Will the Battle System ruin it?

I was persuaded this game had a new, unique battle system after purchasing the demo. I was recently informed by an friend that the Gambit System involves you assigning how the characters fight but you can't control them unlike the demo when you can actually attack the enemy.

Is this true?

(NOTE: If this topic has been used before, I apologize. I failed to locate one with a similar topic.)

You have the ability to costomize how you want the characters your not controlling to fight, this is what square calls the gambit system. You can have the choice of turning the gambit system on and off. Meaning you can controll the characters manually or not its up to you. Its just there to make your FF experience a little easier.

I have the demo. I love the battle system. And I was playing an older version of it that they have improved upon. Its really cool. I still wish they had gone with more of a kingdom hearts battle sytem. (Harder than kingdom hearts though. its too easy)

As for the gambit system. Anybody that has ever played an MMORPG will have an easy time with that. Its a lot like setting Micros but for your other characters.

I don't think the gambits will affect the battle system and ruining the game. The battle system seems simple and it gets rid of the random battles. And if it was a killer then in Japan it wouldn't be a hit.

I think this new battle system is for the best, in my opinion, because random battles were fun and all but after the tenth one they just started getting annoying, and after every boss fight, I would always cherish the whole victory scene, since it doesn't come up that often in FFXII. The battle system also reminds me of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I don't think the game would have the overall same feel to it if the battle system were any different. There's just something about it that fits the mood of the game. I know that doesn't sound like it makes much sense, but it's true. Without the new battle system, I think the game would suffer.

It's pretty nice, though it's not something that I am head over heels for. If they use it in future Final Fantasy titles, I won't complain, but I'd rather see them come up with something different (which I bet they will).

I'll tell you what I love battle system... I hated the random battle especially when I was in rush to get to a place.. and I agree with Alucard.. battle system fit well with this FF..

When I first bought the Japanese version of FFXII last year, I was skeptical of the combat system, simply because I hadn't translated it appropriately, so it confused me. However, after buying the english version and playing it, the system is so much easier to understand.

The gambit system does not prevent you from controlling the battle, as you can do that even while it is on. But it allows you to interject when necessary to take certain actions, when the actions your prioritized do not work the way you want them to. It certainly makes battles more bearable with the gambit system than without it.

It is new, unique? Well, it is unique to the FF series, but I'm 100 percent positive this type of battle system has been out for awhile now with alot of online games. There is a gambit system which is basically like watching the screen, as your characters do stuff, while you just move the your characters every so often to fight. Gambits can be useful, but I prefer to have no gambits on he "leader".
