Pain Tolerance

I tend to be very good at tolerating pain, so sometimes I go to stupid extents to prove how awesome I am at it. I was in class with 2 of my mates sitting next to me and I was bored, so I opened a case of staplers that was sitting in front of me and started scraping them down my arm so create long bleeding lines down the top of my forearm. My mates decided to see if they could hurt me and started doing it themselves, on my arm. Soon I ended up with about 20 huge lines of bleeding cuts all the way down my forearm. the before the teacher could see I just put my sleeve down and continued with my day like nothing happened, of course I had to use tissues now and then to wipe up the blood, that was about, 7 years ago and there are still are few very clear scars down my forearm forever reminding my of that strange experience.

I could go on about other interesting scenarios but i'll leave them until later.

Have you got any good pain toleration stories or have you seen anyone perform surprising pain toleration feats?

i suck at tolerating pain. I don't cry i just curse and breathe through my teeth like when something hurts.

I went through 4 hrs for 2 tattoos. I'll be signing up for another 2 hrs for a huge one going on my back.

According to a couple studies, I'm supposed to have a really high pain tolerance. The gene that gives me red hair and fair skin plays some kind of role in pain suppression. And it also takes a smaller dose of pain killers to numb pain. Or it could be just the latter and redheaded women just respond better to pain killers because of that gene. And for some reason, it's just women.

So... I might have a high tolerance for pain? I really have nothing to compare it to. I certainly don't like getting hurt or anything, though. I'm not like, "Let's throw rocks at me!" or anything. Things hurt, but I don't know if it's any better or worse than anyone else.

Though, when I used to go to the orthodontist for braces, he would always tell me how odd it was that I never made a sound when he was doing painful stuff with my teeth. I think that was more of a pride thing, honestly.

Let's see... well, I used to have really ****ing painful periods.

It runs in my family, but it's one of the most painful physical thing I have ever had to suffer, most likely.

I can tolerate cuts and bruises really easily. I'm not pussy like that whatsoever. But when it comes to stuff such as severe headache, period pain, etc, I can be reduced to tears.

On a couple of occasions I use to put my hand on the floor and tell people that could do whatever they wanted on it. So someone with shoes on stamped on my hand as hard as he could jumped on it and just plain tortured it. It only go too much when they started twisting the skin on my hand with the sole of their shoe. Other time I would just put my hand on the table and tell my mates to hit it as hard as they could with there hand. So they would clench it into a fist and hit as hard as they can and the funny thing was they sometimes ended up hurting their own hand really bad. It's awesome fun doing that to people.

I tolerate pain okay. I don't go out of my way to prove it, or at least not yet. But I've had some extremely painful experiences and I weathered them pretty gracefully.

Nearly broke my back. Bit by a black widow. Impaled my right foot on a metal stake. Sliced my hands up numerous times. Weathered surgery without anything but a local. Broke two ribs and a clavicle. All without spilling very many if any tears(albeit I did cry during the black widow stint)

But I generally avoid pain on basic priciple.

It seems that internal pain like headaches, Stomach aches or tooth aches really take a lot out of my and I always keep a supply of panadol in case any of that kind of pain starts up.

This thread amuses me.

Pain is a signal sent to your brain to make you aware of danger, if you become too tolerant of pain then you won't recognize danger when you see it.

Anyway it depends for me, I get a lot of headaches so I'm used to the minor ones but some of them hurt a f*cking lot and I can't do anything. Cuts don't hurt at all really and young kids only cry because of the surprise mostly, so I think all these kids who cut themselves on purpose are only fooling the most gullible.

Most of it doesn't really "hurt" per say but it's more like an annoying itch you can't get rid of and eats away at you.

I don't think I tolerate pain very well. I definitely know pain because of my hospital trip last week and the several other times the same thing happened to me. I get a terrible pain in my lower abdominal area randomly and it makes me vomit at times, it could be appendicitis but the doctors I have been to are not entirely sure. I can't tolerate that pain at all, it makes me cry and scream. Minor pains I can handle but bad ones like that are awful and I can't stand it.

I don't like pain in general, it's not nice at all.

I tolerate pain pretty good. The only thing I cant stand is when they touch my stomach.. its really sensetive for some reason. The only thing I can stand without feeling any pain is an Indian Burn or whatever its called people say they hurt but it doesent affect me whatsoever so im cool with that lol.

I'd have to say i can tolerate pain to an extent. I've broken my arm before and ripped my finger right out of the socket when i fell over, the funny thing about them both is that they didn't really hurt in fact the finger thing i kept intentionally poking at it so it made the skin stick out when i was on the way to the hospital... i thought it was pretty cool i could do that, one of my mates got a bit queasy though, pansy XD.

I find that the smaller cuts tend to hurt a lot more than when i come off my bike or skateboard and graze entire chunks of skin off my kness/elbows. I don't skate anymore but i'm starting up Trail biking soon so i pretty much need to have a decent tolerance for pain otherwise i won't be very good at it.

I have a legendary pain tolerance. I'm known for it here.
I also used to pull things such as letting people snap spare planks over my head during electronics lessons in the woodwork rooms. But then I got tired of it all.
Now I say they can do it, but I'll also say I'll do it back.
Unless it's someone I like for whatever reason.
Then it's thump away!

I guess I'm around average...

Thing is, I think I'd complain more about a stubbed toe than say a broken leg. I think short things like smacking your hand or smashing your toe or burning yourself gives yourself more of a shock reaction, I know people with high pain tolerance that still yelp and shout OW! if something like that happens.

For more enduring pain...

Well, ovulating is painful. It's like someone digging a spoon through a very small tube. The uterus knows hurt, too.

Christ on a cracker, when I got a bladder infection and it travelled to my kidneys, I could not move from the pain. It was like searing hot rotating blades of pain that would not go away.

I don't really flinch getting hit or kicked anymore, it's been awhile though. No, kidneys. Bad. Very bad pain.

I've never had any major injuries to test my pain tolerance on, though I did nearly break my toe once. It's not that it didn't hurt, but that I just accepted the fact that it did and even went to work that night. I did take the next day off though. Putting pressure on the toe made it swell and it did turn this sickly purple-black color for a few days. Yeah. But no hospital, no painkillers, just some ice and a stubborn refusal to complain at all.

Most of the injuries I get I don't even notice, othe
