I would also like to start the story with Kain and see where, when, and how the whole rivalry thing happend. Also he would be awesome too use through the whole game quit simply put his awesome Dragoon jump ability.

i would have to say edge, because he comes as a powerful character at first, and i really like his ninja and throw abilities.

I would either like to start the game with Rydia or Kain. It would make the game interesting to have the main character be one of these two. With Rydia it would have been cool to go to the land of summons and venture with her. With Kain it would be cool to be switching from the sides of evil and good. If I had to choose I would pick Kain. Even though these characters would have been great main characters, I would still like to have Cecil be the main character. He was a good character to be the leader.

I would go with Kain. Kain is pretty much like Cecil except he stays true to his original character, which makes him the best choice.

the reason i chose other, is because i would love to be kain. Kain is my favorite charector in this game and he has a interesting conflict in the story line.

Kain. He is the most interesting as well as the most unexplained character in the game. Nobody knows how he became a dragoon, nobody knows how he and Cecil met, and nobody knows anything about him other than that he has an interest in Rosa, and is friends with Cecil at the same time.

Kain and Cecil were both adopted by King Baron at very young ages. That is when they became friends. Kain became a dragoon instead of a dark knight(the king wantaed him to be a DK) because he siad it made him feel closer to his father who was also a dragoon. all of this is clearly stated within the game. You just need to pay more attention to kains storyline.
