| I am nothing but a torch |
Hello everyone. This is my first created thread. The question is in your opinion which Final Fantasy had the BEST battle system, and which Final Fantasy had the WORST battle system? In my opinion the best battle system would be Final Fantasy X-2 , and the worst battle system I say is Final Fantasy 7 .

| | [b]OLD SKOOL ALERT! NED TELLS THE TRUTH![\b] Best FF Battlesystem: FFV Reason? It wasn't the quickest, but its the only ATB that made sense to making speed the source of turn order. Other FF battlesystems just make the gauge sprint faster other than expectation (sometimes the slowest character goes first) Worst FF Battlesyste: FFXII Reason? Never played it before, but. Why would you want an auto battlesystem for? Why not just stick to more action than just standing there and waiting for a stupid gauge to fill so you can attack while eating a baked pie? That just goes to show player= very lazy and RPGs battlesystems were lazy to begin with. | ||||||||

| | I think you meant to post this in the General FF forum not the media forum. As far as best system goes, definetely FF Tactics. Customizable characters, Job system and completely 3D terrain battles. Worst: FFII. So much tedious "leveling up" and hurting your own characters. I hatred how you had to select a command over and over again just so that it could do decent damage against the enemy. Or you had to hurt your own allies to get them with more HP. Quote:

| | well FFIIj had BY FAR the worst leveling system ever devised. sure it might've sounded good on paper - you only level up what you need - but it becomes an endless cycle of attacking your own party members and swapping MP with low level monsters to powerlevel. and it STILL isn't enough to make it to the end boss. god, too bad i ****ing love everything ELSE about that game so much.... but i don't know if that really counts as a battle system. i don't think it's very fair to say FFT has the best battle system - as the entire game is nothing but the battle system. from the core series ATB seems to be the preferred method of madness. but maybe you should be more specific about what exactly you're talking about when you say 'battle system.' there's the magic system, the skill system, and the leveling system which are all kind of parts of the bigger whole when it comes to monster battles - when you say 'battle system' i'm assuming you're talking about just the flow of battle turns?

| | Best would have to be Final Fantasy V or X-2. The same element appears in both games, the ability to swap jobs/class is great. The worst would have to be 10, it made the battles way to easy most of the time but I guess it's a good system if your new to the franchise. Final Fantasy VIII's kinda sucked too, I hated "drawing" Magic. It took ages! | ||||||||

| | Best : Final Fantasy XII. By Far. Why? I never get sick of it. The whole random battle thing got so obnoxious after a while, I never wanted to level higher than I had to. With 12, I stay interested... Simple as that. Worst: FFVIII . Junction this! All I have to say about that. * pees on FF8 * I just didn't like it. No real reason why. Just hated it... Sorry to be short.

175 | For me the best one is FFXII, and the worst is FFI (the game was great an I enjoyed completing it but I hate when six or more monsters keep attacking one after another without u doing something bout it) I also love the system from FFVII and X-2

| Wicked | The best FF battle system by far was FFXII. Why? Because it eliminates the random encounters and the screen does not black out when you battle. I like the normal system, don't get me wrong, but it was a nice change to the FF series. Not only that but you can easily get addicted to the battle system and do some major level grinding in the game. FFX-2 would be a close second though. It seemed really fast-paced and action-oriented compared to FF battle systems. One of my least favorite battle systems in FF history I must say, would be FFVIII. Its a great game but this is what it lacked. If it had a better battle system maybe I would've liked the game though. Its a great game, but yeah. Drawing magic, made it too easy getting the high-leveled spells and the junctioning sucked and yeah.

| | Best: Final Fantasy IV Simply great. The fastest characters' speed gauge fills first and whoever's turn it is you choose which ability to use. Also your characters learn their abilities by leveling up. Worst: Final Fantasy XII Boring and hard. You couldn't control all your characters if you didn't switch your party's leader all the time. Due yto the Gambits sometimes a character stopped right before attacking in order to use a spell or something like that. Even fleeing from the battle sometimes was harder than it should because the fiends would hunt you down or attack you while fleeing. Personally I can't enjoy this battle system at all. When I heard that it was going to be different than the oldest ones I thought that it would be something like Kingdom Hearts, but apparently it wasn't =(

Putting the KH battle system(which I love too) on the FF series wouldn only kill completelly the title(cause KH is more like an action rpg, like: -there's a boss, let's beat the crap out of him(then we pound on X) and FF is more tactical) About not being able to control all characters,.... Maybe u can call it a downfall, but still I love this system. Last edited by Final Fanatic; 03-02-2007 at 02:46 PM.

1,131 | My favorite battle system in an RPG would have to be Grandia II's. There's no words to describe how fun that battle system is. It's fast-paced loaded with all different kind of moves and techniques. III's is similar but slower paced, and ironically, Grandia I's pace was even slower. My least favorite would have to be Unlimited SaGa. 'Nuff said.

| | I would have to say VIII has my favourite system. A lot of people complain about it but I don't think it's bad at all. It might be a little confusing at first but you get used to it. It's very handy and I love the idea of drawing magic. It doesn't always take very long if you convert items you have to a certain magic. I love it! The worst would be X. It was good but it was rather boring for me. When I first started, I was really confused about it and didn't touch the grid at all. You get used to it quickly but it's not very intere | ||||||||
