Clerks treating you badly.

Hell man damn this sucks < I bet that got your attention.

Around my area the clerks treat everyone like suck, my uncle actually filed of compaint to Wal-Mart saying that he was treated unfriendly by one of the clerks there, saying that "have a nice day" does not replace "Thank you" that's BULL! They should treat you with some respect, I went to the bank to put some on in my college fund, and the girl there was like "what do you want" and I was like 'I would like to deposit some on in my fund" and I was signing the paper work and she actually turned around sits on the counter thing I was writing on and FARTS right there on purpose. I stood up and ran to the door and one of the employee there and I turned around and he blew smoke in my face, so I want to the mechanic and as I was paying he saaid, that's be 20 and I was like 20 buys and he said no, 20,000. BULL! SHIT! Just because he fixed the transmission doesn't mean I'm paying 20,000 dollars for it.

It took me a moment to read through that since its written like a squirrel on acid... please add some punctuation, eh? In any case, it really depends on the situation. There are clerks/tellers/waitresses/etc that are assholes because of whatever reason. Maybe they are like that for a living, perhaps they hate their job, perhaps they had a bad day... who knows. Of course, that doesn't justify taking it out on a customer.

On the flip-side, I have seen more tight-ass customers than the latter. There are customers who have nothing better to do than to try to start shit. They come into a business with the sole purpose of trying to get you fired. These are people who walk in with an attitude, bitch and moan about everything and no matter how nice you are to them(and want to choke the shit out of them in your mind), they say you are being rude/obnoxious to them and want to file a complaint. You tell them the total, they'll tell you "Why dont you say PLEASE?!? They do teach you MANNERS don't they???" or they try to argue over how much something should cost when they are in the wrong and say "You should go back to school and learn math." So yeah, if a clerk/teller/waitress is being an ass to you, think about why. Maybe its because you are being an ass to them. They are people too, not robots.

Agreed. Some of us don't understand things that don't make much sense.

Anyway, I've only ever had an issue with a few clerks before. I often go into stores, where I know how things should be done, mainly because I have a friend or relative that works that. I expect a smile and a polite nature, since I make the effort to go in there and not be an ass to them. However, for me, I don't find a smile or polite thank you from a clerk mandatory, since I usually just want to get the hell out of there so I can get home. As blatant as that is, it's the truth.

I've never really had a "fight", or a full out arguement with a clerk from a store or restaurant before. Simply because I feel the clerk would feel embarrassed and belittled if I stood there shouting at them for some bullshit reason, and it's not my place to put anybody down in such a way.

I can totally understand why some clerks can be snippy. Fuck, have you ever worked in a service industry job? It sucks ass having to deal with the general public. Not saying that it's a golden ticket to be ignorant to the customers, but it got so bad that I switched out of the service industry, and I'll be damned if I ever go back to that again.

When you're a waitress, people assume that they can dump all their issues on you. Think I really cared that it was a rough day at the office? Here you are, driving your fancy SUV, Wearing your rolex and planning a nice vacation wheras I've been on my feet lugging around heavy trays of food for 5 bucks an hour. Oh, and I don't get a break until the restaraunt slows down. So that means around 6 hours or more without a chance to even sit and rest your feet/back.

So yeah, while people were moaning and complaining about that, I could have dumped their food onto their laps. Oh! And then when they don't like the food, they freak out on you. Yes! Because it was I who cooked your meal, not the chef in the back. lol

Of course, not all patrons are like that... but there were more of those than actual nice people. I couldn't stand it, so now I work in an industry where I don't have to deal with the general public at all. Huzzah.

Anyways, to make a long, drawn out point... might be good to remember that while you might be poilte when asking someone for something, it does not guarantee that the previous 50 people before you have. Might want to cut them a tad bit of slack. Also, for the record... I think it's incredibly petty that someone would think that saying "Have a nice day" isn't polite enough. Maybe they should tell you to go fuck yourself?

Then you'll have something to complain about!

Or when they bitch at you for not smiling when you really are... just because I don't show my teeth doesn't mean I'm not smiling. Not everyone smiles the same way.. and shit, people smile differently depending on their mood. If you think that the average service person is going to smile at you like your their best friend that they haven't seen in ages then you can hang it up. Or "where is my free smile?" The sign doesn't even say that. It means that pleasing the customer is part of the service, not that the clerk will have a big stupid grin on his or her face.

And yes, I've had people who say things like that... you say "have a nice day" and they think you are being rude to them. If you don't think someone saying that is good enough for you, make your own damn meals, fix your own damn car, and carry your own damn luggage. Have a nice day! XD

I didn't really find it hard to make sense of the first post, just wanted to say that. Ah, I don't really deal with any clerks. Don't really have to in my area, everyodys independant. Haha.

When I worked in food, I had to deal with plenty of angry customers, especially when I waited on tables. I guess people are more sensitive when it comes to the food that they put into their bodies. Now that I work in retail, I do not get a lot of angry customers, mainly because I can drop their furniture or not find the item they are looking for.

I am never mean to people I encounter. I do not get a lot of them either. I go to the same restaurants all the time, and they know that as long as they do what is expected, a.k.a. prompt food, drink refills, etc, I tip real well. The people at Best Buy dont like me, though. I always ask questions and never buy. Never do that at a commission based job.
