Yeah you're right man, if it is classified as a disease it's bullshit. Drinking beer is one of our last rights as americans. Fortunatley for us, the populatioon of the united states is allowed to drink beer. Chez, your father is exercising his right of the ability to do whatever he wants. You do not own him, so you can't tell him to stop drinking.

Oh my goddd. How many times do I have to tell this kid the reason of this thread? Okay, please. Just shush "thinking" you know about what I'm talking about, because you're obviously not going to understand what I'm saying. I told you he broke a promise. I never said I wanted to force him. Jesus. Sometimes I think common sense is beyond people... -_- Even a General Chat moderator stated that you don't know much abut alcoholism or what I'm talking about. Please, either re-read my posts, or just don't comment on my father as an alcoholic case anymore. How many alcoholics do you even know? I'm pretty insulted at your "comments." Also the guy has an 11 year old son. I'm glad you want to see that little boy get verbally and physically abused.
You should respect the thread and actually say something with the slightlest relevence.

...That isn't what I was saying. I was merely saying that it's stupid to consider something a disease when it can be cured simply by stopping what caused it in the first place. That's the difference between alcoholism and cancer.

I know! great minds think alike, right, dude?

I know alcoholics! My uncle is an alcoholic, and my uncle knows how to be funny when he's drunk, your dad just seems angry when he's drunk. If it pisses you off so much, just turn him into the police, because someone who has been drinking for 30 years isn't going to quit, and a promise desn't mean shit. Alchoholics always have a way to get to beer, weather it be means of hiding it, or even drinking it.

Funny. I thought you said all alcoholics were angry, violent people? Your hypocrisy is amazing.

First Off, I just want Jin to know I wasnt disrespecting him at all. I was just pointing something out. No ill will, promise. I know how touchy people get in debates...

Also, as far as alcoholism goes....again. Even if you dont drink, alcoholism is still there. It doesnt stop just because you stop using. I havent touched dope in over 5 years now and I still consider myself an addict. Ask people at AA that haven't had a drop in 30 years, and they will still consider themselves an alcoholic. Its a lifelong thing, whether you actually continue to drink or not....

Let me use a really bad analogy.....

Look at your sex drive. Hormonal urges, sexual desire, what have you. Now imagine yourself not indulging that drive. No sex, no masturbation, nothing. You never touch the damn thing.... Do you lose the urge? No. That drive is still there, and its not going away anytime soon. Just because you dont embrace that urge and do something about it, does not mean it doesnt exist.

Its a lifelong boner you cant do anything about.... Bad analogy I know. My point is, once again, that whether you drink every day, or have been sober 20 years, alcoholics and addicts are just that- Alcoholics and addicts.

I haven't read the comments made cause its just like 3 pages of what now?

Anyway I do agree alcoholism is a problem but its also the person behind the alcohol as I feel it shows what you really feel like. The reason I say this is cause my Dad acted like a real asshole when he was drunk or sober with my mum but when he left her he completely changed. I know my mum was upset of the way he acted but she accepted it but he didn't and left her. After metting his new GF he changed completely, and he still drunk as much as he use to. It seems like such a waste for him to go just like that

RIP

He's got a point, Chez. I mean, involving the police in a matter that they can not be involved in is definitely the way to go. They're not just around to make sure we don't break the law, they're also your own personal behavior police! If someone does something you don't like, you can just have the police fix it!

After all, this is 1984, right?

Seriously, though. Chez. Your father just isn't going to change. My parents are the same way, I genuinely know what you're going through. My parents just went at it a little while ago. Slamming doors, throwing shit, yelling at each other..... Meanwhile, i'm watching a movie with some friends in the next room.

It doesn't change. Advice? Get out on your own. Harder, but it's just the next step forward.

Besides. It's really all just more material for the movie they're going to make about my life.

Hahaha. What was the need to include the anecdote at the beginning? To garner the sympathy of those on an internet forum?

Now, to be more on topic, I will say addicts may make promises with good intentions and really hope their addiction will stop, after all, addiction to something is probably an undesirable state to be in and such addicts would love to give it up; however, they remain unable to do so because of their willpower or more accurately, they aren't responding to the right incentives.

I re-read the first paragraph and it sounds somewhat harsh. But I like it so it's staying in this post.

What? Pompousness? Don't offend my sister. I'll have to put on my metal spiked shoes. And dance on your face.

Anyhoo. What the hell was this about? Oh alcohol.

Different people...different effects. I knew a man who got extremely aggravated by it's usage. And this woman who becomes a right psychotic when she tips the bottle. Holy shit, she lies like a **** too. But she does that with or without alcohol. There's a name for it...pathological? Compulsive? I think these kinds of people should be shot.

Me, ... I'll be happy for a brief period, then I become serious, talk about my life, then I kick the shit out of something. Inanimate objects, mostly.

Oh. And abusive drunks should all just die, thanks.

YEs, threats of violence on an internet forum. That will both make people stop having a discussion with each other as well as set yourself apart as both the biggest badass on the forum, but also the most mature and intelligent one as well.

You have a point here, though. I mean, they're not real people with problems, they're just drunks! They can just die, they don't contribute to society or anything.

Schmucks.

Woah, you're tough, Just because someone is an alcoholic doesn't make them unimportant or without value. I'm sure you are just the most perfect being in the whole universe too. We all make mistakes, and generalizing a group of people you don't even know is rascism.

That last part made me laugh. You're bitching at someone else for generalizing, when you generalized Chez's feelings about her situation? Whatever. I don't know if you think you're being witty or funny, but I assure you you're being neither. In fact, you just sound incredibly silly and stupid.

Chez - have you thought about going into Ala-Teen or it's equivalent? It's a group for people who have grown up with alcoholics. Kind of like a support group and whatnot. I think they'd be better equipped to help you talk about your feelings rather than to open yourself up to the idiots of the internet. As I'm sure you've already witnessed. *cough*

I agree though, it could be time to get out from their house. His distructive behaviour isn't helping you, but until he wants to help himself, he's not going to change. Only he can make that decision too. So I don't know. I know it's hard to get out on your own and whatever, but I think it'd be better for your state of mind. But if it were me (which is an unfair statement, because I have not delt with alcoholics) I wouldn't put my trust in him until he actually shows you that he's stopped, or is changing. Actions speak louder than words, right?

As for the effects of alcoholism, I had an highschool english teacher who taught at a place where the students would come in and their mouths would be black from eating shoe polish. (Has alcohol in it) and where bottles of mouthwash had to be limited to 1 bottle per week per household because of people drinking it. Goes to show how far some people will go to feed their addiction.

I agree fully that it is a disease.
