I'm not positive on how this works exactly. Either it was you have to have the hammer in your posession or the weapon Save the Queen. I'll have to go look it up again.
Also, don't post such short posts in a new topic. There is a specific FFIX help topic in which you can post a question in instead of opening a new topic.

No, it's definitely ot do with Cinna's Hammer, the Pumice Piece has other significance... finding the other one and combining them to make the Pumice, which can then summon Ark.

It's Cinna's hammer and Beatrix's "Save the Queen". You get both of these from defeating Hades and making him synthasise these weapons. You fight him in the "underwater" part of Memoria.
As for the differences, with these items, the ending is extended, not different, though in my opinion, the ending is still entirely rubbish. Just my opinion though. The extended part is where Tantalus do a performance of "I want you to be my Canary" before the ending FMV. This whole chunk of scene is missing otherwise.

Hope this helps
To get Cinna's hammer you have to collect the 13 stallazio coins, and take them to the empress (i think its the empress) in Treno. You'll get a reward for each of them, ending with the hammer. |
