#1 311 - Galaxy

This song is AMAZING on so many levels. It starts off with a dropkick right into your face with one of their heaviest riffs ever, then busts into pure rap/rock bliss.

#2 Collective Soul - Heavy

This song shows just how diverse and talented Collective Soul is. It's so fucking powerful that it could knock you on your ass, and such a departure from songs like December and The World I Know.

#3 Crazy Town - Change

Their second album, "Darkhorse", is so much more evolved than "The Gift of Game"... it's more down to earth and less stereotypical rap/rock. This one song in particular stands out to me because it shows them opening up in a way they never did on their previous album. Sure, Shifty said he wants a nice girl on the first one, but in the same breath he was bragging about his skills in bed... this song really changed my outlook on them and made me love the music even more.

#4 Depeche Mode - Barrel of a Gun

This song is what really got me into Depeche Mode. It's so dark and just head poundingly deep. It starts off with an amazing beat and just never lets go.

#5 The Dillinger Escape Plan - Baby's First Coffin

This song is yet another that grabs you hard in the first second and never lets go... when it busts into that softer part... it's such a glorious transition... then BAM, it grabs you by the junk again and holds on till the end.

#6 Dir en Grey - OBSCURE

This is the most brutal song I have ever heard in my life. Starts off kinda eerily then BOOM, it thrusts into one of the most simplistic yet headbang inducing riffs ever recorded. It gives me goosebumps of awesomeness whenever I listen to it.

#7 Dream Theater - The Glass Prison

This is one of the few songs I have ever heard that manages to stay unbelievably heavy for an entire 12 minutes. John Petrucci is GOD.

#8 Everlast - What It's Like

Posing or not, this song is fucking glorious. It's got a damn fine beat, excellent guitar work, and one hell of a story to tell. I don't think I've heard a single Everlast song that didn't catch my attention 100%.

#9 Gackt - Mizerable

This is the only song that whenever I listen to it, it brings me to a catharsis of tears. I love it. Not only that, but if I could ever figure out that bassline I would die a happy man.

#10 KMFDM - Anarchy

I only have one thing to say about this song. YAY GERMAN INDUSTRIAL.

Although this thread is very similar to the "What's Your Favorite Band?" thread, I guess it's different enough that I'll allow it... so long as it doesn't get too spammy. I'd like to see more posts like Musa's, there.

Anyhoo, the way I order my top 10 constantly changes, but here is how I list them today.

1. They Might Be Giants: Birdhouse In Your Soul

The first song I heard by them that I loved. My favorite song for a few years in childhood. Love the randomness of this band. Runner up: Man It's So Loud in Here

2. Five Iron Frenzy: Cannonball or Solidarity.

I've heard people say that FIF's last two albums were no good. I disagree, however. I think they've become my favorites, actually. Cannonball is just a cool song, too. Solidarity is off their third to last album, however, but it's still an awesome song.

3. Erasure: Fingers and Thumbs

This was my first Erasure song. It's not one of their huge hits, but it was a single, and it's awesome, in my opinion. I got the single and love all the remixes. Runner up: Run to the Sun.

4. Smashing Pumpkins: Tales of a Scorched Earth

I'm not completely sure if this song is my favorite of theirs, but it's generally the one by them I listen to first when I want to hear some Pumpkins. Runner up: Marquis in Spades

This is where it gets tricky...

5. Less Than Jake: Dope Man or Look What Happened

I never heard Dope Man until last year (or at least recognized it.) I realized it was a really catchy song, however. It was going to be their first single; they made a video for it and everything. Mtv wouldn't let them air it however, because of its subject matter... Look What Happened is just a cool song, makes me feel nostalgic.

6. Jimmy Eat World: Lucky Denver Mint

The first song I heard by them. My brother put it on a mixed CD for me. Pretty cool stuff, I guess. Runner up: Sweetness, maybe.

7. New Order: Bizarre Love Triangle

That's song I still call my favorite (of all songs) to this day. I don't know if it still is, but I still think I love it. Haven't listened to it for a while, though... Runner up: Regret

8. Reel Big Fish: The Set Up (You Need This)

I love the semi-disco feel to this song. It's a lot more up beat than a lot of their other stuff, too. I especially love the guitars and the horns at the beginning of the song. Runner up: Alternative Baby

9. The Ataris: Hey Kid

Yes, I still like this band. Mostly for their old stuff, but I admit that I liked their last album, too, after I gave it a chance. I don't know if they've ever been straight punk, but they'd always been fun. The lyrics to Hey Kid ring true to me, too, and I like the off-beat guitar at the beginning of the song. Runner up: ...I dunno... I Won't Spend Another Night Alone? *shrug*

10. ALL: Skin Deep

I first saw (or heard) these guys at a show with the Ataris, and I knew they were awesome then and there. The "side project" of the Descendents, kind of (although I think they have more albums and tour time than the Descendents do) they put on a cool show. Skin Deep is another one who's lyrics ring true to me. Runner up: What Are You For?

Wuv, Yer Mom

My top ten bands are always changing, and are always really connected with the times..

1. Beirut - Postcards from Italy. I like this song so much.. it reminds me of the good times that I've shared with my special someone, and it always puts me in a good mood. It's absolutely amazing. Horns and strings... you feel like you're in hawaii, swaying to a tropical breeze. Beautiful!

2. Death Cab For Cutie - Brothers on a hotel bed. I love the poetry in this song.. "and you may tire of me/as our december's sun is setting/because i'm not who I used to be" "no longer easy on the eyes/these wrinkles masterfully disguise/the youthful boy below" "and now he lives inside/someone he does not recognize/when he catches his reflection on accident." The piano is also really amazing.. that song.. hit me hard the last time I heard it.

3. The Decemberists - Odalisque. Beautiful accordian, wonderful guitar work.. Lyrics are quite haunting.. "Lazy lady/had a baby girl/and a sweet sound it made" Colin then goes into a croon that really gave me shivers the first time I heard it. Amazing!

4. HIM - In joy and sorrow. Great stuff. Really romantic.. very beautiful. Ville Valo has a wonderful voice, which i've always admired.

5. The Postal Service - Nothing Better. I like the duet thing they have going. I wish my arguments were nearly as articulate as theirs are!

6. Bright Eyes - First day of my life. Another one that has to do with sharing wonderful times with that special someone. This song just has so many neat little romantic sayings in it. Always a fan of acoustic guitar.

7. Feist - Gatekeeper. Well.. Mostly anything done by Feist. She's one of my favorite female vocalists. She's exactly what I need some nights. Most of her stuff is really mellow, and a bit jazzy.

8. Incubus - Aqueous Transmission. Neat little exotic instrumental, and the vocals are cool too. These guys show their range with this stuff. Sitar, with some interesting lyrics.

9. Belle and Sebastian - Funny Little Frog. Again, another band that I like most of their work. This song is just a neat one. It's almost like you're having a conversation with the singer. soft guitars and soft vocals.

10. Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By. Beautiful Song.. very sad though.. It's a slower one, and is actually part of the soundtrack of a darker part of my life, but i'd still say it's one of the best songs i've heard in a long while. I could listen to it over and over.

Well.. that concludes my list..

Edit: 300th post! weeeeee!

Strangely, many of my favorite bands are quite new. I have no distinct favorite, so heres my ten favorites:

1) The Futureheads:
Their first album was spikey and energetic, with crazy 4-part harmonies thrown over the top. The second album was more melodic and paced, but still with the 4-part harmonies in the band's Mackem accents. Both are great, and I have a few favorite songs. For my favorite I will probably choose Decent Days and Nights as it shows what The Futureheads are like in all. Spikey guitars, changing lyrics sung in a catchy way, and one of the most contageous guitar riffs i've ever heard!

2) Franz Ferdinand:
Dancable indie with a "bass beat that makes you move". You know whn you've heard this band because of the distinct guitars and basslines. Alex Kapranos also has a distinctive voice. For my favorite song, it has to be the indie club classic, Take Me Out.

3) Boy Kill Boy:
I want to massacre anyone who thinks of Fall Out Boy when I talk about this band, as Boy Kill Boy are millions of times greater. As a new band, they automatically became distinguised to me because of the fast guitars, the howling synths and the great voice of Chris Peck. My favorite song from them is Back Again, which shows Chris's voice in the finest, and the greatest balanance and interesting instruments. It has a slight Muse-like feel to it, which brings me onto the next band...

4) Muse:
One of the most easily recognisable bands ever, with Matt Belemy having one of the greatest voices i've ever heard. He sinngs in a semi-permanent falsetto, which works unusually well for an alternative band with strong guitars (well... in a lot of songs anyway). My favorite song is probably Hysteria, which has that distincly Muse feel and an interesting video to go with it.

5) Kasabian:
Another band with great synths, though they are a lot different to those of Boy Kill Boy. Kasabian have a really British sound to them, combining indie with a psychadellic feel, making them a bit like Oasis mixed with the Stone Roses, but unique at the same time. Serge plays great guitar. My favorite song is probably Cutt Off, although I have no distinct favorite. I like Cutt Off because of the the continuous beat which carries the song, through the flute of the verses and the guitars of the chorus. The video just completes it with that flying shark!

6)Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Theyre a popular bunch, which hasn't degraded my respect for them. They've been making great music for years, and they keep the same traditional RHCP fell, even when songs are completely different, IE. Californiacation and Give It Away. Californiacation is probably my favorite, with the nice riff, and fluid guitars.

7) Maximo Park:
Never have I heard a band like Maximo Park. Their songs deliver poetic lyrics with strong emotion and meanings, but cloaked in the case of fun and energetic instruments. Paul Smith sings in his geordie accent, which makes their music even funner. Paul's on-stage acrobatis make their live shows even greater, and keyboardist Lukas throws in his fair share of dancing. My favorite song is probably Going Missing. for a song about being on the end of your tether and wanting to escape from the world in a voyage or via suicide, it sure is fun and catchy!

8) Mystery Jets:
The barmy brits from Eel Pie Island in London can get away with the most no-brained lyrics by having such interesting backing music. Having a song with a chorus which consists of "you can't fool me dennis" repeated several times sounded a little cheesy to me at first, but it was catchy and the instrumentation was really interesting. Lyrics on other songs, such as Soluble In Air, are much more poetic though. Zootime has to be my favorite though, as it shows the best diversity of sounds, tunes and instrumentation than any other of their songs.

9) The Automatic:
I have no idea what goes through their heads when they make up their lyrics, as they arent the most well-written ones ever, but they are so simple they stick in your head. The instruments are fun and funky, and choruses sometimes go into 3-part harmonies. My favorite song is not the famous "Monster", but their debut single "Recover," due to its funkiness.

10) Kaiser Chiefs:
Another barmy british bunch, with crazy singing and instruments along with their trademark "oooooooooooooooooh" during at least half of the songs on the album! The lyrics are more well-written than the likes of other mad bands like Mystery Jets and The Automatic, although they remain sillyness. "I come back stronger than a powered-up Packman" having to be one of the silliest! My favorite song is Oh My God, as its a lot more rythmic than a lot of their other songs.

Too many to choose from!

#1. Guns n' Roses - November Rain

I remember the first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it. Some people find it to be overrated but I don't think that at all. The lyrics are meaningful and the guitar solos in it are breath taking. The video clip is great as well. I also love 'Don't Cry' by Gn'R.

#2. Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer

What an awesome song! It pumps me up everytime it comes on. I love a lot of Bon Jovi's stuff. This song is a lot of fun to hear and it's just a great rock song over all. My Mother is even obsessed with it.

#3. The Doors - Riders on the Storm

This is just a really cool song. I have The Door's greatest hits but that song doesn't appear on there, it's a shame really. I also like 'The End' and 'Break on Through'. The Doors were a great band in their time. R.I.P Jim!

#4. Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

This is probably my all time favourite song by The Beatles. George Harrison was awesome and wrote a lot of fantastic songs. He was very talented. I love the tune of this and the guitar playing.

#5. Rolling Stones - Paint it Black

Another classic song. I have always liked this song, even as a child. My parents used to play it a fair amount. It's really catchy and the tune rocks.

#6. Queen - We are the Champions

Another song I have liked since I was younger. It's just a great song to sing.. especially if you're favourite football team or cricket team has won a game or final. Hahaha, Freddie Mercury was fantastic! R.I.P!

#7. Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You

One of my favourite bands! This song is great to rock out to. Gene Simmons is great hahaha. Everytime I hear it, I get it stuck in my head!

#8. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird

Another classic rock song! I only started liking this a couple of years ago thanks to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. My favourite DJ 'Tommy the Nightmare Smith' aka Axl Rose played it on his radio station. What an excellent song! Great band!

#9. HIM - Wings of a Butterfly

Ville Valo is ****ing awesome! His voice is amazing and so are all of HIM's songs. I have only started liking HIM recently and I have to say I love them! My Mother isn't too keen on them but I'm sure I'll get her to like them too, just like everything else haha! I started liking HIM because I watch Viva La Bam. Thanks Bam!

#10. Oasis - Wonderwall

Great band, great song. It was in the top 10 songs ever! I saw the countdown on one music channel and I was surprised to see it voted one of the most popular songs of all time. Oasis are a great band in my opinion, they have a lot of cool songs.

There are many more bands and songs I love but that's enough for me.

Lets see

CKY- Disengage the Simulator and Close Yet Far are two of my favorite songs of theirs. I really can't pick one since they are such a diverse band.

Clutch- The Regulator. This, my friends, is a song you should all download. It's a hard rock tale of revenge. Good shit.

Pearl Jam- If you don't know Pearl Jam, just go back to your emo bullshit and blow your brains out. This is one of the greatest bands to ever come into existence. Yellow Ledbetter is one of my favorite songs, but at the moment, Inside Job wins.

Pink Floyd- Young Lust. The song just has an awesome tune to it and the lyrics are also pretty stellar. Time and Them and Us are two other amazing songs.

Red Hot Chili Peppers- They're another one of my favorite bands. However, one of their major hits isn't my favorite song. That award goes to This Velvet Glove. Venice Queen is a close second.

Iron Maiden- One of my favorite bands of all time. They have so much history to them and so much talent and energy. Ozzfest 05 was amazing with them in it. Paschendale is my favorite song of theirs.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- American Girl. This is just a good ole fun song that everyone can enjoy. And if you don't enjoy it, please go back to fallout boy and kill yourself.

U2- This is another great band. I don't care about their politics and what they have said or done. Look at their music, it's great. City of Blinding Lights is my favorite song of theirs at the moment. It reminds me of my fiancee.

Bruce Springsteen- Yeah, I'm just in that kind of mood. The Rising is my current choice at the moment, especially since I just saw that loose change video, and the song is all about rebirth after 9-11.

Foo Fighters- Yessir, the Foos round out my top 10. They're another one of those bands that people sometimes forget about, but they're so awesome that when I mention them, I'm sure people will be like oh shit. Learn to Fly is one of my favorites, but Times Like These takes the cake. It's such an emotional blast. It makes you want to go out and live a little.

Honorable mentions to Johnny Cash, Milk, Audioslave, Lynyrd Skynrd
