personally i liked FFIX a lot, i liked the story the characters and the graphics and gameplay, they did a good job with the game.

most ppl that say they didnt like FFIX are people that just played VII VIII and X, those games have a lot of technology, were as IX went back to the basic final fantasy the way they used to make it. so people didnt like it cause i wanst based in a technologic world like VII or VIII.

Apart from going back to its basic roots, some people find it more childish and more of a kids game than compared to other FF titles. The storyline overall seems like a comedy and is not serious compared to VII or VIII. This game is definitely the underdog of all FF titles if you ask me cuz its a great game and its a shame that its not known as one of the best FF titles in FF history.

It's mainly because, it's wasn't as well advertised and all the people that started their FF addiction at FF7 and 8 were probably disapointed about it's return to a medieval setting. It was definately good in it's own way but it didn't really stand out from the others.

i beleive it to be the whole setting.. the setting sets the tone for everything.. it was a very bland world.. viii had a bland world also though.. and the story just seemed very formulaic, is that a word?.. and there are parts where it seems to get going only to turn around and do a 180 and kill any momentum.. like the beginning of disc three.. the first hour is just walking around alexandria talking to a lot of pointless people.. IMO.. and did you know that ix was originally not intended to hold a final fantasy numeric title?

FF IX is one of the best. I just had to finish it to realize that. I hated it at first, but it just grows on you after time. Maybe it was b/c of the old timey setting, or maybe it was because of that he/she/it thing Quina...I think that's why.

Quina, Quina
don't you touch me
Quina, Quina
you copy cat thief

Yes that makes perfect sense. Thank you and goodnight.

Doesnt this question already kinda exist?

Meh, whatever.

I love FFIX, its easily my favorite FF and I will defend it vigerously and violently if any criticism is made, lol.
I think it has by far the best character personality system, I feel they are all defining and indevidual and have interesting views on their lives throughout the game that add to the plot.
Like you guys have said, the world map is really well made, I particulally like the secret Daguerreo or however you spell it =P. I think that place, when I found it, made my day, just as at the time I had no knowlege of its existance and I found it interesting, a big library as a town.
Also the sub-plots seem to have more depth, for instance the Vivi sub plot has probably the most emotional and in depth sub-plot of most the games I have played (which is quite a few).
In short, I have no idea why it isnt as popular, but if there was anything I could do to help change that, I would.
Perhaps it has somthing to do with it being old, maybe people preffer the new age 3D worlds, futuristic and such. ~shrugs~ their loss.

I have always loved FF9 ever since it came out on PS1. LMO I was always singing the battle/boss music themes and the storyline is geninue and unique. I really don't know why people have a problem with it, FF7 was great and all, and FF8 was..not bad, but I like the classic FF's, and besides FF9 is a mixture of Classic/Modern and has lots of refences to the previous FF titles which is always fun. Learning Blue Magic in FF9 is more easier then other FF's if you ask me, and ff9 is the game to fill your adventurous side.

Exactly. I definitely agree with you. FFIX really has some nice upbeat music and its really different compared to VII and VIII. VII is overrated in my opinion. The thing though is IX was around when Sony launched the PS2, so that kinda killed IX's success probably. And the game's really fun and adventurous like you said.

i think people didn't like ffIX that much 'cause at that time,it was an unexpected "return to the roots",storyline, characters, battle system & other limitations.i liked the game a lot,i didn't like all the charactersw that much,(like steiner) & the fact that if you got the virus status,it was hard to get a vaccine without one of your other party members the virus, from those damn hounds in the final stages of the game.i hadn't played the first ffs,I,II,III & stuff before IX,but i liked it nonetheless.i don't think that the game was that advertised,so it did't hit the crowd that much, they didn't point out it's best qualities.

Do you know what I think I dissagree with most of you guys, I think (this is speaking from my own feelings) that one of the main reasons it didnt fit alot of fans criteria as muchs as VII and VIII is because Zidane wasnt a particulaly good main character, I think Squall and Cloud were great and had a kind of 'cool' hero essence, they always left me loving them even if they could be jerks, where Zidane just kinda irritated me to his full potential.

Though the whole jump back to the classic FF kindof oldy worldy feel may have had a good impact I think a decent character list is integral, and characters such as Quina, Zidane and Eiko made FFIX seem a little half-assed to me.

I believe it is because 9 came out too late and was on the way. It sucks because i like 9 a lot better than 7. 7 is too overrated.

Personally, I think FF IX was great. Corection - FF IX is awesome. I like the characters and they really make me laugh. My cousin and I were talking about it for days after she saw me play. Then again, perhaps it was the graphics that wasn't so good.
