I presume that you are speaking about the Dragoon Artifact Armor that you get from 50-60. First you have to be 50 to get that armor, but before that you have to get your Artifact Weapon, which is available at 40. You cannot start the quests for the armor until you have the weapon. The armor is in five pieces, Feet, Leg, Chest/Body, Hands and Head. A piece at 52, 54, 56, 58, 60. So that means you do not have to get all of the armor at 50 or 60. But there are 3 Quested pieces and two you get through Coffer Treasures. Two of the Quested pieces will be 52 and 60 in level usually. You have to get the first piece in order to start the quest for the other piece. In general is best to do the first quest, since most of the pieces require you to have it. The other is a Hand Quest, which everyone does. Where you find the Old Gauntlets varies, but you always have to find a Coffer Key and Chest, then go to Zhavl Castle to kill Dark Spark.

These are usually done with the aid of some lvl 75 or a bunch of your 50-60 friends. It really depends, but the ones at 75 will probably charge you for their services.

Just know that DRG is like the underdog of Final Fantasy XI society. Though they have their own advantages, the general community of XI rate DRG as one of the most least desirable jobs. Most people who level that job now are in heavy pressure of trying to outequip themselves so they won't be look down on by other jobs that can easily perform much better. Maybe a bias advice, but if you do plan on playing DRG, do yourself and everyone else a favor, pimp out your DRG to the max.

It's not an easy task taking on a job that everyone makes negative jokes on. But do not falter my friend, play a good DRG and prove people wrong, k?

Also a little side note, most of the artifacts for any jobs whatsoever, aren't always good and have better alternatives. Keep that in mind and judge for yourself if you planned on wearing the entire DRG artifact set.

Pfft, the only people who don't invite dragoons are the stupid ones. Besides, you don't need a party to get exp. Level white mage to 37 and you can solo with ease, especially 60+. It's better than sitting around in Jeuno all day.

As for subjobs, do /war for party exp. It's the best sub, no contest. /sam used to be better, but these days you'll only need it for gods and other long, drawn-out battles against HNM. /thf is also good for that, but I prefer /sam myself.

Heh. DRG is no longer the worst job in the eyes of the public, PUP is. PUP really does suck all around. I've played with all the highlevel PUP(theres like 3) and they all know the job backwards and forwards. Even though they are amazing at playing PUP, it still sucks in a party. All it is is a gimped MNK with an expensive toy. Its a damn shame that when you replace an all-around great player playing PUP with a half-ass DRK which wouldn't know the backside of a Spider's ass from the front that you'd be getting more EXP per hour... but you do.

As for DRG, they are fricking awesome at damage over time. Their wyverns kick ass and a good pty will feel just as sad as the DRG when it dies. The problem with that is most EXP battles are about quick kills for chains and DoT is the last thing on ppl's minds when it comes to that. Not only that, people are damage biased. They look at spike damage rather than overall damage. Ooooh! That RNG just did 1.5k dmg! ZOMG! Yeah.. well the DRG is the one doing more dmg... the RNG is missing a billion times and its normal hits aren't all that fancy. You don't get noticed for DoT.. you get noticed for Spike damage.

I still fancy the idea of being DRG one day... but sitting in the waiting line does not thrill me in the least. DRG or DRK? Let's take the DRK! DRG or BLU? Let's take the BLU! DRG or SAM? Let's take the SAM! DRG or THF? Let's take the THF! DRG or PUP? Er... DRG! My advice... make your own damn parties.. XD Either that, or get great reputation in another job and they'll add you as DRG just because they know you're the shiznit.

Actually i have found that since they revamped the DRG job getting invites is no longer a problem for DRG, since anybody who knows anything about DDs knows that DRG does damn good damage. Probably the least favorite job (other than PUP) for parties has become THF. I don't know about the rest of you, but the vast majority of the time when I'm LFP as THF, I couldn't get an invite to save my life. Switch to NIN or WHM and I get an invite before I can put my flag up lol. But overall, once you start getting high enough in levels as DRG to where there are slim pickings for people, you will get the invite more often than not. If not, you don't want to party with them anyway, because they're morons.

Almost every party I have been in lately(from 50-65) has had a THF in it, so maybe they are having a hard time elsewhere, but from what I've seen its not any harder for them to get a pty than any other DD. Personally, I'd take a DRG over a THF, but that's me. THF get invited at my level for the sole reason of Distortion SC. Other than that, I find them quite useless above 60. They simply dont have the damage output of other DD jobs. Its sad seeing THFs do 400-500 dmg using SATA DE(the same dmg they've been doing since they got VB and no better with Dancing Edge) which is once a minute then the rest of the time hitting for practically nothing while I can throw in a DRK who can do more than that without SATA plus hit hard as hell on regular swings. By that level, pretty much any DD can do a Distortion, so I really dont see the need for a THF past 60. I'm not picky on parties too much though, as long as it has the necessary things to function correct.

If anything, THF got buffed up hella lot in the latest updates. Daggers' damage upgrade and the sexy new Job Ability merits they can get, as well as the change to Evisceration, THF can now do some pretty sexy damage.

But yeah, like everyone said, PUP is the new replacement for DRG. PUP now makes DRG look more desirable, at least compared to before the release of PUP.
