| Yay For Pushy Entertainment Services! | | So today, I got an offer in the mail from Columbia House, which they called my "second chance." See, I had ended my membership with them in December, and they'd sent me something similar last month. In their letter to me, they were like "we sent you an amazing offer a month ago, but for some reason, you haven't replied yet!" Here is the reason I haven't freaking replied yet; I get DVD's, even when I don't order them. They send you these "Director's Selections," which you have a month to decline, although sometimes when you decline them, they come to you anyway, I've found. You can send them back, to which Columbia House will respond by lecturing you about canceling the thing on time.
Also... they called my house, trying to get me to get some DVD's, in order to help me to get to my quota (you're supposed to order 4 regularly priced DVD's within two years after you first join. They don't have a huge selection, either, and a lot of the ones I would want would fall below their "regularly priced" mark.) I said yes the first time. Then, they called back a month later, and I said "no." They called back again the very next night, I think. I was like "fine." ...I hate that. I told them as much, too, when I canceled my membership.
Anyhoo, something similar happened recently. Electronic Gaming Monthly called and asked me if I wanted to order a three year subscription from them. I said I'd think about it. They asked if I wanted a year subscription instead. I said I'd think about. They hung up. Then, they called me again the very next day with the same deal as the day before. I ultimately said yes.
I suppose I could just say "No, and never call here again." I should probably do that the next time one of those businesses calls. Anyhoo... opinions?
