Eddings

Who has read them, what have you read, and what is your favorite?

I'm a bit of a newb to the Eddings books lol, I only own The Belgariad: Volume One, which is the first three novels. I really enjoyed all three, the writing is fantastic. Definitely among the best I've read so far. The characters are easily the best part for me. As far as favorites...I can't really pick one. They're all excellent. I'm probably going to get Volume Two sometime in the nearly near future.

Oh my god! If I were to compile a list of favorite authors, the Eddings would definitely be in the top three. His writing is fantastic, and has only gotten better over time. And then having his wife co-author his books? Genius! The two of them write wonderful stories!

I have read (And own most of) the following: The Belgariad, The Malleorean, Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress, The Elenium, The Tamuli, The Redemption of Althalus.

I'm currently reading The Elder Gods, which is book one of the Dreamers series. I'm excited about it! I also own Regina's Song, but haven't gotten around to reading that one yet. I really want to get the Rivan Codex. Perhaps when I do that, I'll reread the other 12 related books. I really need to reread the two series involving Sparhawk and friends. I haven't read those in almost a decade. Damn that sentence makes me feel old. O.o

My favorite would have to be Belgarath the Sorcerer. Oh yes, that old man is great!

I have to agree. Eddings is one of the best writers I have come across, but since then ( I read those books years ago) I have found that Terry Goodkind's Sowrd of Truth series, and The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan are also up there on my list of favorites.

Oh yea i love David Eddings! His books are the best! I have 3 of his books: The Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Seeress of Kell and the Redemption of Althalus. The books are sooo well written and carefully crafted to make you read them all the time. I read the Pawn of Prophecy and the Queen of Sorcery in 2 days! man, theyre the best ^^

I have read the books regarding Belgareth, but I did not care so much for the others; the writing style started to bog down with second half of those stories, but it was well worth finishing. The Dreamers are all about the Gods of that world in the first one, but I will always have Polgara and company in my heart first. The Eddings writing team is great-really, they are, but the books after the first seven are rather over-worked-there IS such a thing as too much much of a good thing.

In the end, there wasn't enough sponteniety in their later books-you just get a feeling of being crushed by fate, which is far too depressing for me.

Heh, I never did update this as I intended. I did eventually pick up Belgariad: Volume Two. So far I haven't really looked for their other books though. I enjoyed his books just fine, I just need to be keeping up with more contemporary series. I'll go back and buy the rest of their books eventually.

I also have some sad news, for those who didn't see it. Early this year Leigh Eddings passed away following a series of strokes.

David also managed to burn down about 1/4 of his office, losing the original manuscripts of many of their novels.
