Not really looking forward to it???

Well I know there hasn't been much information about FFXIII in general. There's few information about the three FFXIII titles, but based on some screenshots, it doesn't look like I'm really gonna go crazy to get it. A few years back when FFXII was announced, I was really psyched and definitely looking forward to playing it. I waited impatiently over the years andthe more I heard about FFXII, the more I wanted to get it. I've been hearing a lot of talk about FFXIII too, but I'm just not psyched like I was compared to XII. Is it possibly because I have FFXII and I'm caught up in it? Or maybe I just think as ehh.....? Who knows, but does anybody feel this way about it?

I know it is what all people think, but FFVII and FFX were sort of the games that everyone judges future title from since they are front runners on the new system. Both games showed off the power of the new console, FFVII maybe not as much as it could have but it looks pretty good all the same. FFX did however show us a lot of what the PS2 was able to do. So from that stand point, I'm so psyched up by FFXIII that I used to watch the trailer everyday. I'm interested in seeing what Square can do with the PS3. Something else I'm excited for is the gameplay graphics coming closer to the FMVs. Now obviously as technology increases you can get more crazy detailed with your FMVs, so they will always increase like the normal gameplay does. But FMVs I think are at a point that they are going to look so high quality that you are going to be hard to find the differences soon. Gameplay graphics still have a long way to go to meet that point, so the gap between to the two will constantly decrease over the years. So that alone as me excited, because I want to see Square use the power of the PS3.

Since I don't know much about their story I can't say too much about how much that is going to get me psyched about it. It is going to be interesting though taking a more science fiction theme. It will me like revisiting FFVI and FFVII which were more sci-fi than fantasy at times. Though I think that FFXIII will be taking more sci-fi themes than previous titles. It reminds me a little of Star Ocean, which I love, so that is a plus. The combat system has me curious and makes me feel like it is going to be more cinematic than previous games. Before it was you attack and I attack, standard tradition. Here it seems that you queue up attacks and say that you are going to do all of these things and the character then does each in order. This allows for possibly a more fluid fighting. Though it does bring up the question, where will the enemy respond and if you are low on HP and have 5 attacks queued up what happens then. I imagine that it is not as simple as that, but curious none the less.

I'm only really interested in FFXIII since it is the only one that is going to be a RPG, FF Versus XIII is done by the KH team, and I do love myself the KH series, but RPGs are the mainstay. So I don't know how that will go over with me. FF Versus XIII will probably be a lot of fun, but not a RPG. And then Agito is well, a cell phone game, so not going to be available in the US and I won't have a phone that could handle it anyway.

FFXIII has me wanting it right now. Some people don't like Nomura for whatever I don't really know. But Sakaguchi is gone, so it is not like we are going to get anymore FF from him. I have been pleased with the KH games and the FF games so I don't have a problem with Nomura in control. I do wish that Amano did the art work still, because Nomura's is too digital for me. Unfortunately all Amano does these days it seems is FF title logo's.

Well, honestly I'm not looking forward to it too much. The gameplay, as Andromeda mentioned, is looking more cinematic, which kinda worries me. It wasn't perfect, but the menu-based battle system was one of my favorite aspects of the FF series. I like the fact that I have a moment to plan my attack instead of have to queue up random shit I don't even know if it's gonna work. I was worried about that with FFXII seeing as it's somewhat more real-time based, but when you open the battle menu, it stops so you can plan... it doesn't seem like that's panning out to be a possibility in FFXIII. Don't get me wrong, I love action games, just not Final Fantasy action games *cough*Dirge of Cerberus*cough*.

Final Fantasy XIII, in my opinion is related to Christmas morning now. When I was 7 years old Christmas was great. I'd be excited the night before and rush down the stairs the next morning to presents, and candy, and a big family breakfast and a day with the relatives (which are all dysfuntional now).

Final Fantasy in general is neither exciting, nor pleasing to me anymore since this new team of game engineers has taken over. I did like the sci-fi theme to Final Fantasy VII however, it was how they pulled it off. It was quirky, and easy to grasp. Final Fantasy XIII looks like something out of a Star Wars movie, and I'm sure the complexity of the game as it appears will take away from some of the fun-factor.

Unless the story line is incredible much like FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII then I'm afraid Final Fantasy will never be the same for me again. Once technology passes a certain point, gaming in general will never follow what FFI, II, II, IV, V, or VI was about. So much like Christmas, Final Fantasy... especially XIII, just doesn't excite me anymore.

Well I'll say this; I figured FFXII was going to be real crap from watching the videos and hearing the way the changed the battle system, how ever I have heard it is the best Final Fantasy since VI (Which I don't believe as VIII is the best in the whole series imo) and I have not heard a single bad word about it. I have yet to play it but judging this I predict that FFXIII will be a great game. X was good but had a weak story line, so I would say the main FF's should be the ones with a lot of work put into it and if they keep it up I doubt FFXIII will be bad, I am guessing it may be better than XII but I have yet to see.

I don't know what the actual changes are in the game but as long they keep the turn based factor and the ability to stop to chose your attacks then I don't mind. I don't want to see the series completely stray from the Original path but repeating the same system over and over gets quite old after a while. A few changes don't hurt but not a completely new system would absolutely ruin it. Just my thoughts, FFXII doesn't come out here for another month yet.

FFVII (I never saw VI, so I can't say for sure about it) was a total departure from the previous games in the series, if for no other reason than the improved graphics and control capabilities of the Playstation. FFX was another departure given the increased capabilities of the PS2. While both were more graphics abilities than anything else, they ushered in a new way of developing and playing Final Fantasy. The turn-based battle system was and is a hold-over to the older versions of the series.

As the technology improves, in graphics, animations and in control capabilities, the way these games are developed and played must change. The eye of technology is ever on the future, not the past.

Think about this. How well would a turn-based battle system work in a virtual realm where the player actually participates in the battles (even if they are assuming the role of a character in doing so)? Could you see yourself "standing" there and waiting for the other players to have their turn and not becoming impatient?

And before you say that this is beside the point, think about it. This is the point! The day is coming when games will be virtual and we will play the game "first-hand", not through a controller and looking at a screen. (Holodeck here we come)

FFXIII is just another step in that direction, as is XII.

In a sense, yeah you're right. All of that which you spoke of is inevitable. And FFVII was a major leap from the previous Final Fantasys. I guess it's just HOW it was different is what caught everyone off guard.

When I said "gaming in general will never follow what FFI, II, II, IV, V, or VI was about" I was really speaking in terms of the envolving storyline, and feeling you get when playing the game. I don't get that feeling anymore when I play FF now, and the storys are dull. I guess I like there to be a little bit of everything like in FFVI... war, death, love, an epic story, fun yet serious, dramatic yet kiddy at times.

Oh well. I guess time will tell.

In those terms, I can agree that the storylines have changed, especially in how you "get" the story. I haven't done an indepth study (yet), but it seems that each new game has more and more NPCs to talk to. From some of the things they've had to say so far (in FFX and FFXII), it seems that much of the story is wrapped up in the tidbits you get from them. Also (as is the case with XII), since the "world" was previously developed in a different version of the game (Tactics in this case, I believe), some of the history may be found in the earlier version of the game.

I think much of the story is to be found in the things the NPCs have to say. I plan to follow this path in a different playthrough after I finish the one I'm currently in. That said, it would probably be helpful if SE included more character-related FMCs (sp?) to fill-in the gaps in the character's stories.

So what is Final Fantasy Versus XIII? Is it a prologue to XIII? Or a sequel already in the making when XIII hasn't even come out.

Reference movie:
http://61.195.57.11/members/special/...us13_Movie.swf

I must say the new XIII trailers have me second-guessing my original opinion of the game. The whole atmosphere is dark, and futuristic in the new trailers. Very Final Fantasy VII-esqe so to speak. The music reminds me a little of FFVII too. It's a possibility since the the game had the hands of some of the makers of FFVII:AC that this could be the closest thing we could get to a sequel.

The Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII project is currently comprised of three games. Each game is not a prequel nor sequel to one or the other. All three games take place in different worlds and history and will have a story unique to its own. The only thing in common the three games have are the title "Final Fantasy" and a common mythos, that is the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" which means "the New Tale of the Crystal."

I'm still confused but thanks for the reply. I don't understand the purpose behind a "three game" game

It's like the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, except all the games aren't related to the original game's plot.

That just doesn't seem... hmm, interesting to me? The trailer for Final Fantasy versus XIII is what peaked my interest. THAT title looks fun. It's techy, and dark. The original Final Fantasy XIII trailer is what made me turned off by the game.

I was looking forward to it, until I saw it was going to be on the PS3. That sucks, because I can't afford to buy one any time soon.

Feh. But I will get it. So far, the trailers have me intrigued.
