Do Women Really Talk More Than Men Do?

The traditional wisdom says that women talk all day long while men, like the real wise a*ses they are, will share a bit of their precious knowledge when the right moment comes...

What do you think about this ?

In my opinion..Women are more prone to talk about interpersonal issues, and indeed, in a relationship they can talk more, triggering certain stereotypes. "There have been some studies to suggest that during emotional conflict, guys get quiet and women talk more. Even though the tendency of males to "clam up" in these private disputes doesn't carry over to other social contexts, people may generalize that men are withdrawn by nature" !

If there is one thing I know about women, is that they love to talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.... and continue to talk.

I ring up my mate like once a month, after 20 minutes or so we run out of things to talk to. Where my mother would ring up her friends daily and speak for nearly 2 hours just about nothing... how the hell can you do that? I doubt all women are like this but they just go on and on and on about anything, if something happens oh boy will they here about it.

It's my experience here that guys and gals seem to talk pretty much the same amount. Just about different things. While the females I know tend to be more serious, the guys I know for the better part just want to talk about stupider things, achievements and how funny random things were. Then again as with most things like that there are many a guy or gal that don't fit either category. It depends on the people in question.

Well, there was this recent study I remember seeing on the telly (mighta been the paper, but I'm not sure now) saying that women don't actually talk significantly more than men and that it is more or less equal on the whole.

But from personal experience, work especially, it's the women who carry on and all the guys are pretty much droning on (in the mechanical sense) in a grim, stultefied silence. Depressing, really.

I think it's more about subject because after a good movie and a new game is being released that i'm excited about I can "geek out" and ramble and talk for hours same with my friends.

Women do the same just their "geek out" is about something we don't care to hear about. Like how some bitch looked at her the wrong way, or a good deal on more useless crap they need to smear on their face.

I'd say it's even cause i've ran into girls where it's like I have to pull teeth to get more then "yeah" out of them.

The people I know talk about the same amount, but just about different things.

I talk to my female friends about anything. I talk to my male friends about ALMOST anything.

Personally, I'm just an hoenst, slightly blunt person, so I'll talk about certain issues if I feel the need.

The girls I know are more prone to talk to me about things and lead it onto another subject once we're done with that conversation.

The guys I know are more likely to talk to me about music or games. Occasionally, we swap problems and try to help each other out.

I talk to more guys than girls but all in all, I think they talk about the same amount.

They same thing happens with my mother, She speaks for nearly 3 hours about everything [ Food, Marriage Problems, Current Situations, latest news and everything in this world ]

I think girls talk more, but guys talk more when they talk to girls too

I've met some pretty annoying guys in person who just wouldn't shutup. Back in highschool, he'd keep bothering me and poking me in the back during class, saying stupid things. I tried to give him the good ol' silent treatment, but ended up responding in some way anyways.

Oh and on the internet, usually it's the guys that write more crap in their posts. But I do believe that as for the rest of the majority, girls do talk more than guys do.

I have made a life of being laconic and stony-faced, but all in all I'm a decent listener. I listen to people talk and listen to what they say. From a brief check of all discussions I will relate the following facts:


The most comfortable gender to approach me and talk have been male

The gender that most often(6%) have talkative members that will not stop talking, regardless of who too, female.

I have met eight male persons who, since my introduction to them, have never stopped talking.

I have met countless female persons who, since my introduction to them, have never stopped talking

Besides myself I have met countless male persons who would not speak in my presence or in the presence of others.

I have met twelve female persons who would not speak in my presence or in the presence of others.


From my observations, Girls do tend to talk more than males. But what one must understand is my perspective. First off, I am male and that means I am less likely to relate to what females say than that of my own gender. That tends to make dialogue between girls all the more...noticeable.


But anyway, from what I can tell, yes girls are more talkative. Because more often have I had a girl tilt her head in confusion when I wouldn't willingly leap into a conversation with them. More often I have had girls say: "You don't say much." or "You sure are quiet."


Anyway, take my observations with a grain of salt. I don't know that girls are more talkative; they just seem to talk more to me.

Also, a rather obvious Coda to my previous observations, Males typically seem to type more in posts than do females. That too, is a personal observation and may or may not be accurate.

I am like Winter on this one. I can talk to a friend once a week fro about 30 minutes and finally run out of stuff to talk about. However, every female that I know can talk every single day for countless periods of time. I don't see how they can do that. I would have to make up a whole batch of sh1t just to find extra things to talk about. I once heard a saying about women and their gossip: Tell a woman, tell a friend, tell the world.

I think girls do talk a lot more then guys, but it really depends to be honest. I don't see many guys that have that sorta "He's my best friend" kinda relationship, where as girls have loads of really close friends that we often contact to keep that relationship strong. I also think guys are quite happy to just listen rather then speak.

I've met women that don't say much at all and then I've met the women that don't shut the hell up. There's alot more of those women than there are of those men.

I agree with what you're saying Winter. Women can talk and go on forever!!! Seriously though, I have to either hear my sister or my mom talk on the phone about what happened on Depserate Housewives or who's cute and stuff. Even when I'm like on the other side of the house where they're at, I still hear them talking.

I'm not really a talker to be honest. I'm a little bit more quiet then talkative when it comes to talking to my friends. The only things I talk about to my friends are about school, girls, parties, random things, and being stupid. But I guess it really depends on the person you know. Of how they are in social situations and stuff.
