So, there have been two occasions in my life when I have been the "designated driver." The first time was when I was like 19 or 20, and my brother was in town, so we were hanging out with all his old friends. That time was fairly uneventful. The second time-last night-I drove my brother, my cousin, and their two friends from work down to the bars downtown. At first, I was just going to drink the free pop given to the designated driver. Then, I was offered to have one beer, and then wait for an hour or so before I drove home. Then, I was handed a flaming doctor pepper, and then given the last of some beer that was in a pitcher. So I decided we should walk home from there. I probably wasn't that bad, but if I got pulled over, I would be bad enough. In any case, my cousin and my brother are cool. I love them and they love me, because we are brothers. Like this. Anyhoo, one of their friends was pretty mellow and cool, too, and a pretty cool guy to hang out with. The other guy, however, was an absolute idiot. I'm not sure if this was because he was drunk or if because he was just like that. He kept on saying shit to people throughout the night, though. When we first walked in, there was this old guy sitting there, and he said something to the old guy, and the old guy was like "I'm not an asshole. Are you an asshole?" Later on, he knocked a cigaretta out of this girl's hand (she was holding it over this fence thing, and he was walking beneath it.) Her and the guy she was talking to seemed pretty annoyed about it. Then we went to this other bar, where they'd stopped serving beers, and he yelled "fuck you!" at them because of it. Later on as we were walking home he was elbowing me in the chest a little bit, and saying "Stop touching me! I didn't know I was walking with a faggot, here!" I decided it would be best not to respond at all, and just kept walking. He also kept on falling down and rolling around on the ground. He also scraped along the rail of the bridge we crossed with what I believe was a lighter, and as we were walking past these bushes, he was falling around in them, pulling leaves off and throwing them at us. He also kept on trying to wrestle with the other guy, who was like "I'm not gonna wrestle with you." The idiot also kept on walking a little bit behind me. I don't know if he as doing this on purpose, but it made me feel rather uncomfortable. I think this other guy knew him the longest; he was later talking about how when the idiot's ex broke up with him, she tried to get a bunch of people who worked there to beat him up in the parking lot. Personally, while this might be terrible to say, I don't know if I could blame her. I sincerely hope I never hang out with this guy again. In any case, I obviously failed at being the designated driver the second time. So... does anyone else have any "designated driver" stories, or thoughts or opinions on being the "designated driver?" Not really the most fun roll, is it? Also, since I went on about the idiot for half the message, if you have opinions on him, you could talk about him too, or people like him (such as that guy I complained about who hung with us about a year ago). I doubt there are many members who are of age yet to be the designated driver, but eh *shrug* Anyhoo... Wuv, Yer Mom

| An RKO Production... | No designated driver stories but I did have to call an ambulance because an idgit friend of mine drank over one and a half fifths of Bacardi 151 then came over to my house and downed a bunch of my sipping brandy. ...Oh sure he had a designated driver...but it wasn't me! EMTs are expensive designated drivers too, or so I hear.

1,536 | My friend's brother, aged 14, drank too much and had to be carted off in an ambulance and have his stomach pumped. My friend went along for the ride. She spent the whole trip trying to get the paramedics to sleep with her, while her best friend's little brother was rolling around with alcohol poisoning. Oh haha. I bet the paramedics were happy to be drivers that night... I don't drive and don't drink with anyone who does, so I have no driver stories. I do, however, have many tales I could recount of people being complete twats when drunk. Sadly, many of them feature yours truly among the main characters. Taco, your idiot sounds like a lot of people I know who drink too much too often. The difference is, the people I know are mostly aged 14-16. I must admit though, your story did make me 'lol', especially the bit about him rolling around in the bushes. Oh, drunken idoicy. ****ing twats.

5,305 | I haven't been in my hometown or area and near any sort of hard liquor with friends, so I haven't had the "opportunity" to be a DD. I've only been drinking in college, and I don't have a car down here ... so my friends end up being the ones driving if we decide to go back instead of pass out for the night. As for any related stories, I guess ... friend was talking earlier about how his older sister is pregnant now and so he has a designated driver. Brent and I thought that was horrible and convenient at the same time, lol. No special stories on the way home after drinking I guess. Other than Brent trying to keep some guy from touching me? Hurr. EDIT: Unfortunately, no stomach pumping stories from me. And "designated drivers" for me always drink anyway but are good drivers, haha. Last edited by Misa; 02-05-2007 at 08:39 PM. | ||||||||

I forgot to mention earlier that when they were first doing the flaming doctor peppers, this girl was asking everyone to do it, and I told her I was the designated driver. She gave me this incredibly dirty look, and I was just thinking to myself, "I'm sorry...?" But then I was handed one anyway. Heh. Anyhoo... We also walked down the wrong side of the bridge, apparently, and got talked to by a police man. I guess if you walk down the wrong side, you end up in the center of the highway, apparently. Heh... ![]() Wuv, Yer Mom

| Genocide Unfolds, I Forgive All | My best friend drinks too much for me to want to hang with him when he's drunk. I've been invited along on ocassion. Admittedly, my friend stays the same when he's drunk, so his personality doesn't really change, but at the same time, I don't drink, and when I do, I do it at home. I wouldn't be anyones' designated driver. I don't hang out with drunks. I'm cool about a few cans of beer and the like, but I'm not going to go crazy about it. Moderation, people. Last night I had two pretty big glasses of advacaat (which has low alcohol content anyway), but I guess there was too much advacaat in my drink... . And then my brother poured out a cup and gave it to me, so I had a few drinks and felt pretty drowsy. It didn't make me act any differently, asides from the fact I was laughing a bit more than I usually would.I'm just glad I wasn't out and drinking. Not that I would've been anyway. But yeah. Most of my friends do weed every few weeks, but don't really drink a lot. Designated drivers, to me, seem like they're being taken advantage of by drunk people... Of course, I've never been a designated driver, so I'm not entirely sure about the latter of my "points."

| | I wish I had some good designated drivers story, the thing Is I can't legally drive and my friends drive drunk too much. Well actually when my brother was back in town, he and his friends went out bar hopping late at night, and they asked me to pick them up even though I can't legally drive. I agreed it to, the bar was only about 5-10 minutes away, and a pretty straight drive so I had no problems. I guess it was better than trying to have them drive home because they were shitfaced. Definitely would have gotten into some shit if I had pulled over for some reason though. ![]() I have more drunk driving stories than sober ones though. I don't drive, so in high school I was always getting rides home from people after parties. Typical occasion: Me: "Hey Devin, want to give me a ride home now, it's like 2 AM? Devin (already drunk): "Hold on let me bong these two deuces then let's go." So needless to say, I drove with drunk or sometimes completely shit faced people on a regular basis. Most of my friends were great drunk drivers (or lucky ones I guess), Devin was a little shaky that night, swirving a little bit, but I made it one piece. My friend John was the worst, I didn't trust driving him with sober, but one time I drove drunk with him and he rear ended a parked car. Afterwards he mumbled to me in his drunken state, "Let's keep this between you and me." Then, he drove off. Another time, he drove into a ditch. Needless to say, I don't exactly trust driving with him anymore. I think it's important to point out that there are almost nobody in my group of friends who have escaped trouble. A lot have DUIs, or DWIs or the like, many have MIPs too. Now a days, they take turns to who is being the designated driver to avoid trouble. Luckily I have a clean slate, as my friend's dad says about people who can't drive "Drink until you can't feel feelings!" Haha..what a guy.
