On the subject of ranking...we already had a basic one in place. It caused too much confusion so we scrapped it. With the ranking system now in place, people know where they stand in certain areas of writing. Tournament grades will tell you the overall. So yeah. >_> Let's not try to confuse ourselves.
Name...I don't know, The Academy sounds too broad. It sounds like when you click on the link it'll take you to a club that teaches you math, science, history and english. Not just writing skills. Like I said before, I don't mind whatever name you guys choose, but if you go with Dark's suggestion, then we may not attract too many members. If you want short and to the point, remember my suggested "Writer's Academy." But hehe, whatever everyone chooses is fine. ^^;; I do agree that needing a personal invite is excessive. Perhaps a simple post count requirement? That would keep people new and ignorant of the site out, and help prevent spam, but still allow those who want their writing to improve in (without the leaders seeing they may want to improve and sending out an invite). Forgive me for not commenting on you match, Howl and Jecht. I hope to when I get some time, but for now it's hard to even set aside time to write this post I have so many other projects I need to tackle! *bites nails* |

And what of the amazing writers who join on a whim?
I've never been fond of post requirements for that reason. I know it doesn't happen very often these days, but every once in a while, there is an EXCELLENT writer who joins the site who gets nothing but shat on everywhere s/he goes because s/he is new. I don't want us to be one of those clubs. Entry should be based upon an example of skill, not too unlike The Masters. New applicants should be able to be given a topic and a setting, and write their characters into the Academy (or Guild, depending upon what name we finally settle on) as their entrance exam in a single, in-club introductory post (ex: new members posts saying they'd like to join; we give them a layout of the scene and what characters are there, and ask them to introduce themselves via RP). If the post is good and solid, we let them in. If it's weak, we either turn them away and suggest they practice more, or we take them in if they've got potential and help mold them into better writers. I had a club a while back that focused on teaching people better writing strategies for roleplaying and battling based upon their personal strengths and weaknesses. This was years ago, and it never really got off the ground because it was in the dull spot between all the old veteran writers and our fresher ones, such as the lot of you. If "The Academy" sounds too broad, "The Guild" is, at the very least, a bit more fantastical in nature. We can build off of this and give it a proper name of sorts if you'd like.

Yeah, I remember that writing club. I was a member of it, and it was sad that it didn't take off very well. I hope this one does well, though. There are a good decent amount of writers that have very good potential.
And yea, Cesar brings up a good point about the good writers that join on a whim. I think the Intro RP post into the club is a good idea. And as far as a name goes... How about The Guild of Scribers? or.. The Scribe's Guild. I think a scribe was an old fashioned term for a writer, right? Or something like that..

Ah, that's a good idea to replace the postcount rule. Awesome idea. As for the Name, I really like xeim's "Writer's Academy" I don't know if many people saw it, but it's a pretty good name. If we are making the switch from purely RPB to the general topic of RP once we're all set up we can see if we can start one or two club rp's, although right now I know everything needs to be changed, so we'll have to wait, but I think having both topics of rp and rpb might attract more members. I have a good feeling once Demonia is done setting itself up (with the new name that has not been agreed upon yet) we can start running smoothly again.

Im cool with "The Academy", as Loco said but going against it I think that name does put the "t" on what we do. This club was always about the teaching side not battling and putting "Blade" on the front just seemed a bit... unnessesary?
Kinda gave it a "brotherhood of the blade"-like feel too... Like Toph said we need to sort all the problems now, so we dont have any more arguing at the start of our shiny new thread. Hopefull this will be right in time for me to open the Celestial tournament too. Go joint leader Aimee, it's your birthday ~does dance with hands~. Edit- Oh crap, I forgot to comment on some things lol. I don't like the post count idea, In fact I think its stupid. That doesnt judge anything apart from well... How much you post. I do like Loco's thoughts on doing an example of skill thing... like the masters... It just makes somuch more sense. Thanks, Aimee. Last edited by Hyzenthlay; 09-08-2007 at 03:33 AM. |

I take it this place died... We stopped all the battles and things...
I think this place died because of a lack of things to do... Could be wrong but talking about thinks isnt as fun as doing RP's and RPB's, it gave us all things to talk about. Anyway, I have finished the Celestial Tournament and I will be posting it up soon. Thats for those of you who are still interested, I'm sorry it took so long. I was making things that could happen and planning ways around character types. I think I have planned it quite well. Thanks. Hyz.

It died because we're supposed to decide on a final name for the new thread and come up with a final draft for it. DH, Aerif, You and I are supposed to be the four co-leaders of this place. So one of us four is supposed to be the first poster of the new thread.
Who's it going to be? This place is far from dead, people are just waiting for the new thread.

Oh, okay. Right you are Toph.
I'll go write the new thread shall I? Then I'll edit it and post a link to the Celestial tournament and such... Had we agree'd on Writers Academy then? Forgive me for asking but sifting through to see isnt an optio0n because I'm at college and it's monitered. Thanks, Aimee.

Well I think it's time for me and Jecht's RPB to be judged. I asked him via PM if he wanted to end at 5 posts apiece or keep going and said it was up to him, and he said something about leaving it to the judges.....
Whatever the case, I'm tired of an RPB that doesn't seem to have any set structure, so yeah I think it would be good to call it judging time now. I hope that made sense, I'm feeling a little mentally gone.

Well if you got invited, then that's cool. You can join and be included in the ranks. There's no reason why you shouldn't be. So why not? You're in as far as I'm concerned.
