Female Vocalists!!

Here's where you can rave about your favorite female vocalists!

They can be from any genre. You can list entire bands, or just the solo singers, it's up to you..

One of my recent favorites... Feist. She's got a really.. seductive... voice. She's done some work with broken social scene, but has a couple solo albums out as well.

Another... not so much for her voice, but moreso for her quirkiness.. Karen O from the yeah yeah yeahs. She can be really strange, but there are times when I just really enjoy listening to her sing.

And lastly, probably Imogen Heap. She's got a really whispery voice. Her songs have some interesting harmonies in them. Best known for her song in garden state.. "Let go". She has one album out under the band name frou frou, and two out under her name.

And with that, i'm done! Anyone else have any neat female lead singers? I'm always looking for new music!

I gotta say, there's nothing quite like seeing Lacuna Coil live. Christina Scabbia has such a beautiful voice and it fits metal PERFECTLY. I got to meet her once after a show and she hugged me o_o. I can die happy now.

Hahaha. I saw this thread without reading it and thought "the lady from Lacuna Coil" ... Musa, you take the words right out of my mouth.

Except I never met her and never got hugged. I am sad and want a hug. Too bad I don't much like physical contact, even from females, eh?

Anyway, to get back on topic... I also like the lady from Ayreon, who sings that song "Love"... I'm not sure of her name, but I bet anything my boyfriend would know, since he knows a lot about......musical people. (Or musicians. Whatever.)

Also, I want to add Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Chances are, if you haven't heard the Silent Hill 3 soundtrack, you won't know who she is, but she sings in many of the songs in the game, and has a really nice voice. And since Akira Yamaoka was the composer for the game, I couldn't pass up listening to this music. I was very surprised indeed and really enjoy the songs she sings in.

All i'm going to say is that i am now really jealous of you and i want to know how good was that hug? cause i want one .

Anyway i have to agree, christina has one of the best voices i've ever heard. It a shame she didn't win rock goddess in the kerrang video honours. I mean it must have been fixed if she didn't win. I heard her at download and she rocked. Most people are rubbish at live performances but her voice is just so awesome. I'd love to go watching her but its so hard to get tickets.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing as it is not often you see a beautiful singer with a beautiful voice. I love the way she uses her voice on the song "Soul Into Hades", I don't really like the guys vocals henceforth why I never got into them but they are quite a good band

Another girl I feel has a beautiful voice is a New Zealander; Hayley Westenra. I am not really the type to get into her type of music but truth been said it is quite captivating to hear her sing. Another fact is she sung for the Queen, quite an achievement at such a young age.

Other singers that come to mind are Tarja from Nightwish, the singer from The Project Hate MCMXCIX and most female folk singers especially in Viking metal.

Definately Elisa C. Martin from Dark Moor.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned her! If you haven't listened to Dark Moor before then definately check them out. Old Dark Moor though...sadly Elisa left them...
Of course now she is with Dreamaker which is also an excelent band.
Her vocals show so much emotion which is perfect for Power Metal.
Hands down takes the Lacuna Coil vocalist out. In my oppinion of course.

There's another female vocalist I forgot to mention. Lacey Mosley from Flyleaf. Gotta love a girl with that gut-wrenching of a scream. She sounds kinda like Avril Lavigne, but goddamn it both of them have great voices. Only one of them picked the right genre though .

And it doesn't matter how good Christina's hug was. She hugged me, she's hot, I'm a happy panda XD

Yeah that chick singer from Metric also sings in Broken Social Scene, her name is Emily Haines and I love her. Some other singers I adore are Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley, girl can sing and can put together words like sweet poetry to my ears. Also Adrea Zollo of Pretty Girls Make Graves, although their latest outing is less of a punk outing, it's more dance I think I like her tone better now. Also that back up girl singer from the Hush Sound.

Also Haley Williams of Paramore and Avril Lavigne are my guilty pleasures, Avril's voice I think is pretty and goes along with her songs and Haley's voice is upbeat to carry the style of music Paramore does. Oh and Kelly Clarkson I admit can sing wonderfully too.

KT Tunstall has an amazing voice. Like her music or not, you can't deny that she's got a great voice. Or, well, you could deny it, and that's your opinion and your right to do so. I'll just disagree with you.

Norah Jones was mentioned earlier. Good choice.

Sarah McLaughlin also has an excellent voice.

And, for those who love soul, Joy Denalane is like a politically aware Mary J Blige. She's got a good range; she's a fairly unknown artist (outside of Europe, anyway) with a good career ahead of her if she can get the US draw.

Cesar, ahahaha, wow, I love KT Tunstall as well.

Norah Jones is also good.

Also, Eva Cassidy. <3 I'm not a great fan of her MUSIC. But I love her voice. It's spectacular.

Also, Avril Lavigne does have a god voice, but just a shitty image and shitty songs.

One I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet
