| One of the guys from Sony mention this earlier this month or last month. But they realize that they do not have the install base to hold exclusive titles. I don't know, I think if they actually did have exclusive titles it would push the console more. But it is probably also on part by the game companies. Like GTA being on both now, rather than first on the PS3. Which would probably sell consoles.
But that aside, I think it was Rockstar that was saying that since the 360 does not require a HDD in their console it makes them a weaker system. Because you can cache the game to the HDD on the PS3, making improvements on loads and load times in general. Most owners of 360 have a HDD I would imagine, but all companies making games for the 360 are required to have their game run without the need of the HDD.
That aside, there are still games coming out that have people talking. The most recent is LittleBigPlanet, which stole the show as GDC. And it still has people talking. Metal Gear Solid 4, is a huge a title for the PS3 and will definitely pick up people. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII will get people to buy PS3. I know that I am waiting for it for those two specifically. Grand Toursmo 5 has a big following as well.
There is Killzone 2, though with the whole pre-rendered issue from a few years ago. A lot of their steam got killed, but it is still big title. There is the new Rachet and Clank game that was announced. I don't know how popular it is, but they are always solid games. For RPG fans there is White Knight Story. Lair is a also a popular talked about game and looks be a lot of fun. Probably not so much like Drakengard, probably more like Panzer Dragoon, I think that was the game where you were on a dragon the whole time.
Heavenly Sword is the next-gen God of War from what I can still. I don't know if it is going to be good or not, but Andy Serkis is working on it, Gollum. There is a lot of talk about Warhawk, for those that like shooters and flying. Drake's Fortune is from the people that made Jak and Daxter, though probably not as much buzz, it should be a good game. More realistic this time and not like Jak and Daxter, so who knows how they will do. I was looking through the list of games and there is apparently a new Jax and Daxter game for the PS3 on the way as well.
The way I see it for Sony, this is going to be a building year for them. They need to get people to buy some consoles and develop a larger install base. Then from that they had buy those exclusive titles again. I think we will be seeing more exclusive titles in the end of this year and next year. Things that will make people want to buy a console. There are a lot of games coming out for it, but there is just not the standout ones yet.
I already have a list of games I want off of the PS3 when I get one. It will be FFXIII that sells me the PS3 and then all of the other games I want that will tell me that I made a good purchase. I'm looking forward to White Knight Story, The Last Remnent, Trusty Bell, and the other RPGs that will be on the console. |
