Lightbulb Empty treasure chest question (FF1 NES)

My friend told me she read in a walkthrough that the empty treasure chests in FF1 NES version actually contain items, you just have to open each chest in a certain way or order or something. Anyone else heard of this or is it just a hack or a hoax?

Tis but a hoax. I have the strategy guide and it says that the empty chests are a special kind of chest in which each have a twin chest else where in the same dungeon. So when you open the first one the second one will appear empty. It's kind of like two chances to get the same thing.

So what you're saying is, let's say there're two chests in a dungeon with lets say, iron armour, and one is on the 1st floor and the other on the 4th. if you get the one on the 1st floor, the one of the 4th will appear empty, or vice versa?

Yes thats how it works. Because FF I was one of the first RPG's they were not sure how well some of the ideas would work out. So to make sure that people found certain things they created doubles. The odd part though is that many of the double boxes are money. Still if you have played the original FF I for the NES you know how hard it was and it was great to only have to pick up one box insteda of trying to go after both.

There is probably a thread about this somewhere but since you asked the question here I will answer it. I hope the mod's are okay with that.

FF 1 is good and you can still get it for either the Gameboy advance or the PSX. It's called origins and you can find it for the gameboy advanced in many used game stores or new if you look a bit harder also you can hop on ebay and look it up. It's harder to find for the PSX but you can usually get it on ebay for a good price. The game comes as a set with FF II.

I think its a lie because I played the game at least 19 times and I opened every chest in the game in so many orders.

Again, Brachioraidos. They are talking about ORIGINAL NES version. Original version has boxes that are empty, just like FF II. So actually it isn't lie. So, Brachioraidos you are wrong again. FF DoS and Originins aren't only ones that had FF I and II...

No. It isn't SNES version. It is NES version. And I think that you haven't clear original NES version 19 times. And they were talking about FF I NES version.

Once again: FF I is for NES, not SNES. And they were talking about original version of FF I that is for NES. Not DoS or Origins version, original FF I that is for NES, not SNES.

I've been through the true NES version over 2 dozen times. And once recently. I've went through simply to prove/disprove some of the rumors, and you can consider this rumor officially squashed.

I'm telling you it is not a rumor. I have the official square/Enix walkthrough. And it explains right in the book that after you get one of the treasure chests on a level the matching treasure will appear empty. I will write exactly what it says when I am home to grab the book. The guide is for the PSX version not the NES but I don't think that makes a difference.

EDIT Okay I have the book here is what it says

From the Final Fantasy Origins Official Strategy Guide Pg. 38
Duplicate Chests
This dungeon (Marsh Cave) introduces the strange concept of duplicate chests. For example, the chest with the broadsword exists in three different places in B2F. If you get the Broadsword from one chest, the other two chests will now be empty. Keep track of which chests you've opened so you can avoid their duplicates.
