Seriously, Do you return your cart after you are done?

Here is my little story:

It was a nice day so I went shopping, After getting everything out of my cart, I returned it to the designated area as always. The man next to me left his cart but guess where the cart return was? Left next to us! I really start wondering why most of people don't return their carts after they're done !! I return my cart and half the time I return one or two others as well...

Anyway, The question is that:

Do you return your cart after you're done? and what do you think about people who don't return their carts ?

I'm really curious to know your opinions and answers!

Feel free to comment and be honest at the same time !

There's not really much to discuss.

People don't because they're lazy. Some do, some don't. I personally do whenever I get the chance, but sometimes I'm lazy and I don't. It's not really a big deal.

Sure, it'd be easier on the cart person who retrieves them, but it's not like it's that hard in the first place.

I almost ALWAYS return my cart. I guess I'm just nice like that. Even if I'm in a hurry to get somewhere I still return it. The only time I don't is whenever I'm parked really far from the store and there is a cart return near my car. Have you ever seen those cart boys pushing a mile long string of carts? It looks pretty awkward and doesn't seem like the best job in the world. Plus I don't like it whenever I have to dodge carts just to get in and out of a parking space. I hate it when people are too lazy to put their carts where they belong.

Lazy! No! This is not an excuse buddy! spending alot of time searching for your favorite foods and drinks means you are not lazy at all! Returning your cart to its designated area takes a few seconds..funny! but honesty now!! What do you feel when you don't return your cart to it designated area? Do you feel guilty? I will answer inplace of you, No! you feel nothing because you are just thinking about how to get out of the supermarket as fast as you can to enjoy your purchases..

This is all about public behavior..but I really don't know why the hell there is no sign asking people to return their cart when they are done ?? wierd!

Here in America there are designated areas for carts to be returned. It's just that most people are too lazy to return them. They usually leave them in an open area so that the wind pushes them into other cars. Sometimes you see a rogue cart end up on the other side of the street. Missing and damaged carts end up costing the consumer because the supermarket that owns it ends up raising prices of their products to compensate for money spent on new carts.

Hahaha, this thread is strangely original.

Anyway, yeah, I do. It's rare that I don't, and when I don't, it's only because I'm in a "they've got people to move that crap back!" mood. However, most of the time, I do my bit and take it back.

It's been a while since I needed a shopping cart... I live with my parents, and most of the time, they do the shopping.

Yes, yes I do. I just think it's stupid and unfair to not do so.

Infact, once at uni, not having cars, we even went to the effort of taking the trolley all the way to our house (not really supposed to ^_^) and then we went to the effort of taking the trolley all the way back where it came from. We're THAT efficient.

Oh, and kudos on sometimes returning other trolleys too. Seriously, that's idea I hadn't thought of which I respect.

On a slightly related, but not completely related note, a friend of a friend of mine once parked his car in a trolley bay 'cause he couldn't find anywhere else to park. Classic.

I usually go shopping with my Mother on Fridays, not all the time but sometimes. We almost always take the shopping trolleys (as we call them) back to a trolley collection area. It really annoys me when people leave them in the car park, right in the actual parks so you can't go in there. My Dad hates people who do that because then you won't be able to park your car in those spots, it's pure laziness. Also if they are not put away properly, they can roll and hit another car. It's happened countless times to people I know so I wish people could just learn how to put them away properly.

Lol some people live in apartments or houses down the street so they take the trolley with them and leave it on the pathway halfway down the road, I've seen them even further away as well. Lazy!

I rarely actually use a shopping cart when I'm not with my parents or whatever, but I'll return the cart if I use one. Often times if I see any sitting in middle of the the parking lot, I'll return those as well. I find it incredibly obnoxious of someone to just leave their cart somewhere, for various reasons dimmufan has already mentioned. They add up, too. If I were the guy that had to return the carts, and they were all over the place, I bet I'd become very disgruntled over a short period of time.

I had a similar situation in Yellowstone. People would just leave their room trash in the lobby, instead of walking like ten feet out the door to the dumpster and depositing it there. They also wouldn't bother to throw their shit away in the proper places; they'd just throw crap away in the plastics, glass, and paper recycling bins, too. I know the recycling person wasn't particularly happy about that, either. I wasn't. That shit inspired rats to move in, in a place where small rodents carry the hantavirus, a deadly disease that there is, as of yet, no cure for. It's not like I was on shift all the time to take that shit out, either. Anyhoo....

This thread is fascinating. The fact that it is a thread at all will suggest a few interesting details.

I will do myself credit and be honest.

The majority of time (87%, I will gratify the thread with a percentile) I return the cart to the nearest corral(such a deliciously western[vulgar latin] term ^_^)

There are times when it's rainy and the corral is not so near. So, when it would be most useful, I usually do not return it to the corral. Not via a spasm of lazyness, but through inconvenience. To that, I offer my apologies to the poor hapless souls who must, by means of occupation, collect the carts in the rain.

Certainly, it's not a fun thing to do for a dollar.

You can't nick them here. Most of the big supermarkets in North Ayrshire have lines painted around the periphery, and when you push a trolley (screw your Bastardised English, they're called trolleys) over one of these lines the wheel locks with a wee yellow thing, a cover that comes down. A game we used to play as teenagers was putting one of ourselves inside the trolleys, shoving it full speed at a line, and watching the thing fly over complete with passenger.

Still doesn't stop them from saturating rivers. Bus stops and trolleys outnumber fish in the Garnock, I swear.

Anyway, I always put them back, otherwise you don't get your pound back. Don't you people have to pay for trolleys? Here, at least, you put a pound in a wee thing to release the trolley, and when you put it back the pound pops back out.

...I actually never thought I'd type any of that. What a neat thread.

Haha, of course I do! I mean come on! What lazy inconserate person wouldn't return their carts? OK I'm calm now, but still I really think people just don't care about the carts after they serve their purpose, or they have the: "Screw the damn cart, I'm hungry lets go to Taco bell and get our grab on" type attitude. I've seen accidents when people abandon the carts near other people's cars and when the people pull out the parking lot the cart moves in back of the car and either damage the back of the car or the cart ends up hurting someone when the car hits it. Its avoidable seriously just walk the cart back to the cart stalls, that is just common courtesy

LOLZ I'm a parking lot attendant at a growing food market called H-E-B. Funny I found this. Well yeah, it sucks. They make it so much harder for us. Sometimes they'll even look at you and be walking the same distance to put it in the wrong place as they would putting it up. If you put it up I THANK YOU. It makes our already uncomfortable job(It's over 90 degrees every day) much easier.
