Strategy

The battle with this god of water will make the battle you just had with Asura seem like a day at the beach. Now there's still a beach, but it's hurricane season. Leviatan has two stances, we'll call them open and closed - the difference is in his position, and you'll notice the difference right away. He starts off closed, but opens up right away. This is where he pulls off his potential coup de grāce, Big Wave. It punishes your party for a fair amount of damage. He'll then revert back to his closed stance where he casts OIce2 and slugs you with his normal attack at will. Leviatan has a crazy amount of agility, meaning he can pull off multiple moves before any of your characters can bust out consecutive attacks.
The strategy is simple enough, however. Have Cecil lay into the serpent with his sword attack. Levy's big weakness, obviously being of water element, is lightning. So have Edge cast Blitz for some hefty damage. Edge doesn't have a lot of MP, so when he runs out, don't waste an OEther1; just have him attack with his swords. Rydia will alternate between blasting him with OBolt2 and ORamuh. The combo of Edge's Blitz and Rydia's lightning attacks are quite the potent one-two punch, so keep it coming. Rosa's job is obvious, and that's to make sure everyone is top notch in HP. Keep this going for a dozen turns or so and he'll be no match for you. Take heed that, like his wife, Leviatan has a load of HP, so it might take few times going through the lineup before he goes down.
Quote from here!!!

There you go!

EDIT:

Instead of using Bolt 2, if you have Bolt 3, I would strongly recommend using that.

Ribbon: [03-09-2009] Wear this, and it will always protect you! Just don't get too carried away with it, and look after it! Have fun! :) - Unknown Entity Round Shield: [05-03-2009] I thought you could use a replacement for that weak Bronze Shield. So use this shield and really fear almost no attacks! - Ralz Mythril Sword: [06-19-2009] Take this shiny sword and....oooo....shiny....no...no take it :) - Flaming Ragnarok Linen Cuirass: [06-23-2009] If the last one was payment, this is a gift. And it is nice and cozy on teh inside.......you might want to wash it before you wear it.... - Flaming Ragnarok Ether: [06-29-2009] It may not be as good as creme, but it's the thought that counts! ^^ Now you'll have to love me. XD - SilkAngel

All I did to beat Leviathan was have Rydia keep shocking him with Thundaga. My other characters just healed or Attack. Just make sure Rydia stays alive. If Palom/Porom(forgot which one) knows Thundaga, too, use him, it'll help. Edge isn't a bad choice either, just have him use Blitz. Hope I helped!!

BTW, level 50 is really high enough! I was at level 35-40!

Hehe, yeah. Level 50 is major overkill for this fight but some of Leviathan's attacks can shred your HP (note bolded) up regardless of your level, here is a short and sweet summary from my site that I may suggest.

~ Leviathan uses Big Wave frequently, hits all members for 1/4 of their Max HP. Cure3 or Cure4 on all should be cast ASAP after this attack.
~ Leviathan casts Ice2 on one character, can be more or less damage in comparison to his main attack. He casts this multiple times so keep an eye on everyone's HP.
~ Use Bacchus (or have Rosa cast Bersk) on both Cecil and Edge, the battle will be shortened by quite a degree.. 2 reasons. -> You dont have to give them commands every turn, and they attack much faster, automatically, and for higher damage then they normally do. ^.^
~ Summon nothing but Ramuh, if you summon anything else I should slap you like a red haired stepchild.

Very straight-forward fight, just have to manage your characters HP and let the other characters do their jobs.

At least on the DS I noticed his attack pattern is pretty set. He starts with Deluge, which kills 2 or three party members. Use Phoenix down/Cecil's raise spell to revive them while you dualcast with Rosa (if you burned 3 augments on the twins...) Curaja and Shell(if not then have Cecil do the shell when he can). Once Shell is up you should survive the next deluge, but you have 3 rounds to get everything else ready. A multi-target Blizzara will be next, then a single target Blizzara, finally a MT Blizzaga. During this make sure you cast Slow on him, and haste on Rydia and Rosa. If Cecil's pounding and Ramuh/Thundaga doesn't finish him off before the MT Blizzaga make sure you are all at full HP and have Rydia and Rosa defend and if you have him, Kain Jump. Edge may go down, and then again he may survive the second Deluge. Heal quickly because I believe he will Deluge AGAIN before the pattern repeats. Honestly the fight is pretty much cake if you keep Rosa alive and casting MT Curaja spells(which is basically true for every fight in this game...).

Leviathan

Level ........ 48
HP ........ 30000
EXP ...... 150495

Leviathan starts the battle with Deluge, which is a nasty attack that hits
everyone for massive damage (and will most likely KO a few characters). After
that, his pattern will be:

Blizzara -> Blizzara -> Blizzaga -> Deluge (sometimes twice) -> Back to start

To counter this, you should be at a decent enough level to actually fight him
(which is why I suggested 46-50). Start by hitting Leviathan with Slow and
then
concentrate on reviving your own team and getting Shell on them. Rosa is dedicated to healing duty. Period. Don't be afraid AT ALL to burn a Dry
Ether (or even an Elixer) on her because she'll make excellent use of it. Have
her re-cast Shell as needed and hit up some characters with Haste when she can.

Whenever Rydia is awake, have her summon Ramuh. That's all there is to it. Kain should Cry and Jump (he'll miss out on healing but he can also miss out on
Deluge if you're lucky). Cecil should help out wherever he can (Protect, Shell,
Cura, etc.) Edge should Throw Shurikens if you have them or attack as he sees
fit.

Leviathan is tough but he'll go down. It may take you a few tries to do this so
I HOPE YOU SAVED BEFORE.
At least he has low HP. You'll gain a few levels, plus get lots of gil in beating him up.

I found Asura pretty easy. You just have to cast reflect on her so she won't be able to heal herself with Curaga.
