Question! for FF2

I'm playing the original NES FF2 on an emulator, and is it just me or do you have to beat Firion/Frioniel within an inch of his life to make his HP go up? All the enemies seem to attack Guy and he just gets a tap and his HP shoots up. Maria is so-so. I always have to manually hit Firion with my other characters to make him level up. The result is that Guy is always like 100HP ahead of everyone cos he gets hit the most, despite everyone being in the front row. I don't wanna put Guy in the back cos he's my strongest offense with axes.

Also, does anyone know the formula for working out how much Gold you get at the end of a battle? I fight a few goblins and sometimes get up to 150G, other times only like 12G. Any answers?

I noticed that on my GBA version.
I think you make your characters how you like, but they'll grow stronger in a pre-set way. Like my Maria, her Back row attacking grew quicker than when I tried it with Firion.
If not, then I don't have a clue.

Oh joy. I figured their stats are kinda predetermined.
And the money thing?

all u gotta do is weakin them 2 a point werethere on the ground most of the time. If ur guy has 600hp then weakin him 2 12/600 and for sure he will level up. Do not heal him or it won't work.

the same is true for your MP - you have to use it all up before it gets any higher. once you reach mysidia you can learn the spell 'Change' or 'Swap' depending on which translation you play. use this against a real week enemy to level up your characters the fastest. until then, train your MP by casting spell after spell on the captains roaming fynn, and just beat the snot out of your own party against non-threatening enemies.

hooray! (i can't believe they actually play tested this game and released it thinking that their system worked)

I know, you can get your stats really high by pounding and casting on your own characters right at the begining of the game. Its stupid.
And you don't even have to master it like the junction system of FFVIII or even have 2 brain cells.

yeah and gold comes completely randomly. the numbers have minimums and maximums, as seen in the GBA's bestairy. the goblins drop 3-83 gold each.

all u gotta do is:

If u want ur HP 2 rise then attack urself
Mp-use a lot of magic or use swap
MD-attack urself wit magic
Agilty/straegth keep on attacking
Envasion-get attacked.

U get the point by now.

HOWEVER

it should be noted that i absolutely adore the story, themes, characters, creatures, and especially MUSIC from FFII. all flaws aside, it's still one of my favorites - for being so bold in its scale, and for killing off every character you care about lol.

in fact, i looked up the CG intro for the origins version of FFII on youtube the other day, and as maria and the others surveyed the ruin of fynn and nobuo uematsu's 'rebellion theme' slowly faded in, i broke down and cried from over 7 minutes. i'm not making this up - i was balling out of control.

And it dosn't even take long 2 raise ur HP. Just play for at least an hour and ur Hp should go up by 1000-3000 if u attacked ur self.

ummm wrong topic penguin, but you could get the rom and a nes emulator, and yes its availible for like 20 bucks on ebay and its worth every penny. and more.
