A trend in this thread has been most of you "metal" people defending yourselves saying that not all of you run around screaming "I LOVE SATAN" at the top of your lungs, as the stereotype goes. So how do you sit back and then stereotype others, Catholics in this case? I guarantee that many Catholic priests do not molest children and many are not corrupt, just as many metal fans have half a brain, as I keep being told. If you don't want to be stereotyped and to have the posers of your group represent you then stop doing the same to others. It's REALLY simple.

Because it is for amusement, just like you act gay to me (unless you are serious, in which case I would ignore you altogether)... we see what they show us thus we make our comments, we know that the poser Cradle of Filth and CoB fan boys are a bad representation of what we listen to thus we mock them perhaps in hope they get ashamed and looking for other stuff so in a few years they can go look back and laugh at themselves or something along those lines. Also frankly I think it would be great to see more people shouting "Hail Wotan!" or "Hail Cernunnos!" or even "Hail Global Holocaust!"... which a few people do amazingly enough!

There was some guy with a picture of a demon eating a crucifix on his shirt.
Ok so my friend does likes Black Metal but he is very religious, he is a Christian and very proud of it, eh carried his Bible everywhere and stuff.
As for me I do love Christ and I am a Christian myself =]
But still I don't get why some people who listen to those type of music are so against god.
My guess is that they're really mad with their lives or something that they decide to take all the blame to god and that way the hate starts.

Well, a lot of metal sub-genres (parts of the black metal scene in particular) tend to take an anti-establishment stance, raging against the system. In Scandinavia which has a very strong Lutheran church which is the state religion of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, with more than 80% of the population being members of the Lutheran church, Christianity is very much part of the system.

Personally, I'm not really that much of a church-burning, priest-killing anti-Christ. I don't really like the organisation that the church is, but I don't have anything against the individual Christian and my views on organized religion really doesn't have much to do with my taste in music. I'm as happy listening to Trouble as I am listening to Pentagram or Pagan Altar.

I'll put it quite simply, because this discussion seems to be dragging on monotonously.

Black Metal/Satanic Rock/Heavy Metal/Death Metal (any kind of heavy rock music which visualises and talks about worshipping devils and demons, I don't know all the ridiculous genre titles) annoys me just as much as Christian Rock. Whether these would-be Satanists are serious believers, mindless trend-followers or just folk who listen to the music for their own entertainment, I don't really care. Each to their own. We all have opinions.

But people who seriously rant on about how dark and Satanic and evil they are - they're equally as mind-numbingly irritating and boring as those who rant on about their Christian morals being superior to all other systems.

In a musical fight between Creed and Cradle of Filth, they'd both lose.

Wait, did you just compare music fans to Catholics? I find that hilarious. Catholics have been ****ing up almost as long as they've been around. Take a look at some of the stupid shit they've done over time. These are historical events.

There's a little bit of a difference between historical archives and stereotypes. You keep falling back on the child molestation, but you are failing to look at any of the other points that I'm making here.

Only a real tiny proportion is about worshiping Beelzebub, there is more about worshiping Odin and the Goat Empire ye fool.

Black Metal is about laughing at jews who got gassed, making fun of black people who tag in the back of their books whilst badly drawing upside down pentagrams. Did you know that they actually followed through with their beliefs too? Ok so I made the last part up, however the music is much more than just worshipping gods and nature. There is a deeper philosophical understanding behind it and fu ck all the Nargaroth kids trying to turn it into a joke. Black Metal is more than just a type of music, it is an Artform, a way of life. Also isn't it odd how some of the so called Agnostic/Atheists always try to side with the Religious nuts in philosophical debates.

Take a look at some of the stupid shit those who claim to be Satanists have done over time. It's the same thing.

Historical evidence states that most Catholics pursecuted other peoples a long time ago. Historical evidence also states that most white people persecuted non white people a long time ago. To hold that against current Catholics (Or Christianity as a whole if you choose to relate it that way) is no different than demonizing the descendants of white men for what their ancestors did in the past (which some idiotic people do). It's not Bill the Catholic, born in 1980's fault that other people who have been Catholic were assholes. To assume he's the same as them is stereotyping and in this case you've chosen to link it to historical evidence, not me. And even for those that persist on persecuting non Christians: That's still not Bill's fault, he hasn't persecuted anyone.

And that is the tone that many of these so called Satanists take. I'm by no means saying all, nor am I saying you. However, it's the idiots that desire to represent you, ironically as the idiots within Christianity desire to represent them. It's completely understandable to be against the Church. I'm certainly no fan of any Church (note the capital); however, I don't relate it to the people that choose to follow the faith. In my opinion, people should be measured by their actions, not by what other people of their religion has done. But hey, you think what you want.

Perhaps it's because they're against neither position, but are against intolerance and stereotyping and there have been far more anti-religious threads with those characteristics as of late.
