| Final Fantasy I+II The first two titles that started it all have been made and remade for several systems from the NES to the PSP. Talk about any iteration of these two titles here. |

56 | I don't think I could currently decide which version of I+II I prefer, though I imagine I tend towards either the original NES version, or the Playstation adaptation. The GBA one seems a tad too easy, especially FFII which seems almost too simplistic for words (when I played, none of my stats ever went down, and I eventually resorted to killing bad guys by tapping them on the head with knives). I've never experienced the PSP version, though, which I suppose doesn't make this exactly a definitive decision... At any rate, the games are awesome. I don't think I'll ever get tired of four random be-cloaked and armoured guys flying about in a magical boat...

| | Final Fantasy I has a cool D&D feel to it, but it's very basic, and in my experience if you're looking for a game that's really going to draw you in with a story and fun game play, you'll end up looking elsewhere. Final Fantasy II is kind of the same, only very exploitable. Your characters' stats are raised based on what happens to you in battle, so if you frequently get low on HP, there's a good chance your HP will be raised after a battle. Thing is, you can target and attack yourself, doing massive damage and ensuring an HP boost. And to boost attack and weapon proficiency, which raise as you use magic and attacks, you just have to select and deselect. You can't do this with the last slot character, but that isn't a problem because a lot of random guest characters often fill the last slot. The game was designed so that proficiency is counted when an ability is selected, not carried out, and de-selecting does not undo it. This works on the Final Fantasy Origins version of the game on the PS1. I don't know if it works on the other versions, I haven't played them. | | Only for Final Fantasy Origins for the PS1 and Dawn of Souls on the GBA. However, if you're looking for a more "engaging" experience that "easier on the eyes," get the PSP version. I'll again state my case that the DS has far greater gameplay capabilities that frequently go untapped and used only to play minigames and select options from menus. However, if you want better WiFi capabilities, movies, and multimedia, I would go with the PSP.
