In FF9 who did you think was better? Eiko or Garnet?

I know both girls did white magic and summons, but I think Eiko is much better at white magic.

Eiko has better magic spells like "holy" and "full life". And her trance allows her to cast double of a magic spell. I found that useful when things were tough. Plus, i ended up using her more as my healer.


Garnet did have better eidolons, but i didnt use them much.

Of course Eiko had better white magic, she was supposed to be the games white mage. Even though she is a summoner, she's too young to be good at it so she has better magic to make up for it.

Where on the other hand, Garnet was not only of age but Ramuh accepted her as a summoner increasing her sumoning powers.

I say Eiko.
She became more useful for me than Garnet down the line.

Garnet may not have had the best white magic but i use her more because she has more summons, standard white magic (all three cures and life) and i liked garnet better as a character.

Eiko was more usefull, but i never used her as a healer. When i did want a healer i used Garnet though. I had Eiko summoning a lot. What i would do is have Eiko, Zidane and two other of my strongest attackers, and when i needed a heal, i would just have the weakest attacker use a healing item. While everyone else was on the attack. This has worked well for me in most of the final fantasy games. In my opinion a healer is a waste of space. The most usefull healer in any FF would probably be Yuna. Cause she could do a lot with her summons when you didnt need her to heal.

Garnet cause she has stronger edilions, and shes nicer and cooler.

Eiko was the better white mage. She had stronger skills faster and they did a lot more than Garnet's.

I liked Eiko better because her White Magic was more powerful and you could make her insanely strong with the Marcus level up glitch.

I would say Garnet even though Eiko had the better White Magic, but I seemed to use Garnet a lot more in the game because she had some very nice Eidelons which made battles much easier and she had the vital White Mage spells you need so she was pretty good and useful.

In terms of just being a White Mage Eiko would probably be better, at least when you get her. Though by the end of the game Garnet is just as capable as a White Mage as Eiko. All party Curaga is about all you really need and Garnet has that. Plus Garnet as ranged attack weapons that make her a little more useful since she can stay in the back row and still deal strong damage.

In terms of the Trance, I found Garnet far more useful, Double White Magic was usually pointless in the face of an All Party Curaga. While a lot of times you might not really know what Garnet's Trance is better, but in boss fights it becomes clear. It saids Eidolon and you really do not know what is so special about it. But the moment you use Eidolon, the Eidolon you summoned is permenantly locked until you summon something else. And every turn, regardless if she take a turn the Eidolon attacks.

So in the case of fighting Necron, I always want Garnet ready to go Trance, and I just summon Bahamut once. Then she does nothing for as long as possible. Auto-Summon Bahamut is very nice, since it is free summoning and attacks regularly. That is why she is a better White Mage, because she has the extra abilities to that make her an overall more useful character than Eiko.

i really like garnet, but eiko has the best white magic, she can cast full-life and she has the holy ability. she also has much more variety then garnet on the white magic list.

All of my characters have abilities like auto-life and auto-regen equipped so I really didn't need any type of healer, to be honest. Even Trance Kuja didn't really put much of a dent in my party...I could literally sit there and let him cast away and he couldn't kill them off. With the right abilities healers just aren't necessary in most cases.

That said, in terms of white mage abilities, Eiko won out, but in terms of overall usefulness, Garnet took over. Eiko just doesn't have the versatility to do anything else except heal and summon, and her summons were only semi useful when compared to say, Bahamut. I ended up barely using Eiko at all because Garnet already did what Eiko could, and more besides.

Eiko, her white magic is above summoning in her battle menu, and the opposite for Garnet, thats one indication.
You can get better white magic for Eiko earlier in the game and easier too.
Also I consider Phoenix although he does do attack damage to be a white magey kinda still.
None of Garnets Eidolons are defensive unlike Eiko, half of hers are.

I voted Garnet because of Odin and Bahamut. Eiko does have better spells though.

I also think that Eiko has better spells - however dagger/garnet has better summoning power.

I would have to say Eiko. She has spells Dagger doesn't have like " Full Life" and Holy. Besides that her magic points are alittle higher then dagger's. She has fewer summons but Madeen clearly blows all out of the water.I give Dagger an A for effort, but hands down Eiko is bit better.
