Text In Photoshop
Hey, I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0. I am trying to make a binder for a client tomorrow, and get some glossy pages printed out by tomorrow.
What I'd like to know is how to actually type in PS just like I can in a Word program. It seems as if I have to type some words and then move them all, and that will simply take too long, as I need to use tabs and create tables and such. If anyone can explain to me how I can do this, or if there is another program that I have that can help me, this would be great. Hmm...a list of other programs might help. Well I'm using a Dell Inspiron PC with Microsoft XP Home, of course I didn't think I would need the office version. I have WordPerfect 11, Word Pad, Dell Image Expert, Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and a few other things, but I dunno if any others will help us here. I'm sure I possibly have some shitty paint program. If some can explain or show me a tut on explaining how to do it, I'd appreciate it. Thank you, Cobain

Adobe Photoshop is not the program of choice for what you're wanting to do.
Adobe Illustrator, however, will do what you're wanting. As will Adobe Pagemaker. Thing is, it's a little late for you to be learning new programs. >_> Plus, I can't tell you where to get those. (And the torrents for them never work anyway.) So... hmm. You can also try some other graphic design ware like The GIMP, but it's very similar to Photoshop in the sense that it doesn't have much in the way of a text editor. Most graphic design software is geared moreso toward the graphical end, not the textual end. ...for future reference, you'll want to do the image editing in Photoshop, and the text editing in Pagemaker. When you've been in publishing for as many years as I have, I guess these things seem second-nature. If you can afford it (and if you need to do more projects like this in the future), buy a copy of Pagemaker. That reminds me. I don't have Pagemaker. >_< ...happy birthday to me, I guess. *runs to parents*

...Type like in a word processor? Erm.. PS isn't a word processor, yo. Just drag a text box and type what you want in it. And if you run out of room, make the box bigger.
It's really not that hard...

No no, you don't quite understand what he needs to do though.
Photoshop doesn't have the dynamic qualities that Pagemaker does when it comes to text editing in a graphical situation. Pagemaker is the program used for most publishers around the world, whether it's newspapers, magazines, or sometimes even books. Photoshop will not be able to put text-based tables into a page-long document. Pagemaker is built around that. ...erm, bottom line Cobain, I don't know what to suggest. I really wish you would have asked us sooner, rather than the day before it's due though. Then maybe we could have actually been of some real help. ^_^;;

No, unfortunately Loco I do not have Adobe Illustrator or Pagemaker. I only have Photoshop and Imageready. More good news. EDIT: All I really want to do is put text on a page in Bank Gothic Font, and I want a Gradient overlay from top to bottom on the page Foreground Color Dark Red and Background Color White.

i'm kind of confused as to what you're wanting to do but...
in Photoshop.. i. create a new document ii. select the text tool...(icon in your toolbox that has the big "T") iii. in your document, click + drag to the right as far as you want your "text box" to be. iv. adjust font and font size as you go. v. this will create a new text layer in your layers properties so if you want to move it around to adjust it you can..... simply click your "Move tool" in your toolbox while that text layer is selected.... then drag accordinly... if you can't find the Move tool, click your toolbox bar and type "V" maybe this helped? |

Actually, Adobe InDesign and Quark are what the pros use for page layouts.
Photoshop does have text support includiung basic typography tools such as kerning and should be enough for most minor projects. |

I remember the days when it was ALL about PageMaker. Many businesses around here I've worked with still use it, you know. ![]()
