Qualifying rounds of European Football Championship

I'm not sure if it's even called that. I feel like talking about football.

Heavyset matches coming up for both England and Scotland very soon. Of course, it would be simply criminal of me not to mention James McFadden and THAT GOAL! Christ. Still can't believe it.

Of course, we were then royally humped by Georgia...annnd the next day one the newspaper headlines was the Scotland Manager, McLeish, saying, 'Don't worry, we can beat Italy!'

The nation let out a collective groan and then started laughing. We have not a hope in hell.

So, who's your favourite to win? Who do you want to win?

Kind of goes without saying that I'd like Scotland to win, as it would be the biggest joke in football history. Or just England to lose, that would pacify my dad enough. He almost cried with joy when we beat France. Actually.

Alas, I think Italy can take it this year. Unless Scotland beats them...quite. Anyway. Scotland ftw, but Italy or maybe Russia will probably take it.

Hmm...you know, no matter how unfavoured a team is, they can always win it. Hence why Greece is the last winner of this competition. Being second in the group, Scotland have proven that they earned a right to be in Europe's 16. Not to mention, thay have beaten France, who have beaten Italy....if you see where i'm going with this. Heck even Poland are kicking ass....and England loss to Russia!

The competition starts june 8th i think? When really, i can't see France nor England come out victorious.

i hate to say it that im english and i dont think england will qualify unless isreal do us a big favour and beat russia and i agree with the above even if england qualify we may not win it

Oh aye, Poland!

Maybe this could be the year to upset things...

I live with an English girl, and her boyfriend spends most of his time in our kitchen. He explained to me last week in long and drawn-out terms the conditions under which England would qualify.

I will not pretend to understand what the **** he was talking about, but he seemed quite optimistic. And he's a smart guy. He certainly wasn't despairing; it was a 'it'll be hard but we're more than capable' thing. And something about Israel, whom he said were likely to lose their match anyway.

I actually can't wait for the whole thing to start. Never in my life have I been excited about football; but living with two English, an Italian and a Pole, this was always going to happen.

We can beat Italy, right...
