Microsoft admits their 360 is faulty.

I think this headline will say it all

"Microsoft facing US$1.15bn Xbox 360 repair bill"

That's not nickles and dimes...

Source!

(Thanks to ElMikeTheMike for finding this.)

heeheh yeah it's quite typical, I have heard a lot of people complain like when they first came out the discs kept getting scratched, just quite typical of Microsoft... in fact a problem with all large companies really, mass production makes stuff lose quality imo. Oh well, my PS2 is 6 years old now and haven't had a single problem.

It's not surprising that the Xbox 360 is faulty, it was rushed so everyone could buy Gears Of War for Christmas, not to mention they rushed it so it was released before the Playstation 3 so people would inevitably buy that console instead. It's always been a faulty console, a friend of mine gets slits and scratches in his games discs like every week. The games are good but the system is kind of crappy.

Mine busted a few weeks ago, its a launch unit too so its from the extra faulty ones.........but I'm so lazy that I still haven't called consumer service yet for repairs. But I guess its an overall lazyness since I haven't touched the Wii since I finished Zelda(a couple of months ago) and currently I've been playing DBZ Tenkaichi 2. I still haven't finished FFXII....what the hell is what's wrong with me.

I've had mine for over 6 months now and I've had no faults or problems with it. The discs are fragile, so they're more susceptible to damage.

I always keep my console horizontal, and never move the console with a disc inside. Doing so is asking for a ring of death. (ring on the disc.)

That doesn't surprise me at all actually. All of the systems pretty much have their faults and problems over time. That's a lot in damages and faults though isn't it? Haha, I am very glad that I didn't get one of those things. I can't really afford it anyway but still, who would want to pay that amount of money for something that might be just faulty? I don't like the idea of the discs being fragile either especially for the price that they are at. Oh well, that's there problem isn't it? Maybe they should take more time to make sure their products are up to standard!

The discs aren't made by microsoft though. They're fragile because they're dual layer DVDs, not just because they're 360 games.

And not everyone's 360 is faulty, like mine, for instance. Sure it's only been 6 months. But at the same time.... it's been 6 months.

I heard from many people that own the X-Box 360 says their X-Box 360 starts having problems after they've had it for a year to a year and a half. Really sad to spend all that money and end up flushing the money down the toilet on a bad consle. You would think after they consle been out for 2 years Microsoft would try to fix the problems, guess not.

Well, I got mine for christmas recently, so don't go thinking my model is one of the first wave models that are buggy and all that stuff. It probably has had some issues fixed, because mine has never overheated at all, whatsoever.

I'm not saying that all 360s are like mine, nor denying the problems. I'm just saying that my own console hasn't taken such defects yet.

Not sure if this is accurate, but I read somewhere one a site I went on about a couple days ago that 33% of people that own an Xbox 360 encountered problems with the console. Its low, but then again million of those things were shipped out last year so its still pretty high. And on top of that, its just crazy. That's a lot of money though for the repair bill.

Indeed, and I seem to remember a lot of MS fanbois saying that the PS2's main problem was it's inreliability
My PS2 is 2 years old now, it has a crack in the rear from a fall, some things loose inside, the laser came loose once or twice yet I've never had problems with my games. I think the PS3 will be just as reliable Sony <3

But yeah, that disc issue on the 360.. That's just... just.. plain idiotic, what if you are playing your favorite game a late evening and your clumsy, drunk friend stops by to invite you to a party. Of course he trips on one of the wires and your game goes bye bye. I can't belive MS never bothered to fix that, even though we all know MS. I'm really glad I didnt get a 360 as I intended.

Oh and if rumors are correctly, there are people who have their 12th 360 now, 12th!!! damn! I haven't had that many Playstations, PC's AND computers alltogether.

360 consoles are manufactured in three plants -- one in Korea, one in Thailand, and one in Mexico. As such, since all consoles from one plant were defective (they haven't stated which), it seems appropriate that the 33% average is the number that shows up in the polls and research and such.
