Ah, yes. Once again, it's the 14th of February.

So, do you like this, the mushiest of days? Are you bitter about it, or do you just hate the corporate side?

Or, do you love to celebrate the spirit of St. Vincent, who was hung on this day for his lover? Balloons, flowers, the whole shebang?

Or, are you like me, and like the day just because it's an excuse to have your partner buy you something?

Personally, Love Day doesn't happen for my boyfriend and I until tomorrow (today's his birthday, he gets defensive about it being his day rather than Love's day). I only like it because it's an excuse to guilt-trip said boyfriend into purchasing a CD or something for me, and because making cards with crap found in Pound King is quite fun. And I'm a fan of Organised Mush, on occaision.

So, lovers, what say you?

I don't celebrate Valentines. We have this little tradition in my house where we give each other jokey cards each year, basically taking the mick out of the whole occassion. I'm a big believer in love being show every day you're with your partner, not just one day when you go "i'm going to tell them I love them". I guess thats my view, coming from one of the unloved nerdy kids at school who was never given anything on Vals day! XD I still wish everybody a good day, and I can imagine it being a nice day if you have a partner, to make that much more special effort on them. However, i'm single and am going to drink the night away with a pot of tea and some crumpets!

I like Valentine's day to be honest. Its good for that one day to just show love to thew person that you care about. Besides burning a hole in your pockets, its good to just be with that person that you care about. Usually, I don't get into it, but this year I am for some reason. I do believe that love should be shown everyday like Storm said, but just the fact that its Valentine's day makes some people get more into it.

I think comedian Jim Gaffigan describes Valentine's Day well. As he puts it, St. Valentine must be the patron saint of overpriced greeting cards. The time where you give either the gamble chocolates that could be either really good or completely nasty (ah man! I got the toothpaste flavor, I'm gonna have to eat 9 more to get rid of the taste!) or you give the chalky, heart shaped antacids.

"I know I make you nauseous, here's a Tums with hug me written on it."

Ah and then there's the tradition of greeting card giving:

*looks for greeting card*

"Hmmm, yeah that sounds like something I'd say, I'll just put my name here on the bottom."

*gives greeting card*

"And there ya go! You like what that other guy wrote in there? It took my five seconds to find it. It cost me two bucks."

I'm single though, so not much for me to do on Valentine's. Last Valentine's Day I spent with my friend Laura going out to eat, hanging out and renting a movie. We were gonna do the same this year, but she couldn't make it into town unfortunately (though she sent me a card in the mail aww). This is the first Valentine's I'll be spending alone in awhile, since 2 and 3 years ago I spent with my ex girlfriend. There is a Valentine's party I know of going on, but I'm not exactly in the mood for that either.

More than likely I will probably just do what I do every night, drink and play videogames. Honestly, that's not so bad if you ask me.

Valentine's is one of the most fake holidays, like something made up by greeting card companies. If I did have a special lady, I don't need a specific day to take her out and have some fun. My mom got me a little card and some sexy heart boxers though.

Regardless, Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I really don't care about the holiday, to be honest. I'll greet friends and respond with "Happy Valentine's Day", but it's not something that big to me.

I used to be part of the bitter side ... not necessarily because of its corporate aspect, but because of people flaunting their relationship. It still bothers me to some extent because I really don't need to see it, but I just kind of ignore it now, lol. But I'm pretty much completely over it now. I had a boyfriend for a short period of time and found the entire thing to be a waste of time and pretty pointless. Maybe it was just him, but since that, I couldn't care less for romantic BS or feeling jealousy over others. I'm really happy being single, which some people can't understand but w/e lawl.

There is, however, a pretty cynical flash swf that I found last year that I found amusing and still save. I'm not bitter about St. Valentine's day...
To be honest it has no meaning to me whatsoever. I have no one to dote on, so therefore Valentine's Day is just another holiday. It may, some day, come to mean something very special...but at present it is little more than getting chocolates from my friends.

Oh! I forgot to say that on St. Valentine's day my friends all get chocolate for everyone! I get Ghirardelli, Math gets Hersheys and Chris-Chris gets Russel Stover, My parents both get Dove chocolate..

I AM INSANE for Ghriadelli Chocolate! It's almost as good as a Carrot Cake! Almost...

My boyfriend and I don't celebrate this day, for reasons on both sides.

I enjoy the myths and stories for this day, but it's really not my thing.

I don't hold it with bitter stance, although I dislike when people talk about what they're doing to me, constantly. I really don't want to know.

It's not being bitter; although I am really upset that my boyfriend and I haven't spoken for almost a month. On the other hand, I've never really wanted to hear about love-fests, y'know?

And yeah, I spend it alone every year. Why? Sad ****, I guess.

Nah, to be honest, it's because I don't really care about it that much.

Yeah I agree with most people here, I'm not bitter about it all, It doesn't bother me one bit that I'm not spending it with somebody. I honestly don't care at all about Valentine's Day, and I guess I should be glad I don't have to spend any money on presents, flowers, movies, food, etc like I have had to do in the past!

I've received a Valentine's card though, so that made me happy plus I got a hold of the new Radical Dreamers arrangement so all in all this has been a GREAT day despite the fact that I have nobody to spend it with.

In the case of a lot of Girlfriends, you do HAVE to buy them stuff. Otherwise they'll scratch your eyes out like evil witches and then withold sex!

Eh, I have my demanding side, but I'd feel bad if I demanded a gift for birthdays or xmas... so I don't. Of course, I do always have that inkling of hope that he'll think about me those days.

But yeah; I don't need material posession. A heartfelt "I love you" is enough for me.

Spending money is okay as long as it's for the greater good of cheapening Valentine's Day.

For example: This year, I bought my girlfriend a "Sex for Dummies" pocket book. In my personal opinion, it cheapens everything that Valentine's Day is about and therefore, is an excellent Valentine's Day present. I don't know what she bought me yet (mail takes a while), but the devilish quiver in her voice and her pride in the gift suggests it's equaly as demeaning if not moreso.

Last year, we played the anti-money spending game and sent each other home made cards with cheap and sleazy pick up lines. Mine was made from a page I tore out of the Satanic Bible. What else is it good for? Making something look like a piece of crap is about all I can think of for it, so it worked. I was very proud of that "card".
