ff1:best starter class

1st-red mage, has a strong attack and can use any magic
2nd-warrior, he's strong and has a lot of HP
3rd-white mage, HEALING POWERS EFFECTIVE (duh!)
4th-theif, but i wouldn't say the theif is "good"

I think the best starter party is a combination of Warriors and Red Mages. It will give you a nice simplicity. Warriors just attack. Red Mages will also just attack, but when needed, they heal. How convinient! Of course a White Mage won't kill ya....literally! (OMG, what a lame joke!)

On my game Im playing atm:

Fighter -=- great attack
Fighter -=- more attack!
White Mage -=- Healing
Monk -=- I liked the monks on V

Favourite would be the monk, i dunno I just like him

I would say the Warrior.

Best weapons.

Best armor.

Good damage even if he doesn't have the assistance of Haste.

White Magic, which just sets him over the top, he doesn't really need it, but it makes him very versatile.

The other classes are good, except the Thief who is useless IMO, but the other classes just have more drawbacks in comparison to the warrior.

I like the warrior. He increases his power and HP quicker than the other characters. He's only lv. 56 on my game and already has 999hp and takes about 500-700hp off the enemy each time! (depending on the enemy)

I say monk. Yes i know you can not get good amour for him but when he gets to higher levels his attack strength is quite good.

I say red mage too.
The red mage is just like a boy scout.
need a cure? red mage has it.
need some offence? red mage is capable.
need some elemental magic? look to the red mage.

whatever the circumstance, a beginner will always
find the red mage handy.

A party that I think is good is a warrior, monk, red mage, and white mage. I find that the red mage's healing and fighting works well with the white mage, they don't do to little but just enough. The monk is very powerful, but still lacks defense, which is why the warrior is there to even things out. They can be very strong as long as you have enough experiance.

My starter party was:
Fighter
Theif
W.Mage
B.Mage
Just because when they class change they become more versatile
and they become extremely power

For the first timer, I would think Fighter Fighter Black mage White mage this is what I used. Yes an expensive party, but now you can fight almost anything because you can take a lot more damage. So now that you'll be able to do that its easier to raise levels. Like I said Expensive... but that just forces you to keep pretty good levels.

red mages are pretty good at the beginning of the game but completely useless by the end. they can't learn the hardcore black magic or white magic, and their melee is nothing compared to the knight.

so i guess, a red mage is good - a red wizard is pretty useless. their hats are pretty cool though...

Thiefs attack gains fast and so does his HP. Kick-ass Ninjas with a Masamune are fun

The best balanced party is Fighter, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage.
Or Fighter, Theif, White Mage, Black Mage.

Fighter, Fighter, Red Mage, Black Mage. Isn't to bad but not as much healing as the White Mage.

Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage gives you the most magic combined with some attack.

i wul say thief cus he becomes a ninja and warrior just ruins the game deafiting them too fast.
but my ninja is even more lvl than my wht mage and my wht mage have more hp?!
