I recently upgraded my MediaCom cable modem from the 128k plan to the 'high-speed' internet plan... I was about to go mental on the current plan b/c everything was going drastically slow. Now that I am on the new plan... Everything is noticably faster... but I'm not sure if I am getting the proper speeds still. I was wondering if anyone else had a high-speed cable modem plan, and if so... what speeds to you recieve? You can test your bandwidth speed here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/Bandwidth.asp I have been testing an average of about 1000 kb/s... which I hear is the min. speed of a high-speed cable modem. I was expecting atleast 2000. | ||||||||

| | I am running a sad dial up 56 K connect at the mo, until I get my high speed dsl back, probably a big reason why I'm not online that much yet. However I was wondering, I always thought that DSL was a faster connection than Cable. Is it, or am I wrong here, because DSL never really disconnects, but a Cable connection can. I'll test my speed once I get my DSL back.

| | Ah, temp. running the 'ole 56k modem... I bet you can't wait until you get your DSL back. I'm not too sure on the noticable differences of the 2, but I think DSL may be a little better in regard to connectivity levels and constant bandwidth speeds. It also depends on who the service providers are. MediaCOM sucks, but I have to use them b/c they are the only providers in my area. Yeah, let me know your speed once you get it back, I'm just curious. | ||||||||

| Mistress of Succubi | I'll have to test my bandwidth when I get home as well. I don't know my speed, hehe. I think it's pretty fast though. And actually, my cable only disconnects if I go past my bandwidth limit, I think... And DSL does infact disconnect. It's from your phoneline, so if something happens and your phoneline dies, it infact dies as well. And I have a friend who has DSL, and he gets a lot of disconnects. Edit: I did the test, here are the results: Download Bandwidth Test Results Download speed: 1692 kilobits per second Test details: 3354 kilobytes downloaded in 15.86 seconds. Receive buffer size: Not available

| | wow, it looks like everyone has killer speeds compared to what I am getting... I scheduled for a TECH to come out to my apartment and test the cable line, I'm hoping they can find something wrong. Also, I would suggest everyone to d/l TCP Optimizer and run it. It takes 2 seconds and it sets all your TCP configurations and other network settings to the optimal setting... I saw noticable differences after I rebooted. | | Running Mediacom Cable in Des Moines, Iowa: 2119 kilobits per second Test details: 1204 kilobytes downloaded in 4.547 seconds. I hardly ever have poor performance speed unless I'm running Kazaa for a good while. Got to load up on great Video Game Remixes, no?
