FF1/2 -- NES or GBA?
Having never played FF1-3 before, I was wondering what the consensus on which version of FF1 and FF2 are better, the NES originals (fan translation of FF2) or the GBA remakes? From what I heard, the GBA versions aren't just simple graphical updates.
Also, what about the PlayStation version? I've only beat the 4 SNES titles and FF7 on the PC so far. (Played FF8 on the PC, didn't like it much) |

The Gameboy version of FFI has the MP system (and Ethers), instead of the "spell uses" thing that the NES and Playstation versions have.
The Playstation version also has slow loading times and you need a TV to play on, so it's not the most portable (obviously). The Gameboy version of FFI also has new features that the others don't, such as extra dungeons. I would recommend Dawn of Souls over the Original and Playstation versions. |

I would recomend the GBA version. Ive played both the Nes versions and GBA.
The nes ones might be hard to find plus being updated hasnt taken anything away from them. And the added content adds about 5 hours onto the games.

I wish there was more challenge too. But thats the problem with RPG's,when confronted with a tough battle you can just reset, train up a couple of levels then head back. (although i prefer a challenge
)

Where does the difference in difficulty really lie? Is it that the GBA versions require less levelling? If so, that's only a good thing, because spending hours just picking random battles to level up my characters isn't exactly fun. That's not a challenge, that's tedium.

Its not less leveling, its just leveling is much easier. You could prolly get to level 20 in an hour or so, maybe more. You'll just naturally progress levels by rushing to places as fast as you can, you'll never need a level up session.

The extra dungeons make leveling up easy too - if you can be bothered, plus if you take the time to do the dungeons, ulitmate weapon can take down Garland easy enough on a decent character

I've played I and II on both the GBA and the NES, but I've only beat it on the GBA. I'd also say I like it more on the GBA. It's more mobile, and you can take it on the road or wherever you need to. Plus some people don't want the inconviance of hooking up an NES just to play those 2 games. So for me I say GBA.

I once downloaded the original FF1 and could barely beat any monsters. On the GBA, though (That I actually own), I'm on my 2nd playthrough with 1, and lost in Pandemonium with 2.
Reasons why the GBA version of 1 pwns the others: 1: It's easier 2: Some elements of gameplay are the same, where some (Name Changes (Monsters & Magic) and MP system) are modernized 3: New Dungeons and Items. Last edited by Metal Shadow X; 05-20-2006 at 03:52 PM. |
