Hey folks, not posted here in a while. Just letting you know that the Number One scottish guy is still alive and well.

Bored as like and Im struggling to get my lip piercing back in, ****ing bar wont connect to the ring. Oh and I have less than a month to learn 6 songs since my bassist has been thrown out of my band and I must now do Vox and Bass.

Anyway, im back.

Well Ive been contemplating this question to myself for quite sometime now and would like to hear other EU members' opinions on it.

Do you think a country like Turkey, which openly hinders the freedom of speech and still takes many rights from their women, should be let into the EU?

I do not know much about the Turkish economy, however, what I do know is that their population is very large which places a greater burden on budget allocation. Turkish farmers, like those other smaller European countries who recently joined are technologically behind the the larger EU countries (France, Germany and the UK) which means the terrible CAP will continue and spending may even go up to bring these new farmers in-line with what the EU sees as the standard for all. Back in 2000 it was estimated the CAP budget was 50% or more of the entire EU budget and how many people in the EU did it help? Around 5%. About Turkey?
Meh...it's less bad there than the media let's you believe. But still I don't want them to join the EU. Not out of racistic means, but because of their islamic background. "Hey that's a racistic comment". Not really, Europe consists pretty much entirely of Christian countries. Allthough I'm not religious myself I still prefer the christian "morals" in Europe.
A new country like Turkey which got Islamic morals wouldn't mix on a lot of terms with Europe. This could lead to a lot of crap, which I don't want ^^;

Well doubts arise because of the human rights abuse that goes on in Turkey and the political corruption. I'm not saying there is no corruption in any other country, it just seems to be more blatant in Turkey. If Turkey does join the EU then a good thing is that Turkey will have to change a few aspects of the country to be in accordance with the EU regulations (EDIT: state treatment of individuals is what I'm referring to as a better than that in Turkey). Still, Turkey won't be joining until 2007 I'll have to see how they change both socially and economically.

I don't think Turkey should join. Fact is they're an Islamic country, y'know, about as European as baseball. But then again.......what defines Europeans? An unusual capacity for alcohol (or is that only Scotland?), having cultures that are centuries old.......hell, i've confused myself, why shouldn't Turkey join? The more the merrier! I think :/
