buy is. If enough people stop buying their games, they might realize that releasing unfinished games is unprofitable and work a bit harder toward putting polish on their games.

If you feel that the game was worth $40, then be thankful to Square-Enix for making it. You got a fun game, they got their money, both sides win. Either way, the transaction is finished, and there's no concept of one side "owing" the other anything.

Now, that being said, I'd love to see an FFT remake, especially if they went through and fixed some of the flaws. Translation would be nice, but if you've been reading any of my posts around this forum you'll know that gameplay bugs are what really get my goat. I've put my gripes in enough other threads that they don't need to be stated here as well... if you want to see a few things I'd like fixed, check out this thead on Sequel to FFT. Make sure you have plenty of time, because when I post, I tend to write a lot. :-p

Oh, and for a game that really needs a cleaned-up rerelease, take a look at Xenogears... but let's not discuss that here.

S-E "Owing" us was an attempt at sarcasm. Alas, the tone of which something is said is not carried into its representative text.

And, as usual, awall has made a magnificent post.

Before people keep saying "if you want the original, go buy the original"....just so you know, the original was never released in Australia. We were stuck with the inferior FFTA and missed out on the whole scenario of FFT.....**sob**......

Definately a FFT DS is needed! Mabye not the same story just to keep the americans happy, but at least try and keep it the same interface and style as FFT for us Aussies....not like FFTA....that just sucked the way they did the whole Race thing!!!!! I so prefer the job ascension style.

I'd love a port of this game to the DS. I have always loved the original for the PSX and I would buy the ported version, with all the fixed translations and other tweaks to improve.

Also, this game is getting pretty old now right? They even stopped making the PSX correct? So this would be perfect for new gamers. We have a whole new generation coming out that doesn't have a PSX or if they do, don't have the older games, and just have the PS2. Putting it on the DS would be a perfect solution. DS was is perfect for any stratagy game.

It would be really cool to have it on the DS. New characters, better graphics, and somewhat of a similar storyline to the original FFT wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

I'd love it on the DS, probably because that's the only new portable I have...

If anything the FF VII spinoff's would encourage SE to remake because it proved that
