46 | I like them both a lot, but I have to say LOTR is my favorite of the two. I love fantasy movies. Star Wars is good, but I just like Lord of the Rings better.

| | Lord of the Rings by a landslide. There were elements in the movies which I did not like. Peter Jackson removing parts of the storyline and characters for example. This is not THAT bad as such, I know that they can't include everything when making a movie based on such a great work of litterature. But he shouldn't add his own elements instead, there's no excuse for that. I consider those flaws to be minor though, and I still enjoy the LOTR movie trilogy immensely. Star Wars does not stand a chance. It would if George Lucas had not made the disturbingly bad episode 1-3, but unfortunately that is not the case. | ||||||||

| | Dont get me wrong, I love them both with a great passion but to pick one over the other... it would have to be Star Wars by a hair. The only thing that tips the scale for me is... Darth Maul! The BEST character of any movie I have ever seen. They should not have killed him off. Edit- My dad loves LOTR. He has the ORIGINAL books. The Hobbit in gold hardback and LOTR, all three in one book in red hardback. Both ornate with elvish writing and pretty stuff. Last edited by Lord Storm Bryce; 10-22-2006 at 06:58 PM. | ||||||||

![]() And Darth Maul and anything else from the new Star Wars movies is probably the best argument as to why one would pick LOTR over Star Wars. They are atrocities to human culture. Last edited by Sir Kenneth; 10-29-2007 at 06:06 AM. | ||||||||

| | That's silly. Not being as good as the originals hardly makes them "atrocities". Why must people polarize so much in pop-culture? The first one was no great acheivement in movie making, but remove Jar-jar and it's a fair watch. Seriously, if you tune him out it's actually quite enjoyable. The second one, I thought, was really good. Jar jar had very few lines, Anikin got put in his place for being a twat and Obi-wan was a detective. Good battle scenes too. The third one, despite Anakins poor acting, was a treat, really. I don't remember if I answered this thread yet or not. But starwars, by "a hair" as was stated in a previous post. PS: For the record, Darth Maul wasn't killed in the first movie. The thing you have to know about star wars is that Sith have about a 7/10 chance of coming back as a ghost or being reasembled. If memory serves, with Darth Maul, it was the latter.

| | Lord of the Rings, because I'm a New Zealander and I'm biased. But honestly - I think they handled the movies really well. Sure, they left some bits out (Tom Bombadil, anyone?), but that's because they didn't just make a movie version of the book. They read and re-read the books, and then wrote it out in their own way. It's not just a carbon-copy. For example; Faramir. In the book, he resisted the ring right off the mark, but in the movie he had dragged Frodo and Sam half-way to Minas Tirith before he came to his senses. Don't get me wrong, I like Star Wars, I really do. I just like Lord of the Rings a bit more.

| Blue of Blue | I'd go Star Wars. The old ones especially. I saw the LOTR movies and I didn't love them like some people do. I mean they're good but I didn't see what's so special like a ton of people did in them. Overall the older Star Wars which I like a hell of alot more i can always sit down and watch, unlike the LOTR which I have to be in a mood for and can only watch 1 at best in a days sitting and I'm the same with the new Star Wars too in the sense of not being a big fan..but yep that's my opinion. | ||||||||

| TFF Anarchist | Apart from the absence of Tom Bombadil and a few other elements, I loved the LotR movies. I voted for them because of the amount I like them. The movies were almost believable, the acting superb, the costumes and props first class. The fight scenes looked almost real, there was much drama, and the heroes were an unusual motley crew, one who's uniqueness really held interest for me. Then there was Star Wars. Still a good set of movies, but not a set I planning on purchasing any time soon. For the better part, it just seemed a little overdone to me. I enjoyed the fast scenes involving x-wings, tie-fighters, pod-racers and the like, but it did seem overly cheesy more than once. The light-sabers were cool too, but they have nothing on the sword of the king, Sting and all the other LotR weaponry.
