Do The Nintendo DS play original gameboy games?

ok its my b-day today and im getting a DS i think a DS lite and was wondering will it play my original gameboy games? i know it plays gba games but i wana know about the old original ones.

No it does not. That would almost double the size of the DS because you need a whole other processor. Plus Nintendo assumes if you have GBC games, then you should have a system to play them already.

ok thanks ill make sure not to loose my gameboy sp then i just didnt wana buy a ds and loose my sp and not be able to play my games.
