Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales

So I was at work a couple days ago when I was printing out updated copies of the "Reserve Now!" lists (lists which show all upcoming titles available for reserve at GameStop/EB) when I noticed a little something on the Nintendo DS list.

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales.

Now, I made a promise to myself to research this title prior to reserving it partially so that I know what I'm getting into and mostly so I know how to sell the reserve to FF gamers who frequent the store.

Here's what I've dredged up so far:

It seems to be a mix of FFT:A and KH:CoM. Your wonderful little chocobo farm gets sucked into the world inside of a book, and the battles are all card-based. Don't get me wrong -- I actually enjoy card battles. Baten Kaitos, anyone?

All the same, at this point, I'm not feeling too impressed with the title.

I went to IGN in search of more information.

The game is unbearably cute, but I like it. The character models take on the same style of those from FFT and FFIIIDS, albeit slightly different (more like FF:CC, actually). After checking out all of the screenshots and a couple of the videos, I have more hope.

Then, I stumbled across a hands-on preview of the game. I know the opinions of critics can't always be trusted, but I'm starting to feel more fond of the title already. It looks like a lot of fun, and sometimes that's all a game really needs to be entertaining. I'm LOVING the additional use of the DS microphone -- not many third-party titles utilize that yet.

Then, at the end of the article, I saw my favorite part: ONLINE PLAY.

Thanks for the links, Loco. This looks like an interesting game I must say. The graphics do remind me so much like FFIII. I think its about time that the chocobo's finally got their big break in an FF game. Now their the main characters based on the information I read.

Everything looks really good though. I'm really surprised and looking forward to getting it whenever it comes. I'm not really too fond of the card-battle system, but the mini-games and the online play sound really cool.

Oh you are SO on!

Honestly from the footage of the game, it looks really fun. I also dig the old school remixes. But online multiplayer , yeah count me in!
