Thumbs up Porting FFIV

First off, I want to say hi to everyone out there. I'm the new guy lol. Anywho, my friend who doesn't like final fantasy all that much (shame on him), has been arguing with me for some time now about my FFIV advance game. He says that ports are crap and a true hardcore FF fan would never play it. How does everyone else feel about that? I'm kinda curious

It depends on your point of view. Some people are willing to play it on anything as long as they can play it. Others don't like to play it on anything else because it's an insult to the game. I can understand this because I feel the same way about certain anime.

I can understand that....however I only currently have a DS Lite so IV adv is the only way I can play it. I did get it because though I've beaten the original countless times back in the day and never get bored of it, it's nice to experience the game with the new additions

Just about every single FF game has been ported one way or another.

Whether it be a ROM, CD, DVD, etc.

Best example would be like.. FF4 was released on the SNES, then expanded to PSOne, now onto GBA. 3 Generations and its still going strong, I dont know how any hardcore fan *couldnt* appreciate the work that goes into these things I mean honestly, I will admit in saying that I am partial to the original FF4 (as opposed to all the flashy new options in the GBA) because it feels so ... right? lol.

Me thinks this leans more towards a general FF audience and not just FF4 tho.. hmm..

Ports are just fine in my book. When a game is ported, it opens up the chance for new people to try it.

FFIV started out as a groundbreaking game for SNES.
Later ported to PS1, allowing the Playstation owners to try it and fans to rekindle their interest and try out the new additions to it.
Most recently, to the GBA, it allows fans to try even more additions and challenges while also allowing the freedom of portability.

Nothing wrong with porting a game. It allows new audiences to experience the game.

its not that i hate it, but the only reason i would ever play a port is if i cant find the origional, and i have all the classic ff's do thats not gonna happen.
