Alright, well tbh i've only beaten through disc 1 of ff9. i was playing it on the computer but when i entered this one town the screen would just go black so i gave up on that and started up ff7 which i'm almost done with.

anyways, even though i won't be playing ff9 for a while or at least until i get the PSone version, i just wanna make sure i've been pronouncing the names of the characters correctly. or at least i'd like to hear how you pronounce their names.

so i call
zidane - Zeh Dane
Garnet - Gar net (like basketball net)
Steiner - Stay Nerd (or just rusty)
Vivi - Vee Vee
Feyra - Fay Rah

and those are the only characters i've played with so far, besides those guys from zidane's tantalus or w/e it's called. i forget sry

Zidane's name is pronounced how it is spelled. Zi-dane.

Steiner is pronounced Stine-er

and her name is Freya, pronounced how it is spelled.

Garnet is like the actual stone, Gar nit (soft e that kinda sounds like an i)

Freya is Frey-a

ViVi is VeeVee
Eiko is actually one I don't know, Eek-o? Eek-i-o? Echo? E-I-ko? E-kio? Vowels should never be over 75% of a word...
Amarant is one I sometimes mispronounce I sometimes say "Arm-ar-ant" or "Arma-rant" I'm not 100% sure how to really pronounce it probably "Am-ar-ant"

I thought Amarant was pronounced "Am-ar-rant",but maybe that's just me.

I also thought Zidane orginally was like the name of the footballer. Took me a while to realize it wasn' though!

Well I mean, I haven't heard an official from the makers saying their real names, I have looked up the names on sites and they give you the way to pronounce it but I don't remember seeing Amarant's at all.

Also I did have a typo on that sorry. Am-arant is how I pronounce it.

First off, its Freya not Feyra and I believe Lunasa got them all pronounced the way they should...though Amarant's name is difficult due to improper translation but I personally pronounce it as Am-a-rant or Am-a-ront...it could probably go either way.

With Zidane, I always thought he was named after France's footballer who's 2 goals won the World Cup against Brazil in 1998. I mean the tournament was held in Japan and Zinedine Zidane was the star man of the World Cup.

It's certainly possible that a reference like that was used in an FF game.
