Forum Upgrade (3.6.8)

The forums are back online!

I just putting TFF on the new server (hopefully you will notice better performance)... Most of the forums are back, but there will be bugs. That is why I started this thread. If you see any noticeable problems please report them to the staff or post here. Above all everything went smooth and the new VB looks great. There are some nifty new features, but the staff still has to figure out exactly how we want to configure them. I went ahead and opened up shop while we discuss... no since in waiting.

New Features:

- Gold has been successfully converted to 'Credits' I will update the site FAQ with exact amount earned for doing actions around the forums... it is very similar though; meaning you earn Credits for posting, voting in polls, longer 'in-depth' posts, good rep, etc.

- new 'infraction' system available... this is like a warning system, but can be used in categories like: Spammed Advertisements, Insulting Other Member(s),
Signature Rule Violation, Inappropriate Language, and more.

- you will notice new features in the arcade (dont know them all)

Known Bugs:

- All skins (except TFF Light, and most of Dark) do not reflect all the new changes
- scale of costs for arcade games is off
- Redirect errors... sometimes occurs after you LOGIN or make new POST... i'm looking into this. has something to do with the new server environment.

I will add to this thread through out the night as I continue to learn the new system. thanks for your patience why the site was down.

I've also noticed that, when making a post (other than a quick reply), it will redirect me to a 404 and then tell me my post has already been made. I have to go back to the prior page and do a force-refresh for the new info to appear. This is something which should be looked into immediately as it's a major glitch.

Ah.. I never ran into that bug, as I always use Quick Reply. ^_^;;
Thanks for pointing that out, Cesar. XD I would have gone on without knowing it existed.

I usually use Quick Reply as well, but as I was quoting some people in clubs before the boards came back up, it caught my attention. I thought maybe it was an issue with the forums still being turned off at the time, but the issue remains even now that we're back online. So, yeah. I figured it should be pointed out.

It also kills me that I can't use the "New Posts" link. Less important than the reply issue, of course, but just another bug I'd like to point out. I don't know if it's because the feature isn't available with this version of the software (ugh, I hope not), or if the protocols are just screwy right now. I'll attribute it to the latter.

Also, I apologize for the double post, but I'm lazy and this is a separate issue altogether.

As an example, this is the link which appears when I click New Posts:

It also does the same for me with the admin panel, though I've noticed that C&P'ing the second half of the link grants me access. The linking is screwed, but it should be a simple fix.

yeah the REQ_PROTOCOL is my main worry right now... I'm trying to fix it. That is probably the largest bug yet.

I have most of the dark style done and transfered to the new templates of 3.6.8

Actually, it would make sense that non-quick replies would produce the same result... so I suppose it would be the same issue after all. I didn't think to look at the url bar when I was making my replies earlier. Well then, anything I can do to help, or am I better off just tooling around in the new admin panel for the moment?

dude - you can help a lot by toying around in the admin panel. most of the new features have default settings still and there are a lot of lose ends... might give you a good chance to get organized.

I'm just focusing on server and site issues. I'm glad you're on right now. I'm about to brew up another cup of coffee.

P.S. I think i fixed that weird redirecting issue that was such a pain... had to edit something in one of the forum include files... appears to be working?? at least for me.

I've also just noticed that User Reputations aren't working properly either, and just return you to the top of the page. I was just about to give you a handful of rep for your work on this upgrade. I'll see if there's anything in the admin panel about it. Hopefully it's a simple fix; if not, it's something to add to your to-do list on the coding end.

Eh, I honestly don't really do anything with the rep, and a lot of people don't care about it. Some do, but those that don't bring up something that I've seen before, and kind of agree with.

...that doesn't change the fact that there's a bug with it. The point I'm making is that it isn't working properly. Why do you have to counter everything with some pointless, negative comment like that?

Also, there's nothing I can do to fix rep on my end. Probably another linking issue, methinks.

On a further note, I was tooling around with user registration options. It should be much more difficult for the bots to get to us now.

ah, thanks for pointing out the rep. problem. probably something in the templates, i'll check it out. Plus yes there are subtle changes everywhere in the admin panel and throughout the forums that are going to help with both security and spam.

I think i fixed that damn redirect issue... that was a pain in my arse.
