FFTA - Laws, unfair or what!
Is it just me or does anyone else out there think the law system in FFTA is a joke?
I don't mind the laws themselves, it's quite a good game dynamic. It's just the way the laws are "enforced" by the judges that bothers me. Example: In a recent battle I had killed off all my opponents except for a gunner moogle who kept running away and shooting at me. One of the laws in effect during that battle was "no projectiles" so every time this moogle fired at me he got a yellow card. By the end of the battle (which i deliberately dragged out just to see what would happen) this gunner moogle had racked up 18 yellow cards! 18!!! In contrast if any of my party break a law twice it's off to jail for them and if the central character breaks any law even once it's game over!! How biased can you get?! Thoughts anyone? |

LoL... that's never happened to me. Whenever
a computer opponent got 2 yellowcards, they also received a red card and went straight to jail. The only time they didn't go to jail was when it was a notorious enemy. I don't know why that moogle didn't go to jail. :/

Yeah I just got the game and I can't stand some of the laws that's enforced like for example: there's a law that bands swords! I mean come on! Swords!? That's ridiculous.

get around! There are plenty of other weapons, and there is magic too. One of the ridiculous laws is a ban on targeting animals when all you are fighting are animals... Now THAT is annoying.

Ok, This game sucked, the "Laws" were stupid, and you got cards that cancels the "law", which made it more pointless, and some laws didn't make no sense, like what weapons did the concider, like to me a sword is a sword... theres no special swords, but not in this game, there are like 2 swords for one law, and if you use one of those swords BYE BYE!

Hey guys comeon now
![]() There's nothing wrong with a little challenge! I mean if you DON'T like the law that is in place did you know you can always change it? As you move on the map, the laws for each area changes. Keep moving until it reaches the set of laws you desire to play with and VIOLA!!! It becomes easier again! That's what you wanted rite?

I think the first example of laws is what sets the tone for the rest of the game. You know, where the Baanga is critically wounded, and might even die if he doesn't tend to his wounds. So he takes a potion, and BAM, he goes to prison for giving himself much-needed medical attention.
It would make more sense if the laws were static for the location. No using fire magic in the Viera treetop village, no using assassination techniques around the palace, etc. |

I think the laws are there to encourage a balanced team, so people dont just level up bangaas or humans. But as people have already said they are ridicously easy to get around - so yeah they're pretty much pointless( except for a couple of side missions)

At the beginning of the game, if you do all the reading in the pub there's one little blurb that says something to the order of, "Some enemies have special protection that keeps them from ever getting red cards. They're the ones who have special ribbons. Lucky bastards." For the longest time, I thought that this referred to the accessory "ribbon" - that is, in addition to preventing abnormal status, it also kept you from going to jail. But alas, this is not the case; rather, these "ribbons" are the the little markers that the game uses to distinguish the enemy leader. Normal enemies will get thrown out of the battle if they get a red card, but leaders can never get evicted, no matter how many times they foul. This is necessary for several reasons. First, it would be too easy to win boss battles if you could simply berserk the boss or confuse him or whatever and cause him to get a red card. They could fix this by making bosses immune to all statuses that could affect their actions, but that would make Berserk more useless than it already is. Secondly, it would allow you to trivialize totema battles and the like by waiting for a day when the totema's killer attack was outlawed (i.e. wait for Thunder to be banned before taking on Mateus) and then fighting. Finally, it just wouldn't make plot sense if a boss got tossed out of the battle so you never got to see the end-of-battle cutscene. Whatever, the laws are more of a joke than anything else anyway. Good idea, poor execution. |

The main problem with laws are the punishments, sometimes I save a game mid battle, come back to it, forget to check the laws and BAM, i'm sent to prison.
The worst thing is that sometimes the punishments are to down stats. I absolutely detest that.

It's really annoying when the punishment has ti do with lowering your status. Whenever this happens to me I turn my GBA of. The whole thing about laws is stupid I think. Can't you just use all your abilities in battles whenever you want. Anyway I haven't got punished for a really long time. I always check the laws. I do that without even thinking of it. I think I've got used to that. Yet, I think it would be much more better without laws at all. At least, I have many law and anti-law cards that really help me most of the times.
