Does anyone know some good areas for leveling? I'm fairly new into Final Fantasy III so all my guys are around level 14, and I'm by the Gnome village. I want to stop with the story for a bit and take the ship or walk to an area and just level for a few hours but most of the areas I'm at right now only offer about 150-200 exp. points per battle. Any suggestions?

| | Ok so you want more then 150-200 exp. right? okies then go south and go into the desert around there the monsters give you around 200 but if you walk west youll eventually hit the end of the map. A good thing to do is scale the whole perimiter of the map walking. MOst of the monster there give you around 250 experience, depends on how many there are in battle, But theres no town while your trying to finish going around the map. the only town is the the one located as far west as the map will let you. So before you leave get lots of poitions and helling stuff.

126 | hellbred., Kill off three of your party members. The one will then acumulate 4x the experience points take turns leveling up one person at a time. Thats what i did early on in the game. It helps if you do alot of grinding before you get party members also, becasue when you do they start out 1-2 levels above you. Good Luck!

11 | Hmmm, I'm a little ahead of you, but I would say I would play a bit more to open more of the world map. And when that happened, what I did was I walked around leveled up and stole. So it feels a bit less monotonous. Sorry that this doesn't give you a specific area. Dragon Peak may be a good one, since there's phoenix downs to steal, while leveling up. Hope this helps.

| | I ended up finding a little place near the Dwarven Caves. If you float around in the ship for awhile you immediately encounter some harder foes than before you beat the Tower. The EXP isn't too much higher, but it's topping out at around 225-250 EXP. Just FYI to anyone who needed help with this like I did. | ||||||||

I'm now on the surface continent, which offers a lot of EXP per battle even with all 4 characters alive. The random-fight monsters are sometimes harder than the floating continent's boss encounters, but that's why I'm leveling now... I'm only like level 28... I want to be about level 35 before I continue, but it'll take some time.

Since posting in this thread, I have gotten the Raise magic spell, and used it often to revive my party if I kill some of them off to level some of my characters.

153 | Hi guys; I'm on the surface continent with my ship locked up by chain and I know where I've got to go... but I'm levelling up my guys (and girls!) and running out of pheonix downs! Where can I get pheonix downs on the surface world (without travelling in the ship)? FYI (bit more on where I am): On the surface continent in the bottom right corner world. Just done the bit in the town where my ship is chained down and in the sewers where you encounter the woman who gives you the levigrass shoes. ...so I'm just stood outside that town now! Any help please?!

| | I don't believe you will encounter any in hidden chests until you reach Saronia Castle, which is a little ways away (not too far). You will have to complete the Sewers, Goldor Manor, and the Goldor boss fight before your ship is unlocked (by obtaining the key from defeating Goldor). After which you may travel Northeast to Saronia Castle and there are 2 Phoenix Downs. Also the Northeastern village of Saronia has the "Raise" spell for anyone who can access Level 5 magic. This will illiminate your need for Phoenix Downs. | ||||||||

153 | Thanks for the bit of advice Hellbred. I built up a bit to a very unimpressive level 27 and got past Goldor manor and freed my ship with no problems. Although I now have no pheonix downs until I play again tonight (in Saronia; which is huge!). I had no problems with Goldor boss though, even at level 27. Thought I may be weak in comparison. Luneth is damn strong in my party though getting quite high on the stakes with being a Monk. Think I might follow up that job class through to mastering it, but my set up at the minute has no decent magic abilities in the job classes (Monk, Bard, Dark Knight, Dragoon). Is there a good set up of job classes at this point in the game? When do I find the "Summons"?

| | Don't worry about the level 27 right yet. I think I was only level 30 (or possibly less) when I decided to fight Goldor. I got tired of not being able to travel back and forth from the floating continent so I was just like screw it, and fought him anyways. Saronia is a pretty integral part of the game. Especially once you are able to unlock all the shops, since when you first visit Saronia you are limited to maybe 3-4 shops. Be sure you get the Wind Spear by visiting Southwest Saronia. The old manin the Southwest part of the village gives it to you after you have saved Alus from the soldiers. If you need any maps/item lists for the shops let me know (there are a lot) so I could scan my strategy guide pages for you to reference. As far as job classes go, I've always just went my own way. I think there's a good combination of jobs to use when you read the end of the game, but up until this point each job carries it's own points of strength and weaknesses. I was discouraged to use Dragoon at first due to him not being able to use magic but trust me.... put a Dragoon in your party. If you level your party well, and get all the best weapons and hidden items for the Dragoon... he is by far the most beneficial right now. I believe I'm only at level 35 right now and my dragoon does somewhere between 2000 and 4500 damage when using the Jump command. Other than that I've used the White Mage since the beginning. A good level white mage can use their healing abilities and heal your party in 1-2 turns, compared to a low level magic user using heal and it taking 5-6 turns. I also have a Ranger. Not popular among many but does a lot of damage with the best Bows and the Medusa arrows. The Barrage command can cause massive damage. And of course the Onion Knight. Not powerful at all for awhile, but you have to start leveling early on if you want to be able to use it for the end boss. Plus he has access to high level magic right away, and can use all forms of magic. So if your white/black mage only have 1-2 magic points for a certain level (or none at all) your Onion Knight can still cast these spells, although they are significantly lower in damage since your magic users will always cause more damage. | ||||||||

I spent over an hour looking round Saronia last night and got the spear and dragon armour from wizard guy in SW Saronia village, so at least he's all set to go!
