Best actor in Lord of the Rings

Well a whole bunch of superstars are starring in this film.(such as Vigo Modersen, Ian Mackelen, Elaja Wood and Orlando Bloom). Who of them is your favourite or you like someone else from the movie? My favourite actor was Ian Mackelen, who had to play a difficult role but he did it. He was the most suitable for the role, i think.

Ian Mackelen is fantastic in this trilogy, I agree. But I also think that Sean Astin (samwise Gamgee) was great. Especially at the end of Return of the King. Very emotional lol

Well, out of all of the actors in Lord of the Rings, I would have to say there were a few wonderful actors/actresses that I would choose to be my personal favourites! Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Liv Tyler, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, John Rhys-Davies, Orlando Bloom.. well most of the actors in the Fellowship! Most of them were very talented and amazing. I loved them all!

Christopher Lee was excellent as well, he is a very talented actor. He nearly always plays a villain! He's awesome. There were a few others I really liked too outside the Fellowship, Liv Tyler (as I already mentioned), David Wenham, Hugo Weaving, John Noble, Bernard Hill, Ian Holm, Miranda Otto, Cate Blanchett... and the list goes on.

They were all wonderful in my opinion. I can't just pick one!

I pretty much like everything that Ian McKellen has done. I think that he is a really great actor and portrays characters in a very life like and believable way. I think that can be hard to do in movies like X-men and The Lord of the Rings where the characters have trials that are unlike any trials that people normally have.

I also really like Christopher Lee that guy is awesome. He plays some of the best creepy characters and Saruman was defiantly a great role for him!

While I really enjoyed the performances of the entire cast, I really think that Sean Astin far and away gave the best performance in the entire trilogy, specifically for the Return of the King. He totally got snubbed that year at the Oscars for not even getting nominated for Best Supporting Actor. That pissed me off.

I also thought Sean Bean's performance at the end of Fellowship was really emotional, and... good, good for lack of a better word to describe it. My brother thinks it's the best performance in the entire trilogy. I dunno about that, though...

I thought that the Andy Serkis was really good - his portrayal of Gollum was just so convincing, he's a truly awesome actor.

Sean Astin, hands down.

To be able to consistantly and accurately protray such a gentle, honest creature that's been swept up in these wordly events is more difficult than people realize. Astin portrays not only the simple nature of Samwise when faced with the complexities of Middle-Earth, but he also portrays (to perfection), his unwavering courage and loyalty to Frodo with such an honesty. To this day, when Sam carries Frodo up the side of Mt. Doom, it puts a tear in my eyes - and I've seen the film at least 25 times.

WHAT!!!??? Ok I can understand how if you've only seen a little of the trilogy how you could dislike Sean Bean's character, Boromir as he is somewhat, but not really a villain. However I thought Sean Bean's performance was excellent and very much deserves to be recognized.

Kinda funny how nobody has really picked Viggo Mortenson for this...I don't think he had the best performance in these movies either, but he was one of the mainstream favorite characters.

Ok, well when I thought about this question for the first time, I instantly thought of Sean Astin. GREAT actor and he did a helluva job in the entire trilogy. Andy Serkis was the second one I thought of, as his character was probably the hardest to portray, and he did an excellent and convincing job as Gollum/Smeagol (slinker/stinker lol). Ian McKellan was great, Hugo Weaving made an excellent cranky old elf. So as I think more and more about this question I'm not actually sure that I can fully answer it...maybe if I break it down by movie? Yeah I'll give that a try.

In The Fellowship of the Ring I would have to say it's a toss up between Sean Bean and Ian Holm (Bilbo). Both were great in this movie and unfortunately neither is really seen much in the other two films.

In The Two Towers I would have to say that Elijah Wood and Sean Astin did the best job. Though they were great in all three movies, nobody came close to their level of performance in this film.

In The Return of the King it gets a LOT harder....Sean Astin was at his best for sure, but I think a lot of people have overlooked Dominic Monaghen's performance in the third film. His character undergoes a lot of changes and has to cope with them as best as he can, and Dominic did a helluva good job portraying that.

Anyway, if you're still reading this.....you have too much spare time. But if I really had to vote I guess I would say Sean Astin. Would've been a lot faster if you had just scrolled down huh?

Christopher Lee by far.

His knowledge of the books is utterly astounding. He was the only person out of the entire cast to have ever met Tolkien, and he also had Tolkien's permission to play Gandalf should they ever make a film of Lord of the Rings.

Christopher Lee is also one of the only people to actually be able to speak Elvish. Peter Jackson says that he never even had to direct Christopher Lee, as he knows his character inside out.

Christopher Lee's performance dwarves all others. He is the personification of evil in that film. His voice commands respect, and he pronounced everything a great deal better than the rest of the cast.

Hail Christopher Lee!

I think Orlando Bloom did a great job. But Sean Austin did a very good job at portraying his character.
