What older ones...? What you mean...?

There have been 6 games before VII and most of them has remakes nowdays...

FF I is first one and classic. Every FFer should play original or remake. It is just classic.

FF II changed normal RPG system. You train your weapons, not stats. You don't get lvls, your weapons get lvls. Magic worked same way...

FF VI is also classic. It was last one that was 2D...my favorite. Those that like VI doesn't like so much VII and otherwise.

I haven't play other so you get more opinions from those who has...
----------------------
Move this to General FF...please...

The older ones are I-VI and considered this because they were played on the nes and snes systems(before psx) but you can get the remakes on the ps1

okay I'll finish off:

ffiii:Unless you live in Japan it is very unlikely you will get to play this game as it was only released there I never got the chance to play and I don't think many other people on the forum did.The only thing I know about it is it features some people called the onion kids, yeah I know strange.

ffiv: A very good game. The main character is a guy called cecil! It had each character having a different abilty such as white magic, black magic, summon ect. Has a very engrossing storyline but is quite hard

ffv: This game introduced the job system,in that you got different jobs(much like dresspheres from X-2) the further you progressed and learned different abilites from them like a white mage would learn white 1,2 and 3 with the higher level spells at 3. It is often underated but is a great game! Is also quite hard though.

No it didn't. Actually first FF had job system. It just was smaller than FF V's job system. But yes, you should play at least FF I and FF VI and little bit different than normal FF's FF II.

FFI - Original, quite basic but still worth playing for any FF fan. You could beat it in a few days.

FFII - Personally I found it quite boring after a while, the main differance is the level up system. The story is fairly basic kind of like Star Wars I believe.

FFIII - Waiting for the DS remake. From what I know this was the first to introduce the Job System properly (on 1 you can chose but you can't decide to change later)

FFIV - Possibly the best FF in the whole series, also very hard but worth playing.

FFV - Underrated, seriously this is quite a good game that doesn't get as much as it deserves. This has the Job System much better but not as good as X-2.

FFVI - Another classic it seems, a lot of people really like this game. I do enjoy it but I feel it was too easy and slightly overrated amoungst old schoolers.

They have all been remade, except III which is due on the DS in October I think. All of them are worth going through and shouldn't take long, also I recommend doing them in order ie 1 > 2 > 3 etc... otherwise you will get rather agitated by the time you get to the first ones.

The original games are still my favorites. There is something about old school video games that just makes me smile. If you have not played the first six games and don't play Final Fantasy just for the graphics I would grab any of the older game that you can find.

I would suggest starting with Final Fantasy VI I think that it is most like the newer ones and might be the best to introduce you to the older games. However my favorite is IV and I still to this day like the story line of IV the best.

**** dawn of souls - it's a fun quick play, but they totally watered it down to the point in which there is no longer any challenge. it's like a single pack of hot chocolate in a 5 gallon jug of hot water - it's that weak.

you can get FFI on the NES and an NES pretty cheep these days - i picked up my copy at a flee market for about $10, a little pricey for a 20 year old game maybe, but worth every penny. just play FFI, it's the best - trust me. it doesn't spell anything out for you, you have to talk to the towns people and figure out what to do instead being ushered through a series of cut scenes as the developers hold your meek little hand.

i have a fan-translated copy of FFII and FFIII on NES carts i got from online. FFII on the NES is absolutely AMAZING. it's hard as shit, which is extremely refreshing. the dungeons are all story related and not too long, while being full of nasty status effects. i'm leveling up in preparation for the final dungeon, and it's still thrilling!

FFIII is amazing too - the OnionKids are just a poor translation of "Orphan Kid" - it's the classless character you start out with 4 of at the beginning of the game. if you ever hear someone complain about FFIII's main party 'looking all the same' you're hearing it from someone who hasn't played past the first 10 minutes of the game. FFIII was the first FF game to have a TRUE class system. you get job points, you can change your class - it's ****ing badass as shit, especially because it's on the NES.

so yeah, i'll leave the SNES games to the 16-bit kids, i'm hung up on the originals. obviously EVERY final fantasy game is worth playing at least once all the way through...

true - but it takes a lot longer to make your party worth while, you can't 'run' in dungeons, or save anywhere you'd like.

not to mention that everything is cheaper, and all the enemies have lower hit points. it's even easier than the 'easy' mode of the FF: Origins version.

are you referring to attacking your own party in order to raise HP? it's hardly cheating - the fact that you can target party members with attacks means that it's a regular game mechanic. it's not like loosing HP increases your max is some big secret in that game.
