If playing Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Nintendo Wii was hard to believe, what about the rest of the RPG genre? Yasumi Matsuno, former director of Final Fantasy XII asked the same question at a conference in Tokyo last week as he declared his plans to develop for the console.

"The Wii controller makes total sense when you think about FPS-like games, but my question was, will the controls fit other existing games?" he was reported in saying. "However, when I first tried Mario Galaxy, I realized that the controller fit the game almost scarily well. It allows you to intuitively feel the game and its atmosphere."

The company Matsuno will develop for or the details of the project are currently unknown. Yasumi Matsuno is known for his creation of the Ogre Battle series and was responsible for the development of Final Fantasy Tactics.

It sounds like more designers are starting to see how the Wii could benefit their games! And this designer is coming over from FF tactics and FF XII. That sounds pretty good to me.

About the Wii i have a feeling that it might do what the DS did which was leaving designers a little curious with it but not willing to experiment till later games have been released but hopefully it will have a good line-up (not including the games already confirmed for it)

I'm just glad it will be out before Xmas over here, it's got the PS3 beaten on release date, price and ingenuity. I reckon the Wii will be giving it a good go uo against the other consoles.

yeah ive just put my preorder down now , can't wait till christmas now lol but i think that the PS3 will beat it not because its better (which its not) but because everyone is up sony's butt for consoles but yeah im nintendo all the way

La la la... this club needs a boost, and I haven't posted anything for at least a couple days, so...

I have not yet done anything about securing my Wii. I just paid for my college books ($211, or so) and I haven't paid tuition yet, so... ugly. At least this is the last term for a while. Maybe by the time the Wii comes out, I will have the money to buy it. It should only take a little more than half my paycheck for the Wii and a game... La la la...

Lately, I haven't been hanging around TFF as much; I've been over on the Nsider boards. Specifically, the Smash Brothers boards. There's always a lot of talk over there about who thinks what new character should be in, and who's going to be removed (because it has been confirmed that some characters won't be returning for Brawl.) How do y'all feel about this?

There will be 3 3rd party characters (or possibly 5). Megaman and Sonic seem to be the top choices for the second and third slots after Snake, while the other popular choices are Bomberman, Pac Man, Simon Belmont, Crono, and Shadow. Some people claim that Shadow is the most popular choice. I seriously find this hard to believe (then again, people have claimed that Dr. Mario was the third most popular character in Melee, Jigglypuff is the 2nd most popular pokemon, and Pichu is the 2nd biggest pokemon icon; all in Japan. Also, in that Top 100 games of all time list some big Japanese magazine put out, Smash Brothers, along with all of the Mario games besides Super Mario Kart, did not make the list. Is it just me, or do they have some strange tastes over there?)

Anyhoo, I would personally like to see Sonic, Megaman, Bomberman and Crono as the additional 3rd party characters (or Sonic and Crono if they are only doing three third parties.) I somehow have the feeling that Crono would be a real stretch, however. Shadow would seem a stretch too, however, as it is generally understood that each 3rd party would only have one character in this game. The logical choice for Sega would be Sonic, yes?

As for regular 1st and 2nd party characters, I'd like to see Krystal, Wolf, and Geno that I can think of off the top of my head. (Although Geno is owned by Square, for some reason he was among the 1st party characters in Sakurai's poll. I don't get it, either.) Ridley would probably be cool, too. Maybe Magikoopa/Kamek, as well.

However, names of characters such as the dog from Duck Hunt, Tom Nook, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, and Bowser Jr. (to name a few) have all been given as serious suggestions. Besides Tom Nook, I think I'm fairly opposed to all these suggestions. Daisy, Toad, and Toadette are all very minor, filler-type characters. Bowser Jr. is a younger version of Bowser, who is already in the friggen' game. The Dog... I dunno. I guess he was the main character of his game... kind of... he also might have one of the best taunts ever (pointing at the camera and laughing).... I dunno. Maybe he'd be a similar character to Mr. Game and Watch; fun to confuse or embarrass your opponents with.

Finally, there will be characters removed. If I had my way, it would be Dr. Mario and Pichu. Dr. Mario is already in the game, as Plumber Mario. Why does he need to be in twice? Pichu... I just didn't like. It was a small, pointless addition to the Pikachu family in Pokemon. Essentially, it's a weaker version of Pikachu. Since it's impossible to distinguish between pokemon, too, it might be Smash's pikachu when it was younger. Just like Young Link (who I also felt a little disappointed in upon unlocking him.)

Btw: they really don't like it over there when you don't like a character that they do... Label you a newbie and such. It's great. Anyhoo...

I think they should take Dr Mario because his moves suck and as Gusto said he's just a double of Mario i also wanna seen luigi again because he doesnt do anything special i want them to add Sonic and a character they definatly wont add Leon Kennedy im looking forward to playing as snake after MGS is my favourite game

I loved Smash Bros Melee, but I didn't like that amount of characters that were just copies of each other. Ganondorf for example should have had the ability to shoot his dark bolts, deflect with his cape and slam the ground to create a shockwave. But no they just made him the same as Captain Falcon.

I think they should add Sonic to the game and how about Conker, he'd have his uzis, the ability to piss on his enemies and he's have his trademark frying pan for his smash move. Sonic would have his launch spin as down B, lightning shield as up B, attracting nearby enemies to it to become shocked, Fire Shield as his forward b. Hell yeah that would be awsome.

it is a run down of all of the top 10 lists from different magazines if you look at the bottom it has a run down of the total games for each console. The top winner was the PC but then the Super Nintendo, NES, Gamecube and the N64 had more games or tied with more games on the list then Playstation or X-Box. Also super mario was included on 17 of the 23 lists. That seems pretty impresive.

Any thoughts?

what an awesome list compilation! i like how super mario 64 won greatest game of all time overall through the history of lists. it's pretty hilarious how dated some of the games on there are, and how it shows how absolutely bogus those lists are to begin with. tony hawk's pro skater 2 in the top 10 games of all time? hahaha whatever man...

and the fact that entertainment weekly would have the mindless trend-following gull to include Madden - 2003 LOL - anyone who's played the last 3 years of madden games (which are all complete rip offs by the way) know that the series has fallen from the grace it never really had (most true hxc gamers prefer 2K's gameplay over madden's name). not to mention the fact that i have to line up shelf after shelf of used sports games on the PS2 and XBOX walls at work at GameStop. they are UGLY. they are TASTELESS. they are completely counter to what i love about video games. Madden 2003 - one of the top 10 games of all time, for $1.99 at gamestop!

ok, i'm diverting the topic to a VG pet peeve - annual release sports titles, and the fools who line up to buy them. biggest difference between madden 2005 and madden 2006? madden 2005 was playable, madden 2006 sucked. biggest difference between madden 2006 and madden 2007? madden 2006 had a full color booklet, madden 2007 has a 8 page B&W pamplet.

what do they all have in common?

they were all $50 for the first year they were out, then their value dropped to below $5 when next year's version was released. when will this house of cards fall? when EA loses its exclusive NFL license and other companies are finally once again allowed to make NFL franchise football games, and one of them just makes a decent game that isn't rushed as fuck, and also offers downloadable roster/stat updates as the season progresses, and when the new season starts. seriously, the data for who's on what team and how good everyone is could fit on a freakin 3.5" floppy. and this is what people shell out $50 for every year.

oh well, serves them right. sports are for jocks and video games are for the cool - now that jocks are pretending to be gamers i guess i don't mind that they're all getting ripped off.

What I kind of find interesting is that on that guy's own Top Ten List, he has Donkey Kong 3 has his third favorite game ever. It's weird because I've heard a lot of people didn't like that game, and I wonder what he saw in it that made him think it was that good. To each his own, obviously, but it would be interesting to hear arguments for that particular game.

Mario's game is Numero Uno. Right on. Although I guess Link still claims the title of "most popular video game character ever." And Sonic? Not even popular? ...that's crazy.

Were these all polls by American gamers, though? I wonder what would happen if he put lists in from Japan, too, and other big gaming nations...
