I have been playing Final Fantasy 4 for about two or three days and I have got to the part were Cecil jest turned into a paladin. Now does he stay a paladin the whole game or does he change back to a dark knight?

Hey why don't you beat the game there before so we don't spoil it for you. Anyway if you insist, I'm afraid to much displeasure of many gamers, no.... The paladin will retain it's identity throughout the course of the game.
However, many kicka** swords are to come...many powerful, malicious, evil swords..... MUAHAHAHAHAHA! |

Unfortunatly, no, he doesnt change his form back to the Dark Knight.
..why there was never a choice to go either dark or light is beyond me, it'd make for a much more in-depth story then it is.. atleast that's what I think.

A lot of people like the Dark Knight better, but it just doesn't work with the game. In order to overcome evil, you can't be a symbol of evil yourself. Makes perfect sense. That's why you can't go back to being a Dark Knight -- that would be abandoning the "light" of the Paladin, thus abandoning the "good" and going "evil" (beware the Dark Side!), thus abandoning your quest against evil.
Anyway, your Paladin levels up very quickly, as I'm sure you've noticed -- you could easily get him to level twelve or fifteen before you make it back to Mysidia. And he's a hellovalot more powerful than the Dark Knight, with much better weapons.

The Paladin only levels up faster because he starts at level 1, if Cecil went from a Paladin to a Dark Knight it would have went the same way. Starting at level 1, he'd gain alot of levels on Mount Ordeals, until he gets to a point where he is close to the rest of the party, but behind by a significant amount.
I like the Paladin, one of the strongest characters in the game, if not the strongest. Way better than the Dark Knight.

For what it's worth, Lv1 Paladin has stats that are about the equivalent of Lv20-30 DarkKnight. In my game, when Cecil turned into a Paladin his level dropped by 20 and his HP went up by a few hundred.
Light is much stronger than evil... go figure. It's necessary that he make the transition for plot purposes, but from an aesthetics and "fairness" standpoint I sorta wish Dark Knight was the equivalent of Paladin. |

I guess that the square enix focuses on the goodness and tries to make us as the gamers acknowledge how we should act. "Light is good and darknesss is bad, clear your heart of darkness and you shall be filled with light." kind of like that. I've noticed that final fantasy games are targeted mostly towards your emotional thoughts...just a thought...

Ok, what you need is a black chocobo which you can get from the chocobo forest north of troia. Secondly you fly east to a remote island cave where deep within the cave lies an elf. BEWARE OF HIS EVIL SCHEME, Muahahaha!

Because your party gets defeated. Or in other words, you die. Get killed. Lose. Pwned. Unless it's some type of glitch.
Dark Elf uses a magnetic field to protect himself, so anything metal -- swords, armor, Iron Ring, etc. -- will immobilize you. You learn this from the eight Clerics in Troia. So once you change your equipment -- with leather armor, Ruby Rings, and even a bow and arrows for Cecil -- you can go through the cave without it holding you down. I usually don't fight anything on the way to Dark Elf, and nearly everything on the way back. You'll figure out why once you get to him. BEFORE YOU GO. While in Troia, look around. You'll meet an old friend in the infirmary, and they'll give you something you'll need to take with you. YOU WILL NEED IT. As in, the storyline will not progress without it.
